One of the issues of being considered a production option with Callaways is they blurred the line of being a factory option & Tuner. Initially it was just an engine option. Then some cars were retrofited (and did not have the B2K RPO code) That was basically how it was in 87 & 88. In 89 it became B2K price was still the engine option, but it was also getting you a Callaway option sheet, which was more like tuner, Callaways started geting custom options such as Areobody kits, custom paint jobs, full leather replacement options, brake upgrade, suspension upgrade, exhuast & auto tranies (turbo 400 with gear vendors OD) .

Joe, If you can't go for some reason and Jeff obliges, I'll fill his trailer with my Sy and be there to represent as I sorta think I'd make the cut (HAHA). I'm sorta looking for a covered trailer as well but other duties take pre-eminence.....

Hmmm....my truck is bone stock (original hoses and all!) (K&N added to stock box) It's the "thrashing" thing that worries me. I'll be on the sidelines for sure! Sounds like an awesome event.

There is NO WAY i would thrash on your truck!!!!!! Your truck is a freakin time capsule!! It needs to be in GMHTP but not for this. It needs a whole write-up just about it!

Re: GMHTP Supercar/Truck Shootout

I am more worried about the summer weather. Let's say they pick a day is August. Man, that is some hot weather to put a thrashing on such a rare vehicle. I have the 33,000 mile wht/wht out of philly that is stock in the market place forums. I would love to see what the truck can do and I am sure it will meet the requirements of the magazine, but thrashing in hot weather sounds like a bad mix to me. Does anyone who truely works on these trucks plan to attend? I would feel much safer knowing that some seasoned sy/ty mechanics would be on site. Being that the truck is stock, I am not worried about it breaking. I do plan to have it throughly inspected prior to the event by a member of the board should my truck get picked.

Thanks,

Eric

Re: GMHTP Supercar/Truck Shootout

rick

if your seeing a low turnout of syclone and typhoon applications for the event it is most likely due to the limitations placed on entering.

From what i see on this bbs there are not many OEM STOCK UNALTERED units of syclones and typhoons.

In addition since only @ 2500 syclones and 5000 typhoons (numbers are not exact) adding the limitation of nothing can be entered that was modified beyond an aftermarket air filter and the number of regionally available examples becomes hard to come by.

Now suppose you decide to widen the field and allow more slightly modified or highly modified examples into the event.... then you will open the flood gates.

Serious about performance
Re: GMHTP Supercar/Truck Shootout

Hey Rick, with the stock chip and the only mods being a K&N drop in filter and a fuel pressure regulator and soft heater hose Intercooler lines instead of the stock metal ones, my stock full weight Syclone ran 13.01 @ 103 MPH. That was 3 years ago and I've modified it since, otherwise I'd like to enter it to represent for what a stock Syclone can really do when it's in good tune. Unfortunately the Syclone/Typhoons are EXTREMELY prone to poor performance from aging/neglected ignition, vacuum hoses, misadjusted wastegates and transmissions, etc. I would almost suspect if you find a truly stock Syclone with absolutely no modifications or "performance maintenance", it will be about a full second off of my times due to the reasons outlined above.

I would be very interested in seeing a datamaster file on your truck from when it was running like that and hearing anything you have to say about making that happen.
This is pretty much off topic for this thread so if you want to pm me, start a new thread or post in a more appropriate existing thread, that would be cool.

Thats what im afraid of....Im afraid that theyll end up finding a non-tuned SyTy for the event and it'll run a second slower than it should. Who ever gets picked for this...please tune your truck up and make sure its running 100%!

Re: GMHTP Supercar/Truck Shootout

If picked, I plan on contacting someone to review every aspect of the truck prior to this date to assure a 100% showing. Other than a red top battery, I am 100% original.
