Re: Project Never Ends
RACE REPORT
First time at the 1/4 mile track.
The weather left us wondering if we would actually get to run. Reports of storms coming in, thunderstorms, etc. Being the day was still nice we headed the 2 hours south down to Bowling Green.
Towed the trailer with Dobrick's Yukon just to compare against my older tahoe. His truck gets 11.7 MPG towing, with me or him driving either way. I will say it does tow nice and probably a bit more comfortable than mine, although it is newer.
Arrived at bowling green, unloaded the typhoon and headed to tech. As usual nothing to worry about. Bowling Green has got to be one of my favorite tracks though. Since the last time I was there, they have installed scales so you can weigh your truck.
My typhoon with 1/2 tank of gas (per gauge) and me in it (230lbs) is exactly 4,000 lbs. Yep I knew it would be a heavy pig and it is.
As I was driving back from tech I heard a clicking. I knew the sound and quickly got back knowing for some reason a rocker arm had worked loose. With the help of Dobrick, Tydriver, and John B within a few minutes that was all fixed. On my list before homecoming is to recheck all valves, and install the stud girldes back on to help prevent this in future.
Due the the c5 calipers, I had a wheel spacer on my front left wheel. I just didn't like the stud engagement so we pulled the spacer off. Item #2 before homecoming is all new studs (longer) and new lug nuts all around.
First run up, didn't even hook up the laptop. Tryed to do a burnout and it didn't want to spin so I knew the track was much better than the local 1/8th mile. First run is a 11.609 @ 114.91. (Best time of the night also
)
Heading down track I just felt the truck wasn't like it is normally. At each shift it felt it was laying over. 1/8th mile ET was .4 seconds down from my best 1/8th, and 5mph down. I suspect now it was the weather. But in an effort to try some things I lowered the shift points for the next run 200 rpm.
Similar results, 11.7X (timeslips at home)
So next run, I raisded the shift point 150 over the first run. Again 11.7X
Datalogged a couple runs
(tunerpro logs if you want to see them www.nwstp.com/jsm/ty/bgreen.adl) and showed it knock 2 deg pulling up to the line, with zero knock all the way down track and AFR solid at 11.8. Safe tune.
By this time Jeremy Duncan had arrived to provide moral support, or just cause trouble not sure. We agreed to throw some more timing at it. Previous runs were 20 deg at 7psi. Added 2.5 deg.
Again ran a 11.7X no knock though.
So I add 1. deg more timing and again 11.7X
As I like punishment somewhere in the mix I threw Jeremy in there to make a pass. Keep in mind he has never been in the truck with full boost yet. He drove it a couple months ago and rode in it 5+ yrs before that. Nothing like saying go race it.
He made a pass, went 11.6X (again dont have the slip with me).
I felt good a professional drag racer didn't best my time, and he is a bit lighter. I took the keys away after that to make sure he didn't best my time though.
Last run of the night, my alternator decided it was done. 500 miles on it and already broke. O well easy fix.
The tune Dobrick and I did on it the other night for drivability is working great. Truck starts and idles better than it ever has. So I am really happy with that. I think the lack of intercooler, bad weather just slowed me down.
So time to install the intercooler, and see if we can turn up the boost.
