4 years later, lots of life changes, keeping busy with JSM stuff I am finally slowly working on my own truck again.

Here is the truck when I bought it in 1998

Here it is after I fixed it, then drove it 40k miles

And here is a shot of some progress from yesterday. Yea, some of you guys are going to hate me, that is OK.

The build details are



  • 350 bored .040
  • Is a left over motor from old project
  • Twin GT35's
  • Twin Tial Wastegates (one sitting on thermostat if you look close)
  • 1 5.8" custom headers
  • George Blake Race 4l80e with some custom parts, transbrake
  • JSM Coilover front, but stainless steel arms
  • Custom 1 off triangulated 4 link rear
  • 13" ZR1 front rotors
  • 85# injectors running on code 59 of course
  • Frame has been blasted, boxed and painted
  • Weldon Fuel Pump -10 feed
  • Sumped tank
  • O yea, I am keeping everything AC, Cruise, 3 amps, sub this is not going to be a stripped down race car.
  • Twin Air Water intercooler with ice box

Nice! :tup: Who cars what the motor is, as long as it's boosted! and your's is x2 :drool:

We hate V8's and everyone that has one.


Afterall, there is no replacement for displacement.

And the benifit is Jeff may even have money after he finishes building a v8.

v6's are cool but Damn are they expensive to build.

Yesterday 1 step forward 3 back. The motor has a long history, one I had built many years ago for something totally different (67 camaro). So needless it isn't setup ideal for boost, but should be ok. My goal is not to set any records, just have fun and enjoy the truck anyways.

Last night Jeremy came over, motor has about 10k miles on it. Figured do a health check, etc. Pulled it all back out, leak down test. UH OH, couple bent valves. Guess SBC's don't like to rev past 7k like I would take the motor before.

Cam bearins looked good, mains not as good so going to put new mains in. Obviously heads need valve job, going to drop them off today.

Gotta go somewhat budget on this project if I ever want to drive it. So good news is nothing too expensive to fix, bad news is more than I was hoping to fix.

So Marty if I did take pics now, you would just see a SBC on engine stand torn down, shit laying everywhere. I do have a couple pics before I pulled motor though.

They hold air, so I am golden.

The thought crossed my mind the other day, if I had bought new tires at start of project, they would have 330 ft on them, but be dry rotted from being so old.

I figure tires are a 1 day thing, and buying them means it runs.

More details:

Cam is basically 224 duration, 114LSA, around .550 lift hydraulic roller

Yes AWD is being maintained, as is the AC, cruise, everything. My goal is not to be the fastest, nor is it to have a stripped down race car either. So I am keeping everything. I figure I will need to stop at the weigh stations though as truck should be over 4k lbs.

Took motor apart last night. It has about 10k miles on it. Found some things that were not good, so they are being fixed. Few bent valves, I guess reving it like I did NA was not a good idea.

In scheme of things all minor, and I was able to change head gaskets and lower compression to more turbo friendly range.

Shortblock should be done by end of weekend, then gotta wait for heads, head gaskets so it can all go back into the frame for the final time.

Seriously, V8's are friggin lame ;)

But on a more serious note, awesome looking project you have goin there, can't wait to see it finished. :tup:
