Well, it has been over 2 years since the 4.3 lifted the head gaskets (for the last time) and i parked it and started this swap. Well on 3/6/09 I fired the new engine! This was particularly rewarding since this was the first engine that i put together completely unsupervised from picking the bare block up at the machine shop to turning the key. Thanks to my Dad for welding up my radiator, a "slightly" modified griffin, my upper charge pipe and upper radiator hose connector. Im still learing on the TIG so he was a huge help with those parts. Otherwise, its all me and im damn proud of it!
A quick rundown of this build
6.0 LQ9 block .030 over
stock crank
eagle rods
weisco pistons
comp cam (trying to find my cam card) lifters, springs etc
317 casting heads, "cleaned up" with oversize intake valves
ls1 intake
my own "custom" made exhaust manifold system
new FAST XFI/XIM management system
left overs from the 4.3 include
4l80e trans with 3500 Hughes converter with lockup
3 inch downpipe and exhaust
Turbonetics T76 Q trim ball bearing turbo
Now enough talk, what everyone wants to see is pics. The entire album can be seen at http://s105.photobucket.com/albums/m240/500charger/Syclone%20V8%20Swap/
But here are some highlights

My truck needs it too much! That crappy z28 ls1 intake and little throttlebody have to go! Im going to try and make 4" charge pipes fit but I may have to go with 3.5" due to hood clearance up front.trade you a weiand / lingenfelter for that?
Ill have to do that when im ready for some heads. There was a test in one of the last Hot Rod magazines where they tested 11 different sets of heads against stock ls1 heads and they all made close to 100 more hp on a N/A 408.My friend is a distributer for Edelbrock.

If you want that intake & other latest stuff from Edelbrock.
Especially LS type cyl heads, CNC ported heads.
Ask for Rich or Dave

I knew when i put this motor together that i had 150-200 more hp available in a better set of heads and intake/tb. I cant wait to get this on there, but i have to since 1) we just picked up a ty last night and 2) my CTS-V dropped a valve Friday coming home from work and is hurt pretty bad![]()
So i guess the TY you went to look at was good enough to buy? You were telling me about it at hooters. Post some pictures.Ill have to do that when im ready for some heads. Nice, what changes in tune and hp/tq are you expecting?
Great build. "I can't get the power its making now to the ground, so logically the next step is to make more power. " - made me lol
How is the hood clearance with the new intake?
