Who has Alkycontrol? (Enter)

I’m fairly happy with the Razor Alkycontrol system. I do have one problem and I think it would be best to call Alkycontrol about it first. Before I do that I want your input.

The alky system seems to lose pressure between runs and I have to purge the kit with the test button before a run so pressure is there and the system can react. I notice if I do not what I call "purge" the alky and bring it up to pressure before a run it takes to long to reach full pressure and I get midrange KR.

I may have a leaky nozzle or maybe the efans and the intercooler pump are pulling down to much current for the alky pump. Not really sure.

I want to know what other alky control users think about this.

I have the Alkycontrol, no problems like that. If the truck sits for a long time(days) it needs a little manual activation to get the alky to the nozzle, but not in between runs.

I would call Julio. Something is screwy.:screwy:

no alkycontrol and no Syclone but.... SMC and a buick:p I always push the "test" button before a WOT pass to "purge" the system and make sure there is pump pressure. Only takes a second and I like to feel the motor stumble before I unleash 24 psi on it:D I don't like the thought of going WOT without knowing a) pumps working and b) it has pressure. If you're worried it's best to call Julio/Razor:2cents:

Datamaster says mid 12s. I know on some really cool nights its faster than that. I can just feel it. Im also running 20 -24 psi. Plan on going to a 1/4 some time this year on the weekend. The only thing is I will be running a 25g turbo with a FMIC at that point. Not really much for stock anymore.

Hey Rookie, why change out the intercooler since you're running alky? Hasn't the stock ic been low 11's. Your charge temp probably can't get much cooler:2cents: My cars intake is literally cool to the touch after a run. Plus, it would "look" stock under the hood:D

My personal experience I think the stock intercooler sucks. Intake temps were always on the warm side. I had a Johnson intercooler pump hotwired with a lower intercooler scoop. I flushed the system and added coolant. It was a pain to get the air pockets out. The upper intercooler sits right over the hottest part of the engine. There is no cooling of the stock intercooler spooling on the line, unless you have a fan on the lower intercooler. With a front mount you have a radiator fans pulling some air through the intercooler. The intercooler pump is just another item for mechanical failure and drawing of current to the electrical system. After a run the intercooler fluid was boiling inside. I messed around with the stock intercooler enough and thats why I went with a front mount. I think there may be some weight savings switching to a front mount also. You dont have that heavy lower intercooler and all that extra weight in fluid. Not to mention a FMIC with 3" pipe will flow better than the bottle neck stock one. I race in some hot lap events and the recovery rate of the stock intercooler sucks also. It’s really prone to heat soak.
Most people will stick up for the stock intercooler. I can’t say I was happy with it. I think running 24 psi on the stock turbo also had something to do with it. Here is a lot of heat being generated there. I can say that Alky Injection was way more effective at cooling than the stock intercooler. Why not couple that with more cooling and more flow? Im just going off my own personal experience. You are right about the stock intercooler being in 11's. Heck its been in the 10's. I think the stock intercooler is good for one run and a good cool down after that. Run a 1/4 WOT back to back with the stock intercooler and you might change your mind about it after you see your intake temps on the second run. With a FMIC your intake temps may be the same as the stock intercooler but the FMIC will be more consistent in intake temps because of the better recovery rate. This also makes your tuning a lot easier with consistent intake temps. I also love the way the FMIC looks under the grill. :boink:

My Ty has gone 11.5s (by the previous owner) with the stock intercooler and alky control kit, not sure what the limit is, air to air i am sure is much better

I really dont think there is per say a limit. For example, someone runs 10's on a 2.5" exhaust. But a slower truck in the 13's runs three tenths faster in the 1/4 mile by switching to a 3" exhaust. The point is every bit helps. I just choose not to break into the engine to make more power. At least not yet. I think the stock motor has more in it with some refinement.

you're probably right about recovery rate and hot lapping the stock ic,,,, not good. Now you have to worry about that 700. It doen't like hot lapping either(or so I've read). The front mount does look nice and clean up the engine compartment. Which one did you go with?

I have a external tranny cooler ready to go for the 700R4. I just have a CXR racing intercooler.

Re: Who has Alkycontrol? (Enter)

Where are you going to mount this? I assume the space behind your grill is all taken up.

With no AC and the condenser removed there is plenty of space on the front of the radiator. I did not want the intercooler touching the radiator and transfering heat to it. I have the intercooler moved as far forward as I could without it rubbing on the grill. There is like 2" between the intercooler and the radiator. You can also mount a tranny cooler on the roof of the truck if you want. Its going to cool no matter where you put it because of the extra surface area to disapate heat. Same principal as a heater core. Its just another place to rid heat if needed.

Im going to put this out there like the mad scientist that I am. What about using the AC condenser as a tranny cooler. That thing is huge and would be excelent for cooling if your AC is removed. What do you guys think?

You'd probably get too much pressure drop across it if you tried to flow tranny fluid through it. The condenser wasn't really designed for it. IIRC it goes to the cooler after the TC, then back into the tranny. So if you had a lot of pressure drop between the two, you run the risk of burning up clutches.

BTW where is your meth pump mounted in relation to the tank?
