The complex bend turned out pretty good.

Needs some finishing work & then I'll paint it or have it powdercoated.

It's a tight fit, but goes in & comes out without any difficulty.

Looks real good. Are you going to use flex tubing? What will hold the filter in place? I don't care what anyone says, that filter flows way better than the cones.

Thanks. I'm pretty satisfied with how it turned out. It's not perfectly straight in some areas & I didn't plan some things out very well. I'm thinking I might make another one and use the things I learned from this one to make the next one better.

The velocity stack in the box will connect to a straight coupling then there is a straight aluminum intermediate pipe. The pass. side PCV valve will connect to this. Then there will be a 90 elbow that attaches to the aluminum pipe & turbo inlet.

I'll probably make a retaining ring/frame that will fit over the filter. I'll use some pem nuts on the box & screws will secure the ring/frame to the box via the pem nuts.

Very nice ! How is it just pulling air from in the fender or are you going to vent it to the outside some how??

If you look under the truck there is already an opening that allows air to enter into the fender. Or I might add the TransAm vent like others have molded into the fender.

Nothing looks better IMO. Im glad I had that done to my truck.

bringing one back from the dead Rick how is the coating holding up on the manifolds and turbo? If its holding up where did you have it done at

It's been holding up well since the manifolds & turbo have been sitting in the back of the Ty since I had them coated.
Yeah, truck hasn't run since I tore it down. :(
I have lost my motivation to work on either truck.
Sorry I couldn't be more help.

I believe I have gathered enough stuff now to begin assembling the motor (putting heads on shortblock & installing whatnot's), getting it installed & maybe even starting it up Labor Day weekend.

Re: Goodbye old & rusted...The Ty gets updated.

Started on the motor yesterday & ran into what could have been a huge problem.
Too save some money I bought SBC 4 bolt mains. The outer bolts have a slight angle to them but nothing like the Milidon caps.

Well I couldn't get the pan seated. It was about 2" away from the block up front.
Thinking I had just made the biggest mistake ever I kept looking at how I could turn this around & move forward.

I have a RPM aluminum pan so I tried to fit it. It fit, but is setup for a bowtie block (no kickout for the dipstick in the block plus no dipstick hole in pan). So this pan would sit flat on the block, but it looked like it would leak oil around the dipstick provision in the block.

Next I decided to see where the caps were hitting on the pan. What I found was that it was hanging up on the oil return fitting inside the pan. I could see that there was lots of unused threads in the fitting so I had looks of material to grind off.
After grinding a little more than half off the pan fits. Yay!

Now my only issue is the dipstick. With the cap being so wide I had to cut the tube down. Now I don't want all the extra dipstick flapping in the breeze while the motor is spinning so what I decided on was that I'll buy another dipstick & trim the dipstick down so it more or less becomes a cap to prevent oil from spewing out of the tube. Then when I need to check the oil I'll just grab the dipstick out of the truck & check it.

Here you can see how close the cap bolt is.

Next is to clearance the pan for the rod bolts.

Good catch , that would have sucked if you didn't see the problem before dropping the block in . Also i believe flapping your dipstick in the breeze results in a hefty fine out there in Ca . Everywhere except San Fran :)

Mine isn't long enough to result in a fine...

It's been so long since I last worked on these things I forgot what a bitch it is. I'm going slow though so I won't miss anything.
It took me most of the day just to get the timing cover, pan & rear main seal installed along with painting the block.

Today is heads & valvetrain. And maybe I'll have enough time left over to get the motor installed.

Re: Goodbye old & rusted...The Ty gets updated.

Here's where I'm at after yesterday.
Installed March AC pulley cover, chrome receiver/drier bracket.
Removed PS/alt. bracket, radiator fan, intake manifold, rocker arms, pushrods & lifters. My intake gaskets looked to be OK, but I was surprised by the amount of oil betwen the gasket & the intake manifold. Maybe they were leaking around the lifter valley.
Cleaned up dirty inner fenders.
My To Do List:
Lifters, pushrods & rockers are going to be replaced along with some new valve guide seals.
Upper & lower intakes, & both front engine brackets are going out to be powdercoated.
Install Typhoon logo plate on upper intake.
Install some more chromed goodies.
Replace motor mounts.
Install Griffin radiator & SPAL fans.
Relocate map, coil & EGR solenoid.
Install new control arm bushings, ball joints, pitman arm, torsion bar mounts, then new tires.

I hope to get the motor mounts done today. It looks like the motor has been out before due to the pass. motor mount heat shield is installed wrong. Someone put the mount against the block first then put the shield on. looks like it's gonna be a bitch to get off.

where the hell did you get all those pulley covers? i cant find shit to fit mine
