I should have checked this earlier. For those of you that still have catalytic convertors, there is an easy way to check if its gone bad. Aside from hitting it with a hammer...

Run the truck up to temp, use an IR thermometer and check the inlet and outlet of the cat. If the outlet isn't about a 100 degrees hotter than the inlet, it's bad.
In my case the inlet was 100 degrees hotter than the outlet.
And for us Californian's, Magnaflow makes a 50 state legal replacement.

All four of the SyTy's at the house are muffler-less, straight pipe all the way.

Two of them run cats, two do not, so John yes people run without cats but you don't want to on a stock truck as almost all over boost. All depends on what you want, if you have a relatively stock truck keep the cat it's one less thing to correct for and isn't going to keep you from making power.

i ran no cat on a stock truck- with an atr waste gate &ported turbo hole
solves all over boost issues

I have a 20g ported. ..forge wastegate....aem truboost. ..with stock dp....I don't think I'll have any problems...I'll just set Wastegate duty cycle low and drive it till I get it back up...I'll keep you posted...I'm gutting the cat on Tuesday. ..

sorry wrong quote . this is to the question about the stock set up

with a stock chip you will run into issues . a tune is needed to make up for the better flowing leaner running engine . buy turbo tweak or a old atr chip to replace your stcok chip to keep everything safe with a free flowing exhaust .
