Vortec head install..

Hey, my new motor build up is ALMOST in progress. I really didnt want to use vortec heads because of the fact that id have to use some stupid spacer/adapter things to make them work. But, upon sleeping on the idea for a while, I was thinking maybe i should just do it and get it over with. Motor configuration is:
TRW pistons
Eagle rods
dequick afpr
Walbro 255
atr cold air kit
ultimate
I want to keep the stock IC setup cause im cheap : )
It will be getting one of them hybrid turbos in the near future after it is running.
Other than that it is stock.

What do you guys think?
How hard is the vortec head install? Obviously it aint a bolt on, but how difficult is it. Is there any other not extremely expensive heads out there that I can use. I know L35's bolt on, but if im going to do heads i wanna make it worthwile.
Let me know some opinions

hey Brad;
The Vortecs are a nice addition, but lotsa work. The heads must be drilled/tapped for the existing SyTy manifold bolt pattern and the old threads filled. You could have your lower intake welded up and then machined to match the Vortecs thus eliminating the plates. Cost is like $400. Then the porting to match could be done yourself.

Is it really worth it....can you get fairly good results with L-35 heads. I saw some welded up manifolds...looked awful, but probably worked well. If you use a dfi and can it the tuning dialed in, can L-35 be as effective...or close??

I know alot of ppl are interested, whats the real deal??

ok i decided i am NOT doing vortec's. I am not messing up my already nice lower intake maifold and wasting more money to try bolting on some stupid heads that arent "supposed" to be on there. How about some nice aftermarket ones that will actually bolt on? There has to be some out there. ideas?

The Vortecs aren't stupid heads. I don't recall the flow rates, but its sorta pointless to compare anyways since different flow benches flow different numbers and ...gasp... people have been known to inflate (sometimes rather grossly) the capabilities of the heads they are peddling. Unless you have them flowed you'll never know for sure. I would give the nod to the Vortecs for flow. But depending on your build it may be a non-issue.

What the Vortecs definitely have over the L35s is their heart-shaped combustion chamber that markedly reduces the tendency to detonate. Not an insignificant feature considering our vehicles.
