Project Never Ends

Re: Project Never Ends

Thought I would update things as it has been awhile.

Few things have been added/installed. The main goal right now is to improve the 60ft times.

  • MSD 6AL (thanks Dennis) (Hoping it keeps plugs lite a bit better)
  • MSD 2 step (in order to launch the same way everytime)
  • Rear Sway bar (Susp. Tech I had from before, bolted up well even with the 4 link, hoping this will hold the truck flat on the launch for more traction and better 60ft times)
  • Adjustment of lower 4 link bar (mock-up -vs- actual ride height didn't match, so made a new location for the lower 4 link bar, theory shows it should make a big difference)
  • Boost solenoids are installed, slowly going to up the boost to 10psi over the next few runs.
  • PLX guage for the WB installed.
  • More tuning of Code59, mostly idle but looks like will be adding some more fuel under boost also.
I think I FINALLY found out where the engine is leaking oil last night. Still going to require the engine be removed but knowing where is a big help.

Right now if I can get a solid 10second time slip on 10psi of boost I will be leaving it like that for awhile. Time to just refine it, pull engine out, clean up things, repaint a few body panels and just generally make it nice.

Truck is an absolute blast to drive, just a few bugs left to work out but my to do list is getting shorter and shorter.

Major to do's left are

  • Install roll bar
  • Front sway bar (it is ready to install though)
  • Redo stereo, subwoofer, amps.
  • Repaint a few panels, cladding.
  • Working on a new custom 8.5" 10 bolt rearend.
Just glad it finally runs, 5yrs of jackstand duties was enough. Too bad winter is around the corner and it will be put away for awhile.

Re: Project Never Ends

Probably just a roll bar, shouldn't have called it a "cage".

door bars, hoop, and 2 bars down the back, bar behind seat will be removable also (I know not legal).

Should let me pass tech for 10.00 at most tracks, any faster and cage will need to be certified. Not really ready to do all that, as it still is a street truck I plan to drive whenever I feel the desire.

Re: Project Never Ends

I can relate to ya. There is always something else to do.

I'm still working on getting my mph to read correctly so I can adjust the shift points. I've been only seeing 1 to 2 psi out of my 5lb spring. Not real impressive but I think the 4.3 wouldn't be either with 1psi. More boost needed.

Re: Project Never Ends

Wintertime, salt just dont' see a reason to let 5+ yrs or hard work rust away. Truck is clean underside still, aside from grease/oil. Is probably one the cleanest ty's I know of right now actually.

Trailer to track is just insurance policy. It's best 1/8th mile time was after I DROVE it to the track. So it is still a street truck. When I am at the track I don't like to worry about getting home though so I can push it that much harder if I want. Plus I think my tow rig towing gets better gas mileage than the ty driving at this point. So saves me a few bucks to trailer it.

Sending you email mike, got a project favor.

Re: Project Never Ends

Good news and not so good news.

Suspension tweaks, msd 2 step worked perfect. Truck never spun leaving starting line even at the 4-5psi. 1 run I went through water box but didn't do a burnout and it still hooked. 1.6X 60ft times on every run I think, might be a 1.7 in there.

MSD somehow is messing with ecm and aldl connection, so couldn't get a good log.

Engine, well it needs to go to Dr. now. But looks like a slight change in plans for now and we are going to throw a junkyard vortec motor in and turn up the boost in time for shindig. Rework current motor over winter.

Will know more about insides of motor later this week, it did power it self onto trailer still and will drive itself into garage but I wouldn't go around block if I can avoid it.

All part of the game, time for more boost.
