Re: Shooting for 11's tomorrow!

I would launch it in the 12 to 15 lb range. This is what I did with mine. You already have gained some mph! 25/26 lbs seamed to be the sweet spot with my truck with 26degrees timing. Seemed pretty safe with my truck. Remember mine finally decided to let go at aprox 32to33 lbs! So you've still got quite a bit more left in it!

I couldn't launch my truck at 12-15 psi. Every truck has different variables, stickiness of the tires, stall speed, tightness of the converter, tune of the motor, turbo spool up, air flow of the motor, even the track condition and weather. I try to tune by 'give the engine was what it want not what you think it needs' The same can said for tuning the launch, you have to learn to adjust.

you gained mph from locking the convertor

I think your trucks got at least a 11.8 being its only aprox 400lbs heavier than mine. I would definitely try some harder launches! But what I know?

Are you guys really able to run timing as high as 25 or 26? I haven't tried to run more than around 21.

I ran 24* spraying meth. Didn't get a chance to go up to 25 or 26* but I had 0 KR with 24*. I'd try it any day given I was suing good fuel.

I've ran as high of 30degrees with my truck but I was running vp q16. My truck had a race fuel only diet!

The more important question is, did you beat the Jeep SRT-8 without a boost launch?

Re: Shooting for 11's tomorrow!

Yes, I beat my Dad without a boost launch. He ran 13.4 and I ran 13.0 ( It bogged from too much meth, I turned the Alky knob down a bit) My dad later ran a 13.1 with a little brake torque. Not bad for a stock Jeep SRT with Corsa exhaust.

I'm just running Sumitomos at 30psi. I was hoping to say I ran 11.9 stock heads/cam and then compare next year with Vortecs and Custom cam. Oh well. Still had fun!

I'm thinking Drag Radials on my stock rims, or Caltracs.

You did just fine with your runs. With a few adjustments you probably could get the times you wanted. But I know how hard it is to find the time to spend on making adjustments and then taking the truck to the track. To see if there is any improvement.

Re: Shooting for 11's tomorrow!

Who knows, I might give it one last shot very soon. I'm not giving up just yet. I've spent way to much $ on the Built trans/stall to just run the same time.

Thinking I'll adjust the front limiters some more to keep it down and launch with more boost next time :turbo:

Re: Shooting for 11's tomorrow!

I'd be interested in your 60' time, 1/8th et, and mph. Your trap time is strong so you'll find your answer there.

My sy is nearly stock (STG1 turbo and downpipe) and ran a 12.89 @ 103. That was 14lbs of boost, 17* timing, and some Torco. I used Nitto 315/35 drag radials and actually think it would've done better with radials because you can't heat them up with a burnout.

Stock torque converter??

Re: Shooting for 11's tomorrow!

Not sure if your flash stall is higher than 3200? If your TC is 3200 stall, maybe the flash stall is 3600?

It might be falling out of the engines peak torque possibly?

My peak torque occurred @ approx. 3300 RPM

I still have the original TC.

I have never heated up my tires, don't have the power to heat them up. Or the converter to do so.

Example of my engine dyno. http://s87.photobucket.com/user/itsjustasix/media/IMG_7823.jpg.html

Every engine is different though, so your power bands will be different than mine.

I think those tail lights are slowing you down, you should sell them to me :D

Which Sumitomos? I run HTRZ III's and cut a 1.5 60'. Average 1.6. They really are a decent tire for drag racing but DR's may be a big help to you.

HTR-Z. How much Boost do you launch at? I was launching at 5-6 with 30psi in the tires.

I'm thinking lowering the 2-step to 2800, and adjusting the front end limiters to keep the front down more. And hopefully launch with more boost.

If anyone has any more tips please chime in!!

Where are you shifting into second? I made a comment in your video thread that it looked slow just after the lights, from my inexperienced eye anyways. It jumps good, and then just after you pass the lights the front end seems to drop and from there it seems to work its way out of a hole and start picking up speed. It just reminded me of watching stock crotch rockets racing (my only limited experience), a good jump on the clutch drop but then they fall on their face until the RPM's start building and the power comes in.

I run lower tire pressure in the rear w/regular radial tires, IIRC about 22-24 psi.
