Re: Sy 354 LQ9 Turbo still AWD is running

Found this short clip on youtube of the truck running on the dyno. Im guessing this was the second pull, it shifts 3-4, and you can hear it breaking up some.

I think this was shot with one of those little gopro cameras you can mount to a helmet or side of a car etc...

are you tune right. because you shooed be making a lot more power with that v8 .what are you boosting in pounds . nice ride

Mid 10's in a syclone does scream bad tune IMO .lol

It does need a lot more tuning. These runs were right after I swapped to the edelbrock intake and 92mm throttle body from a 99 z28 ls1 intake and truck throttle body. I know it should need a lot of changes to the tune as big of a change that intake is. It was breaking up up top pretty bad. Im looking forward to getting it tuned in and then going back. This was mostly for fun...

...and it was only half throttle  ;)

And don't forget dynos load different than a street tune. And yes, he is a sandbagger ;)

Another thing I noticed is that I dyno'd it with the exhuast cutout openend up. Out on the street the truck doesnt break up near as much with it closed as it does with it open. Im not sure yet what I need to change, but all the tuning I have done in the past has been through the exhaust so I need to compensate somewhere for the exhaust cutout being opened.

It sounds so good through the cutout I am thinking of making the exhaust permanently open and bringing it out in front of the right rear tire...

Re: Sy 354 LQ9 Turbo still AWD is running

Open dump=more boost
I thought about that too but max boost doesnt change. Its still right around 14lbs both ways. Its interesting it will only make like 10-12 in first gear through the muffler, but it will make the full 14 in first with the cutout open, so it is definitely breathing better.

I also thought it was due to it spooling quicker so it would be in higher boost at a lower rpm, but that doesnt seem to be the case either...

Have any pics straight from the side showing the clearance with that intake? That's one thing I don't like about my LS6 intake is location of the TB. With it up a few inches, it would be much easier for pipe routing.

This pic should help you if you still got a truck intake laying around.

Looks like the very top of the pro-flo is the same hight as the highest point of the truck intake

Re: Sy 354 LQ9 Turbo still AWD is running

Hey i have a question which hopefully can be answered simply.
I'm starting to get things ready for a LSx swap and i wanted to use the XFI too. So how bad was it to connect the stock harness, to your LS harness, to the XFI? Or does it really work that way? I'm sure you could make a whole thread on that, but anything quick/somewhat simple you could advise me on? Thanks man and I love your truck.

Do what I did and run FAST's ls engine harness. I had to connect only a few wires from the factory harness to their harness, and used nothing of a stock ls harness. Made one of the hardest parts of an engine swap into one of the easiest.

That sounds AWESOME!! So, if i purchase the XFI/EFI kit from FAST (the crate/transplant engine kit) there shouldn't be anything else i have to buy from them? As far as having the same (tuning) set up that you have?

Great build! Did you get the truck retuned yet?

I have been working on the tune some, it looks pretty good on the logs i've taken out on the street. (I do all the tuning myself). I hope to go to the local 1/4 mile tomorrow night if it doesnt rain on me to see if its working any better

Thats pretty much what I got. You need all the sensors etc (I have a regular 3bar gm map sensor and just cut and changed the plug on the FAST harness). The transplant kit will have the can bus harnesses, the xim module for the coils, etc so you should be set. Its not cheap but their system is amazing and they just keep adding more functions.

I just ordered and received a couple days ago their boost control solenoid that the XFI can control based on speed and tps readings. Im really looking forward to getting that on there and set up. The new xfi has traction control, boost control, 4 stages of nitrous control, etc etc etc. I wont get the boost control on in time for the track tomorrow night but i want to see what the intake/tb and tuning have done before making any more changes.

I have my fans & both stages of the fuel pump controlled through the ecu as well. It has a bunch of auxilary analog outputs you can wire in yourself and set up based off coolant temp, speed, throttle position, map sensor reading, etc. You will spend weeks reading their documentation (which is very very useful it explains every single setting in the system). It is a lot to learn but its fun.

..to add to your point on ECM choice, dont overlook the new Holley EFI Dominator setup. As far as LS ( and other engines) goes, it has a beautiful GUI, TONS of configurable inputs/outputs, and just flat out rocks.

Looking forward to hearing your results tomorrow! I hope the heat we have here today doesnt get to you by tomorrow night!!

Yea Holley has come a long way with their stuff over the last year or so as far as engine management. What is the price on their setup.

There are so many out now that say they will tune themselves, that would be interesting to see how well they work. The setup i have on my turbo Harley does some self learning and so far it seems to be pretty accurate. It continues to get just a little bit better running every time i ride it.

I am just hoping we dont have the thunderstorms tomorrow night...
