Re: Project Never Ends

Yes, I agree if your going with coilpacks, and/or want sequential also the stock ECM is not the best choice there.

Honestly I think all the ecm's have an advantage, some based on what user knows, budgets, etc. No 1 size fits all solution for anybody.

Re: Project Never Ends

Did a quick drive around the block last night that has stirred up and maybe found my biggest tuning problem. Seems everytime it shifts it goes lean. I know what is going on now, just gotta find the solution.

leanshift.jpg

Blue line=RPM
Purple = AFR

I did do a small boost launch to try out the line lock. 3.5 psi launch, 47%tps at launch, pushed to 56% shortly after. 0-35 mph in 1.1 seconds. I just estimated if I was to have stayed in it, would be around 2.5 seconds to 60. This is at about half throttle and max of 5.5lbs boost. I stopped at 35 as that is where it shifts to 2nd and I get the lean spike problem. Once it get it resolved I should be able to really see the 0-60 instead of guessing.

TPS.....MPH........RPM........MAP
39..........0...........3275.........115.36......0
47..........0...........3325.........123.97.......1
56..........7...........3250.........132.58.......2
59.........11..........3250.........136.27.......3
60........14...........3550.........137.5.........4
56........18...........3600.........137.5.........5
56........21...........3750.........137.5.........6
56........23...........3825.........138.73.......7
56........27...........4050..........137.5........8
55........29...........4025..........137.5........9
54........32...........4075..........137.5........1.0
55........35...........4325..........137.5........1.1 seconds

Re: Project Never Ends

Found the problem thanks to UR50SLO as I knew it would be something stupid and simple. When you use the stock ecm for an 8 cylinder you must change the fuel cutoff also. I knew that, just overlooked it.

So I take it for a test drive. Pull out onto the first street I can get on the gas, no cutout. WAHOO.

Pull up to a stop light in industrial park. Nobody around, screw it lets see what it does. Push brakes, activate the 4 wheel line lock, 2psi boost launch.....%$@$@%%@#%$@

The truck decides the left lane is better and that the 4 tires needs to spin faster than the ground below them is moving. I let off to catch my breathe and smelled tire smoke for the next half mile.

Wow...

So next on list is see what an 1/8mile will do on the Tazzo I borrowed from Jeremy. Keep in mind his best 60ft was a 1.78 on the tazzo yet is a 1.58 at track. (due to better traction etc.)

2psi launch again, 40ft of rubber left on the road, let off before the end as my nut sack is rather small I have found out. 6.90 @ 106.6 1.72 60ft.

Will get video soon, might even go get kicked out of the track friday night just for fun.

This is still with max boost at 5psi.

Where can I order a bigger nut sack at?

Have Jeremy throw it in his trailer and bring it with him to Indy this weekend. I want a ride. Hell, maybe you can enter it in super street. As long as you can cut a .500 pro tree and run consistant 10.90, your golden.

Until they notice the lack of cage.

Jeremy already has his 3 car trailer filled up though. He keeps telling me he stepped up the racing program, parked the 69 camaro and is now driving 2 2000ish firebirds. One in stock and one in super stock. Has some guy transporting the cars now for him, he just flys in to race. I personally think he must have been under the bosses desk one to many times.

Drove it to work today also. Not bad considering Sunday night I also went to the grocery store with it. Cruises down the freeway fairly well. Now that I have the big issue solved I can work on drivability a bit more and making it idle a bit smoother.

If weather holds out plan to take to track friday and see if I can get kicked out.

I am curious Daron, why do you have that picture or even found it. Does the wife know about your late night internet searches?

AWSOME!!!!!!!!! :) :) :)

We were all talking on "sy/ty Gabby" and the thought of AFR going to 20 about the same RPM hit me along with the extra 2 pluses being given off the dist. than normal... I thought I was being stupid for thinking that but I remember a jeep coming in several years ago that someone had put together.
This Jeep had a 4.3L in it... Missing problems and lack of power but it ran.... Several plugs looked bad.. (carberated) Kept trying different timing settings and nothing was changing. Finally pulled the distributer cap/rotor and found it to be a V8 distributer! Oh $hit... how'd this thing even come close to running? It'd been together for 2yrs that way. So got a re-man 4.3L dist.. and she ran great.
Also remember when I switched from 6cyl to 8cyl back in the day (ashamed) and my tach read 1000rpm higher. Between those two things It had me wondering how that was effecting things.
Anyhow... glad it was a simple key stroke to correct and it's runn'n good now!
"Gabby",Skyway cell phones and internet save the day Lol.
Enjoy it for awhile ...!!!!!

When you get all wrapped up and want some company for the weekend lemme know.
I need to pick your brain for a day or 2 and get some of my issues worked out!
I mean the truck's issues... mine are hopeless. lol

Congrats on the grin!
Its gotta feel good.

Re: Project Never Ends

Might be a fall rental, not sure yet of BG. Be some trips there for sure though to race.

Next month is going to be busy, but after that I should be free.
