Re: Good Ty mechanic in Colorado

Thanks Mike and Amilliano for all your help and observations today.

Once I get this thing street legal (think it will pass emissions as is), I'll be driving to you more for working on it.

One thing at a time :)

Already replaced the mountain dew with a real overflow btw.

Thanks so much.

Let me know about those pillar guages

Mike, I fixed the speedo... combination of waking the top of the cluster, and shoving the blue wire in at the DRAC.

Now on to find the IC to Throtte body sleeve and a new turbo to ic tube (found a good one at rpm)

Let me know about a fan solution. Amilliano had me thinking going back to a stock engine fan might work best (need to find a stock shroud to clean things up too.

Me too, although I was in Wisconsin.

Sounds like they got you off to a good start though!

Re: Good Ty mechanic in Colorado

Just wanted to give an update. I've remedied a few of the bigger issues. New turbo to ic tube installed, new ic to intake coupler installed, new coolant overflow (replacing a crushed can of mountain dew :) )installed, and finally the most involved, a complete redo of the e-fan (had a really ghetto hack job with a pair of fans dangling off of the radiator with zip ties and a gaudy yellow wire routed to a manual switch under the dash) I ended up with a dodge stratus shroud setup based on Mike's recommendation (thanks Mike), that I re-wired with a flex-a-lite fan controller, and a bit of aluminum for a top shroud... very proud of the results.
Just got the title in the mail yesterday, so I took it in for registration and emissions. It passed on the second attempt and I'm now legally registered.
Now I'm working one thing at a time. My next steps are to get a new rear main seal, and probably get a new converter installed at the same time... getting a higher stall because we found I'll probably need a new turbo soon (shaft play on the stocker and I'll probably go for a 20g)
I have a speedometer issue I need to fix as well...
need to replace the door lock actuator in the drivers side too, and already replaced the window motor in the passenger side...

see what you guys mean when you say these can be money pits :)

:worthless:

Dude, if you would have seen those electric fans, you would be on the floor. At first I felt kind of bad for Chris buying the truck but when he told me how cheap he got it and looked around to find that the truck really needs minor work, I think he did OK. Who ever he got the truck from did some ****ed up shit to it and clearly had little clue of what they were doing.

LOL, that's funny, just in general not laughing at you Chris.

Well, glad he had you around Mike

Re: Good Ty mechanic in Colorado

Yeah, I had to laugh too believe me. I mean I've seen some hack jobs on cars and am guilty of them myself, but the mountain dew overflow and the way those efans were in there was pretty over the top.

I'll see what I can do to get some pics hosted somewhere... I just always am to busy working to take good pics along the way :)

Mike, I swapped out the drag radials, so they are all yours when next I see you. (one had a nail in it btw)

Re: Good Ty mechanic in Colorado

This is starting to not be funny. I'm still trying to figure out the speedometer issue, already ordered all the code59 equipment and a new turbo, got it back from the tranny shop and they mentioned there are multiple oil leaks besides the rear main they replaced, that the front end needs rebuilt as its been put back together potentially unsafe, they see all sorts of wiring issues and now I think the heater core might be leaking coolant into the cab.

I'm seriously looking at unloading this thing and taking a loss before I dump any more money into it. My stupid fault for buying something like this. I can handling having to fix a thing or two but this is getting to be too much. I wanted a car I could drive not just keep working on and fixing previous owners stupid hacks everywhere. I already have a project car.

Sorry for the rant.

Re: Good Ty mechanic in Colorado

Thanks A,

I just really need to tackle one thing at a time and not let myself get discouraged. I might have you out soon to tackle one or two of these things.

Re: Good Ty mechanic in Colorado

Thats the hardest thing, one at a time, unfortunately these things can be maintenance hogs. Some people (myself included) spend lots-o-time chasing problems.

Re: Good Ty mechanic in Colorado

Exactly. Just fix one problem at a time. Don't worry about oil leaks, just keep your eye on the level.
