Glad state farm treated you ok on this deal as they were one of the worst to deal with when I was in the body shop business years ago..

I agree..My family had a body shop for years and from the body shop side State Farm is the hardest to deal with but as for the person making the claim they are actually one of the easiest to deal with. My wife works for Enterprise Rent A Car and they never have any problems with them either. I guess they just take it out on the shops.lol

speaking of the Klinger's, anyone have an email, phone # an/or knows the whereabouts of Aaron?

I have a cell # for Aaron. He gets a lot of pocket calls as he is the first number on my phone :) I don't know if the number still works or not. If you look in some of the old Nats posts it is in there.

It just makes me sick that such a nice truck was destroyed. If you can't afford an alarm,at least pull the friggin ECM-B fuse when you leave it sitting outside.

That really sucks. And about shops and all those places stealing cars........ When my brother got his 1980 Cutlass he built a motor for it and decided to get a stereo in it. He went to a local store which was small at the time. They got him to buy all of the best stuff, and even gave him a free installation. They gave him half off on a Clifford alarm. A week later it was tolen and was found on a country road on cinder blocks. Funny thing was, he had a circuit breaker mounted on the inside of his fender. Completely out of view. It was gone. But the whole power wire was still there. They got down and unhooked it when not a single person would have known it was there without pulling out the whole wiring sysytem. The alarm never went off. This wasn't a sloppy job either, power tools obviously involved. My point, watch out who you have install your alarm and stereo. Any shop for that matter. Sucks the Ty is a salvage now.

Re: TYPHOON #0147 STOLEN! (Found again 2 years later)

I can't believe I'm back on this board with yet another chapter in the life of Typhoon #0147.

2 years after she's stolen from me, I get a call from a friend who lives in Monticello, Indiana near Indiana Beach. He swears that he spotted my old Ty. So I drive there, and sure enough, there it is. All in one piece.....just as it was taken from me almost 2 full years later. Same tires. Same wheels. Nothing was taken apart. Only the front and rear shrouds were repainted and a new set of shocks were on it. The truck currently has a regular Jimmy-style steering column where the thieves broke the original to get it started.

I will be contacting my insurance agent tomorrow to see if they have any interest in the truck.

The guy who currently has it says that he bought it from a State Auction up in South Bend, Indiana. The VIN was removed and a new one was in it's place and this guy claims that he has a title issued by the State of Indiana. I didn't ask any more questions, I just felt sick that I was actually standing in front of the truck again. I did, however, feel much better about the fact that it wasn't trashed out like I had originally expected.

Jimmy and Aaron, if you guys see this post, you must understand that when this all happened to me all I could go on was who knew of this truck. I had no other leads. I hope that you guys can somehow accept my apology 2 years after the fact for some of the things that I implied and said in this thread. I am man enough to stand up in front of my shortcomings and admit that what I said was wrong and I hope you can accept that.

Jimmy, I see that you found out that the truck was recovered in 2003. I may need to use this information with my insurance company if they wish to recover what they paid for.

I will, however, like to hang the person (s) responsible, even 2 years after it's all been over.

Thanks for understanding, Jimmy.

I have contacted my insurance company and they gave me the rest of the details. The truck was recovered sometime after my claim was settled. I'm not sure when, but it was recovered in 2003 before the end of the year. The VIN was removed and then retagged by State Farm once they got it back. They sold it to a salvage yard up in Gary, Indiana who then put it up for sale at the State Auction in South Bend, Indiana. This is where the current owner purchased it.

So it's all legal with the world.....except for the fact that I still don't know who took it from me. That will be the real "end" to al of this if I find out someday.......

Something wierd that the State Farm rep discussed with me was that she said that whoever took it from me cut a hole in the rear bed area above the gas tank and they think that it was for smuggling drugs.

Nah.... the fuel pump probably died on them and that was a quick fix. I'm really suprised it still looked the way it did when it was taken though. And another thing I don't understand is how can State Farm re-vin a vehicle to make it legal? And if they did, what is the vin from?

Yeah, the fuel pump was my guess too.

The VIN that was retagged starts with "MVIN" and then some numbers and from what the State Farm rep said, that's what they do if they recover a stolen vehicle that already has been "bought" via a settlement with the owner.
