Re: El Caphoon coming soon...

sweet man i'm doing the same swap! mine is going into a monte ss, oh and there was a GMC el camino, think it was called a cabliaro? or somthing like that, hard to find. and the 4.3 is jsut a 350 missing two pistons, it even uses the same mounts, i dont know if they are repositioned on the frame at all. look at some later monte carlos, they came stock with a 4.3, we pulled one out of my friends 87 ls and put a 327 in it,

Re: El Caphoon coming soon...

I bought this ty engine in October of 2001. The ten year anniversary of this project is October this year. Of course the engine was going into 3 other vehicles before this el camino, but damn, where did the time go! i did join the board before, but I forgot my password/screen name and rejoined in Oct 2001 after the purchase. Beer consumption and the IRS was probably a factor. My goal is to have this project running by the ten year anniversary. I want to thank the board members that have helped me get to this point. Scince I like to do things different, I just bought a 1941 9n ford tractor that could use a "boost" in horsepower for helping me mow my 5 acres of grass!.. Someone does make an adaptor to bolt a v-6 chevy to the tranny!!! yee-haw!!

Almost there, intercooler and piping locations being finalized. Have to make adjustments for the right inner fender clearance. URL=http://s894.photobucket.com/albums/ac143/Dam-Electrician/?action=view&current=2012-01-08_10-27-11_849.jpg]

Re: El Caphoon coming soon...

Got it running last week, took it off Jack stands sunday and took it for a test run, from a small 2 psi launch, hazed the tires, first and second then overboost showed up. Realized that stock boost control configured for a stock turbo wont control the 14.6 psi wastegate actuator on the 20g... plumbed the wastegate feed directly to the turbo, then i Repaired the missing ground for the mat sensor, made another street pass... wow.. this older country road i live on won't hold it. I didn't know if the free flowing exhaust was the overboost problem, so by passing the stock control would limit the output to what the wastegate was loaded for. I'll be taking the truck to Phenix Motorsports park to make a few Datamaster passes down the 1/8th mile. I have to insulate the a2a pipe that passes over the turbo area because aluminum pipe absorbs heat pretty quick. I have the turbo, down pipe and manifold insulated pretty good, but the inlet pipe still gets warm. Once i get the truck running great on the stock 30lb. injectors, I'm going to get mike to burn me a chip for 36lb. injectors. I'll post the times on here when i make the passes, just remember i have about a 500lb advantage in the weight department, but a lack of all wheel drive in the traction department, but these g bodies can be made to work very easy on the track. Again, thanks to those that have posted all the information on this board that helped me make this happen, along with the rest of the people that helpedme with the parts.

Re: El Caphoon coming soon...

Yes, It is the spectre series intake components, I think I used 2 90's, 1 6" straight, 1 4" straight and of course the red filter. I think i got about $80 in it. That plastic chrome is easy to work with. i relocated the battery to the bed and opened up the radiator core in that area to let cool air in from the grill. The blue goodyear hose will be going away in favor of red silicone heater hoses soon. If I didn't have a cowl hood, that big 140 amp alternator wouldn't clear the hood frame. The hydroboost return had to be separated from the steering box return due to the brakes started to apply when running. The brake lights started to come on by themselves and i thought there was a short somewhere. Spent about two beers and an hour trying to figure that one out. This conversion was definately fun, but the next project is going to be a flathead ford v-8 in a 9n tractor and then a simple 496 bbc in a 72 monte carlo body, you know, eight plug wires, a couple vacuum lines, 1 fuel line.... maybe just points and condenser..

Re: El Caphoon coming soon...

Grave digging I know, but this was an inspiration for my build. I have followed SyTys since back in 91 when they first came out. I remember reading the article about the Ferrari losing in the 1/4 mile. Always wanted one, could never afford it. Have had my Elky for 20 years this month, and found a deal on a Ty engine with all the trimmings. So here I go!!

Following Bsted with the grave digging but its great to see two other guys with the same vision! I'm still running N/A but these next few months i'll be piecing together a lot of the parts I have.
