X-cab Sy

Stab it and steer it
Re: X-cab Sy

The blower setup is 6-7 psi that with the direct shaft ( no internal belt/gears) and ceramic bearings, it runs very cool so no intercooler is needed.

I'm no engineer but (I think) how the impeller is driven has little to do with it. What will matter is how much the air is compressed. At those pressures prolly not much but it will be warmer. You can do the math but I'm not that smart...:rotf: Just my :2cents:.

Like I said previously, this is a great project and with the correct tune my bet is it should work really well.

i dont remember reading anything about meth in his thread, but wouldn't that lower the temps alot? even at 6/8psi its gonna generate some heat during dd driving.

and super awesome build.

Buttoned up some things on the truck. Gave her a bath, and took her on a drive. Still tinkering with the BOV. Need to get on the freeway & do some WOT pulls. Working on an intercooler. Don't know if I will go AtoA or Water. Trying to find an air or water heat exchangers that fit between the frame rails. Barks the tires through the gears :D

Re: X-cab Sy

Been a while, but got some progress done. Finished the intercooler setup. It's not very big, but it is 4" deep. Made a scoop to help capture the air. Wrapped the tubes to cut down on heat transfer. Got the supercharger back from repair. Bad bearings, I guess. Still waiting on cladding from the painter. Had almost 100 deg days in July, and some of the cladding warpped. It was installed with some looseness in the upper puck area, and it was warping from the body. As I was trying to re-fit one piece, it cracked. Maybe drivable by next weekend.

Then the old Alpine went out. No switched power for amps, or antenna. Faulted it to the power board, so I'll keep an eye out for a cheap functional unit & change out the board. Went ahead and put in a new front amp along with a new Alpine with HD radio. Don't see paying for satellite when I drive it so infrequently.

Re: X-cab Sy

Updates would be that I just finished redoing most of the cladding. The @$$hat that finished it last year did a poor job on the mounting. Parts were warping away from the body and coming loose. Had to heat and reshape, and fix the mounting points. Sent them back to paint. The overall finish isn't as nice as it was right from paint lasty year, but no more loose and warped cladding. Maybe get rid of the poly tranny mount this weekend to see if the motor vibration lessens. Replaced pretty much all the lights on the truck with LEDs. Dash, cab lights, etc. Already did the front turns and rear brake lights, so just the backups are the only incadescents. Got a connection to do the cnc on the intake. Just waiting. ;) And just as it's drivable, the weather turns crappy. So when the threat of thunderstorms diminishes, I'm gonna get some miles under her.

Oh, healing. Still have a limp and pain. New Dr and getting some results. He wants to yank the hardware out which I want gone also, but not during the summer with car shows and fun, So we're gonna wait til October. Then he's going to dig around inside to see if he can fix restricted movement and pain issues, hopefully. Maybe imobile for 3-5 weeks.
One day at a time.

Re: X-cab Sy

Just a thought - what would be involved in swapping the intake round? You have a long loop but if you flipped it, it would be neater.

It's a minor thing and a lot of work so probably a silly idea. I was just wondering why you did it that way. Is the intake handed?

I really love this truck.

Hey Mark,
If you look at the photo, you will see a bunch of stuff, including vacuum and coil, that would have to be relocated. Thought of extending all to the right side of intake, but that puts it into the throttle/cruise cables of the TB. Yes, it would look cleaner.

Are you talking about if you moved the whole charge pipe to the drivers side you would run into issues? I think mark is saying what if you just turned the piece that bolts to the throttlebody 180* the other direction so it faces the passenger side like a syty normally would and then the charge pipe wouldn't have to make the trip over the distributor and what not.

Still a killer truck regardless though!! Definately one of my favorites!

Re: X-cab Sy

I already tried. Would have to relocate this stuff. It does all sit on one bracket, and I did think of going to pull-and-save, snagging one and see if it could be modified.

Re: X-cab Sy

While I was recovering from ankle surgery last fall, I asked the board for what would cause shuddering when I put my foot into it. One of the main responses was lack of fuel. So I had the TBI shaft rebushed, made a adjustable and vacuum referenced fuel pressure regulator that sits on the TBI stock location. I'll set the idle pressure at 13 lbs and the vacuum is suppose to take it to max of 18 lbs Tried to bend the stock fuel line to compensate for the pressure gauge and kinked it. Off to Pull-N-Save and found a replacement. Fixed by cutting out a bit of the hard line and putting in flex. Took Quickstops advice and built a bracket for the MAP and EGR so I could flip the bonnet to the passenger side. Welded a bung for wideband and heat wrapped both headers. Put in a 180lph fuel pump. Grabbed a great 4WD rear axle from pull-n-save to lose the 2"adapter/spacers, and installed Renz's bracket/cable LS1 kit. Painted some of the interior that started with the 3 pod pillar for wideband gauge. Need to figure out the brackets for the bigger intercooler, wire in the wideband, finish wiring the headlight relay. Hoping to start driving her again in a couple of weeks, if I don't blow her up first.

Re: X-cab Sy

Looking good Chip!

I hope it wasn't too much work flipping the intake round - not sure I offered advice as much as asked a loaded question ;)

I'd love to see it in real life.

Keep up the good work!

Re: X-cab Sy

More trial and error on the bracket and positioning of the devises. The EGR is right next to the valve cover to TBI hose, so I might have to clean the little filter often. I also set up the bonnet with a right or left position , being able to swap the sensor plate with the BOV, having the same mount. Just had to build the sensor mount.
