question on egr!

Yes you will have cel issues, after about 25min of driving my truck I feel it burp and than the light comes on. I have not had the egr deactivated on my chip yet, and it stays on for about another 25min or 30 or so miles, but still gets stored in the computer.Only seems to hurt power when it's on, but intake air temps are way lower without it working(150-160deg to 98-105deg under normal driving.
 
No, you will not have any overheating due to the fact the EGR was deleted. I EGR valve is there to cool down the combustion camber. It does this to reduce Nox, which is produced by excessively high combustion temps. It will have no effect on the overheating of the engine that would be noticable. Fern Sy#477

Well it was not the grammer I was quoting but the fact that it looks like you said the EGR was there to cool down the intake?

The service manuals and official sources always claim that EGR reduces combustion chamber temperatures. Whether or not that's true, I don't know; but I do know that EGR is purely an emissions device and that on our trucks the tradeoff is not worth it because our intake manifolds get far too hot. I'd much rather have an 80*F intake manifold than a 140*F intake manifold, so my EGR got removed.

The reason I was asking. The way I've always learned is that by removing the egr the volumetric efficiency of each cylinder is improved greatly. The egr pumps the nox gas back into the cylinder which takes up volume creating a smaller combustion and cooling the combustion chamber. Therefore when removed you get full combustion in each cylinder and combuston chamber temps go way up, but intake temps go way down I was just wondering if the intake temps will even out the cc temps. So if this is true which temp would you rather have hot because if the cc's are getting to hot that will cause lotsa friction especially in Phoenix weather.
or am I just PARANOID? Also if I decide to take it off where can i get a blockoff plate or do I got to make one?

I would never suggest such a thing in this forum :roll: EGR is there to cool the combustion chamber not the intake.

The way you described the EGR operation is right. Cooler intake air contains more oxygen molecules per given area. So, that means you can mix more fuel in the mixture because there is more oxygen. More heat in the CC is power, as long as it is controlled(ie. detonation)

The way they always taught it in school was alway confussing to me though. They always said that more heat in the CC resulted in pushing the piston down harder and quicker=more power output, right. Then why are there so many efforts to take the heat out of the CC??? We do it with Water Injection, aluminum head(tranfer heat better), and so on. My guess is that this is all done to reduce detonation so more boost can be added. Even though were takin away heat we more than make up for it by adding boost. I think the point is being missed that EGR is an emissions device (not a performance device) and only operates under specific cruising conditions. When you get on the gas the EGR does not operate so whether or not you can make more power with EGR cooling the combustion chamber is a non-issue.

Yes because with it enabled its like a little heater attached to your intake manifold.. Heating it up the entire time you cruise so when you DO hit the gas, the manifold is already scorching hot. If you disable it, the manifold stays cool for when you are ready to hit it.

You can get the EGR block off plate from GM believe it or not! It's cheap as hell, like $7. Get a new EGR gasket too. I think all the part numbers are on www.sytyauthority.net. The dealership had to order the part by me since they dont stock it normally.

A warning, you need a chip compatible with EGR removal. The ATR Pitbull and the stock chips will occasionally throw Check Engine codes when cruising and when that happens your boost will be limited to base boost as well as the annoying check engine light. Ultimate chip on any setting above T1-15 will work perfectly happy with EGR removal.

you can get a plate from gm,or weld up the hole in the one on your truck(like I did) so the truck will pass visual inspection. The jdm cars have no egr and most have cleaner emissions than most car here. Why? More octane, they use 98-100 octane in there cars. Most things done here rob power and really make the cars have worse emissions. It's all poliltical.
