El Caphoon coming soon...

Hi guys... I know, I could transplant a Gn engine in a 80 El camino so simply... but, I would rather put this last ty engine I have in a El camino... it belongs there... Exhaust may be a minor head ache, but if Vortecfiero can stuff one of these things in a mid engine poncho... why the heck not. The car/truck has factory 4-link so making it hook up shouldn't be a problem like the 2wd s series PU was... I might even see about grafting the gmc/ty grill on it... I think it could be done using 2 stock grills... what the hell, it's only money and a lot of time... pics will be coming soon... and if anyone else has attempted this, let me know, so i don't do something stupid (again)

I saw the title and just had to click this! Sounds like a good idea to me  . If you need any El Camino information, Join over at Elcaminocentral.com if you haven't already found it. I'm 86Conquista over there.

Re: El Caphoon coming soon...

I recently sold an 83 that had the chevy 3.8 in it. Looked identical to a 4.3. Physically, the motor should drop right in, if you've got the right mounts. Being what it is should give you more transmission choices, 2wd and all. Have fun with your boost plumbing! You might even have to customize the hood to clear the turbo, but I don't know.

All I can say is try it and enjoy the challenges that come your way, because it's what makes hot rodding more of an art than anything.

Re: El Caphoon coming soon...

I like it. Saw an article a while back (GMHTP?) where a guy 'Grand National'd' a Elco, complete with Buick front end and a grill badge that said 'Quick' in place of 'Buick'. Too cool.

A Sycloned Elco would be cool(er), but I agree that some grafting of Syclone styling cues is mandatory (wheels, grille....cladding would be way over the top..... Hmmmmm...... no, perfect! In the words of the immortal Polish Racing Drivers of America... "anything worth doing, is worth doing to excess!")

Re: El Caphoon coming soon...

Ray Moore did this to his el-camino

However he did it with a GNX Motor, tranny and rear suspension

also did wheels, fenders and hood

Me too. Except mine had a rear seat (ie Chevelle).

I would love to have a syty powered 80's Elky with a Monte Carlo SS front end.

Re: El Caphoon coming soon...

Like I said, Putting a GN engine in an elky would be too simple, putting the Ty engine, 2wd 700R tranny and making it hook up, now that is a challenge. Might as well, got the parts and pieces laying in boxes all over the shop... eagle rods, speed pro pistons, pte injectors, walboro fuel pump, msd, John law turbo, conley cam, chip, ty shifter, dash cluster, sy block, intake, manifolds, intercooler, pumps, wires, distributor, downpipe, harness, computer, crane rockers, lifters and a crap load of other sy/ty recomended components that would boost the brick down the quartermile in the 12's. Maybe high 11's due to the weight difference. all's i need is some traction-action! (Very old school track term)

Yup, mine was a '82 with the 263ci. It was a fun car and would love to have one again once I'm done building the Sy :D

Re: El Caphoon coming soon...

oh and it seems to be a popular question so here it is ..when fuel injecting an elcamino get a fuel injected fuel tank for an 87 elcamino with a tbi 4.3 its the only baffled tank for them .. I got mine new thru autozone.

If running an intake pump you'll need to find a sending unit for one which im not sure if you can get new

I modded mine with 2 intank walbro 340's with duel 3/8 lines coming out the tank which is same as I do on some of the Buicks I build

Re: El Caphoon coming soon...

i don't see why this would be too hard of a swap since some of the elky's came with 4.3s should just be a drop and go

Re: El Caphoon coming soon...

Well if it doesn't, wait a year or two. I already have the engine built and ready for the g-body that I haven't bought yet for a swap.

I will not try the awd and will run it through a 200r4, after I buy a roller of course.
