X-cab Sy

Combating adversyty.
Re: X-cab Sy

I love the look of a Syclone but at 6'4", it's too uncomfortable. This would be the perfect solution.. Almost!

Re the intake, I think you should get something custom made for it. XGT would be good with the X in the style of Syclone/Typhoon lettering and the GT as smaller normal text.

Having "supercharged" is eighties/redundant seeing as it is on top of a supercharger :D

:2cents:

Whatever you do, it's a work of art and pretty inspiring.

Great job!

Chip, your truck is looking really nice. How you thought about making a mold for the cladding parts or is this just a one time deal for you?

I talked to the painter who has done some customizing/fabricating. He said it is difficult to mold a piece as long as the rocker and keep it straight and true. It could also destroy the original. And with the amount of work I put into it, keep it more rare.
Guess I lucked out when I got all the rough rocker pieces and a cracked door cladding for about $800 for both sides. Then my time to build.
Its not to say that if I were to get my hands on one of the extended cab Sy powered AWD trucks, I might consider building another. Or yank the cladding off my truck:D

I think with a better seat (lowered and thinner) you shouldn't have a problem, you and me are about the same size. i'm still looking for a solution though, but should be possible..
Smaller steering wheel would also help..

Damn GIANTS.

Somehow I missed this thread. Anyway, take care of the ankle. I destroyed mine back in '79. Numerous surgeries over the years finally resulted in almost no pain and limited motion. (If you saw me walking you might not even know. Maybe a slight limp now and then.) Follow orders and have patience.

I really like the supercharger conversion. I've thought of that many times. Please keep us updated on that. Gorgeous truck.

Now it's off to the welder, then find a CNC shop. Maybe have it say '4.3 HIGH OUTPUT' above, and 'SUPERCHARGED' below that. Or something like that.

AWESOME project ! If I had unlimited funds, I would make an extended cab syclone. Be that as it may, I *know* someone who works in a machine shop and does custom work ;). LMK if you are interested...

A friend is currently working on a CNC program to do this, but I will keep you in mind if this falls thru.;)

I don't mind the fact that I'm being paid to be @ home. I'ts the not being able to drive yet, and the fear of permanent damage/problems. I'm already hiring for help, such as yard work and things the wife can't do, or needs assistance with that I can't do. My father-n-law who's a retired EMT has said that it's a pretty severe break. It may be months before I can get back to most normal things. I don't get much info from my Dr. or Therapist, but it might be too early to tell. My calf muscle is still a hanging jello mass. The ankle joint is still swollen, so movement is stiff & restricted, which makes normal walking painful, even with the 'boot' on. Have to keep the foot elevated & iced as much as I can. :squint:

Re: X-cab Sy

Been waiting on the C&C guy to contact me. In the mean time I worked on an intake heat shield & a frame bracket for torque strap. Then I'll start running the IAT & pressure gauge wires to the pillar. Getting the light stuff done now & waiting to get released to do the heavier things.

Re: X-cab Sy

So tell me more about your engine.. It appears to be a blow-through setup using Throttle Body Injection? If so what are you using for engine management? Are you increasing fuel pressure with boost? Did you have to do anything to seal up the throttle body unit so that boost would not leak out?

Very cool. I've always liked TBI and I think it usually gets a bad rap. Properly setup I bet it could work very well in a boosted application..

The truck & motor have 60k on the clock. Has run strong with edelbrock exhaust headers and solid crossover, free flow pipes, cold air intake & underpully set up. So This was a good candidate for a bolt on kit. The blower setup is 6-7 psi that with the direct shaft ( no internal belt/gears) and ceramic bearings, it runs very cool so no intercooler is needed. The TBI will give enough fuel being it can work on a 350. The TBI seems to be still tight, but if it does get blowthru, I'll send it off for new bushings. The stock chip is replaced with one designed for the blower and mods I've done. Any more mods and a different chip woulod be needed. I've done the TBI spacer, ceramic coated headers and crossover, electric fan, trans shift kit and cooler, MSD distributor and hot coil, 180 deg stat, Poly trans mount and torque strap that will keep things in place, hopefully. I didn't /can't now change the motor mounts for poly's. Heard of the melting issue and haven't seen the heat shields come out yet. I'm going to raise the rear 1" to give it a slight rake. With Chest Rockwell's help we got a pair of almost perfect Bravada leather seats, got to swap them out, Speedhut gauges with the needles painted to match the stock cluster. Going to paint the pod to match interior.

Hopefully, fuel won't reach $6 a gallon this summer, and I can get out & enjoy it soon.

Re: X-cab Sy

Looks great. Have you considered some mandrel bent stainless piping for the intake/outlet pipes?

I was thinking aluminium or stainless single piece in and out. Out would be a bit easier. The in w/ its 2 - 90 deg bends and tight fit has infinite adjustability now. It is a tight fit. Guess I could remove in one piece to reproduce. It would clean it up w/ alot less hose clamps going in different directions:roll:. I've shot the out w/ ceramic paint, thinking it would keep engine heat soak to a minimum. Don't know if it'll help, or the black will attract heat.

I think the 350 TBI units had bigger injectors.. Also, I know for a fact the 454 units have larger bores and injectors and will bolt right up. Might be something to consider if you run out of fuel with that unit..

Re: X-cab Sy

Did some painting today. Decided that all these bezels I kept collecting had some scratches or wear marks, so I'd try the dash paint. Says it is GM 83-94 'gray fern' dash paint. It may be a little too green, but its close.
