Re: Project Never Ends

Are you going to do a hydroboost setup ? It'll show off your hard work better and get that brake booster wires mess down out of sight . Exhaust turned out good ,it looks real clean .

Re: Project Never Ends

Plan is to go hydroboost at some point, I wanted to mock it all up with the stock brakes knowing that was worse case scenerio.

Yes, keeping AC. I figure anybody can build a stripped down race car, I want AC, cruise, etc.

That is just a shiny new bushing in diff.

Truck is back home from exhaust. Plan to do more later, side exit maybe, etc but the main goal was get it so I can start the truck. That is there, well aside from me adding o2 bungs and hangers but I can do that myself. Bending is done for now.

Kindof cool to have 1 piece downpipes and know I did that myself.

Re: Project Never Ends

Made some progress yesterday.

Best story though was as I was welding the sump on the gas tank. I thought I smelled something funny, but kept welding. Pretty soon I can look through the sump and see flames. Hmmm, I stand back and laughed a bit, told the other 4 guys in garage the gas tank was on fire, couple guys headed for door but it wasn't like you would expect as these issues seem to be normal around my shop.

Quick squirt of the fire extinguisher and it was out, I then finished the job. In the end the plastic was burning.

Before anybody says not to weld on gas tanks, this isn't my 1st or even 2nd time doing it, and I had done several things to get the gas fumes out. The main one was a constant stream of fresh air running into the tank before and during welding.

I will get some pictures later today.

Re: Project Never Ends

It was just the plastic that was burnt, and after the 5 big holes I put in it for the sump it really didn't serve a purpose inside anyways.

I meant to get more pics yesterday but just didn't happen. I will get a pic of the tranny though George custom massaged for the project.

Re: Project Never Ends

The more I look at what is left to do on my truck, everything else I have to do in life between now and nats I honestly do not think having a running/driving truck is possible. Ok possible if I quit my job for a week but that isn't an option.

Getting it running yes, driving, well stopping I doubt it unless magic ghosts work on it at nights while I am asleep.

So now, do I trailer a non driving truck to nats? Will cost me at least $200 more to do that.

Bastard. I busted my hump getting that thing done so you'd have it...."last thing it needed"....
At least make it run.

Dont fear I have not GIVEN up yet. The garage isn't closed and locked up.

Busted my ass from 7:30am sat until 12pm. Be there again this weekend.

Re: Project Never Ends

Not much of an update since I am finishing up some other things.

I tried to take a picture of the trans installed, but the quality of the picture was so poor it isn't worth posting.

More to come after the weekend I hope. Hoping I can get it running for nats still.

Re: Project Never Ends

Hmm, this is a strange project.

Re: Project Never Ends

Truck will be at nats, I doubt it will be drivable though but lots of people have wanted to see it anyways. It will be close just too much to do, not enough time.

Been finishing up 80e GP parts lately so progress has slowed.

Hopefully this week I can have a fuel system working in the truck, then finish up some engine wiring, and maybe even the remote oil filter plumbing. Then it will be close to running at least.

Other major things to having a driving truck are rear carrier install, brake system (right now the truck has a master cylinder NOTHING else). Hood and fenders will go on once it runs.

Lots of little stuff pictures don't show left to do.
