Re: El Caphoon coming soon...

OK, now we are gettin close, it's been a few years and jobs scince I started this last revision to project el caphoon... I've finally bout got the engine build done and the el camino body is going through it's transformation now. I think i need to post the stuff in the conversion section. Have a few pics of the engine build and the body/powertrain transformation. I think the biggest reason to this lapse is the lack of funds/jobs and i couldn't remember my password/username... don't laugh, you guy's hopefully will get old soon too...

Re: El Caphoon coming soon...

I don't know how I missed this thread over the years! I contemplated doing a GN or Sy/ty swap for a loooong time to my 85 elky ss. I decided to keep it simple and traditional with a 383 stroker and nitrous. My Elky was my first car and my first love. I spent 10 years making it into what it is today... Check out the pictures in the link under my avatar :tup:

I'm really liking those LED tails, they almost look factory. I also thought about the monte ss, or camaro fascia but went with a tucked and molded fiberglass front roll pan.

It's ok, I'll be bustin me some v-8's out before the years out... were gonna start @ the local 1/8th mile track to do the tunin and then go to the silver dollar raceway and bust some in the 1/4... rite now the 207k mile 229 v-6 is havin a problem with vapor lock and the 100 degree heat... thank god for air conditioned shops...

Re: El Caphoon coming soon...

Shouldn't have bought that harley, but now that the weather sucks, back to work!

If you put the sy/ty engine in the stock V-6 4.3/3.8 bowtie location in a "g" body, you have good clearance for the Downpipe, but the Manifolds touch the front crossmember on both sides.

I'm going to mod the frame for fitment, but you could also move the engine forward 1 to 2 inches, but your driveshaft will have to be lengthened and downpipe re-bent or modded, but then you could use the stock IC setup. I'm going to use an Air to air, so the issue with the ic hitting the a/c evap housing is gone. More pics coming this weekend...

Re: El Caphoon coming soon...

Here is a couple pics of the Downpipe mods;

Fist, cut off about a foot of the cat end of the downpipe:

then weld a 2 1/2" flex connector to the downpipe, a 2 1/2" stainless lap band clamp, a 2 1/2" offset to a connector then weld that to the "g" body cat connector. :

Now to get it blasted and coated....

Re: El Caphoon coming soon...

As far as electrical system goes, I am using a 91 sy engine/ecm harness and a modified/92 s10 blazer dash fuesbox harness to replace the g-body harness ( dash removal recommended) . The fuel system is using an elco 4.3 efi fuel tank and a 92 s blazer sending unit to fit the tank properly, a walboro 255 pump and the upgraded GN fuel pump harness from racetronix (when they were doing just gn stuff). I'll have to Install fuel pump lines from front to rear. As far as modding the s-blazer harness goes, there were wires that had to be moved around and a few circuits added and you need diagrams for both the sy and blazer to make sure it matches up. A weatherpack connector kit is also suggested for making up the connections to keep it "factory" looking..
