Alarms arent pointless... if a thieft wants a car they can get it, but an alarm may deturr (sp?) them, or stop them. my alarm is a 2-way pager setup, so if it goes off my remote starts freaking out. they are basically to keep a small time thief from grabbing your car, not a pro, as most pros can get past an alarm and have the car in about a minute.

i was thinking of doing some sort of distributor cut-off, or simply pulling the coil wire whenever i park somewhere for a while. they may get past the alarm, but that beotch aint starting with no coil wire. id be cool to make a coil wire that looked like a real one but had no wire inside the insulation, so the thief couldnt find WTF it was no matter what.
The simplest way to make your truck not run is to pull the ECM B fuse and put it in your pocket. It will never start without it.
You could also reach up underneath the rear bumper and disconnect the fuel pump harness.

about the GPS, i have alot of those for our car lot, they work great, but they do have their flaws, i was going to put one in the ty, but i dont want my dad to know too much such as speed and location. Any ways look into aircept.com, its what i have 250dolla for the unit and 3dolla a month.

alarms are crap........

pull ecm b fuse or get the ultimate, like Patrick said, have yet to hear of one stolen with it installed and used properly. Unless the criminal has a very good understanding of the chip and or syty computer ways, he ain't leaving with your truck. might do some damage on his way out over frustration, but at least the truck is still there.

another thing, i just recently had my sy broken into due to stereo equipment I had installed. they got everything, it was a really nice system. I love my music, but there is no way I am installing anything but upgraded speakers and maybe a ty cd player back in. Don't give people even a small reason to break in. I used to leave things in my vehicles, my digital camcorder or camera after working at a friends house, my wallet if i forgot I took it out of my pocket. well not any more. this was the first time i have ever had anything stolen, it really brings it home that most people are untrustworthy.............period.

do what you must, but I will stick with the ultimate in SEC mode, the only way someone is getting my truck is if it's on a flatbed.

Truckless Wonder
Who was just telling me about there truck getting stolen locally here with a Clifford G4 and a fuel cut?

Sad...

Trailered it off I guess.

I guess you need one of everything these days.

fuse cut, alarm, gps, steering wheel removed, club.

I think I might just pay some bum to sit in my truck all day.
Probably cheaper too.
Except for the putrid stench probably.
Call it "Employment" if you will...

Hmmm.................

I would bet at least 25% of stolen vehicles are towed away. They steal corvettes by using a battery drill to
drill thru the fender/battery, wait untill the acid drains and then hook it up and drag them away.
There is no reason you couldn't do it to a Sy/Ty or any vehicle where you know where the battery is. You
should always have your alarm hooked up to its own power source so at least its making noise when they are
trying to tow it. If your vehicle is ever stolen look on the ground for anifreeze or go-jack wheel marks then you will know how it left the area. Every little bit helps.

I kinda let this thread go a few weeks ago by accident.....

To make a long story short, I've never received ANY information as to the whereabouts of what used to be Typhoon #0147. I'm sure it's in a billion pieces by now and part of many other trucks somewhere in this crazy world we live in.

I've received my insurance claim and moved on. Bought the wife a half of a new SUV with the cash and am now driving what used to be her daily driver.

Thanks for the interest.

Man that sucks. Was the insurance claim enough to compensate for the loss of the truck?

You got that right, man.....IT SUCKS BIG DONKEY BALLS! My dealings with State Farm on the claim were all but painless. I was VERY surprised to tell you the truth. I figured on a knockout-dragout battle to the 12th round with them over how much it was worth, and it didn't end up that way at all.

Here's the key IMO. I gave them the following info:

1. A comletely filled out claim form (on which there was only 1 spot for my actual claim amount figure)

2. Many color photographs of the truck

3. Printouts from Kelly Blue Book and NADA sites showing the average and high retail values

4. Several trucks for sale showing their asking prices and miles on odometer

My claim agent called me one time and tried to bicker with me on the claim. She said she came up with $10,450 on NADA.com (of which it is possible) through the passenger car route. All I told her was "you try to buy one for that and then we'll talk." She never called back but to tell me my check was in the mail for $15K.

Before you all start asking what I paid for it and everything, I won't discuss that information here. Aaron K. knows though. :D This claim covered my expenses for the truck including purchase price, mods, wheels/tires, and sales tax at purchase. So I got all my money back and a few hundred bucks consolation.

I'll tell you what, it's really easy to steal someone's shit but it's really hard dealing with all the aftermath. Whoever did this to me can eat shit and die for all I'm concerned. And if I ever find out who did it they better hide good cause the dogs will be a comin' for them!

your troubles prompted me to pull my ecm fuse when I was locking up for the night. I am more in the rougher part of town then I would like and hearing and seeing a fireturd drive by the house and pause several time, plus your nightmare prompted me to pull the fuse and grab the radio face.

Any plans to join Syty ownership again? Dont want to loose a good guy because of some thief.

This was Klingers old truck?
No,it was mine.I sold it to a guy named Aaron Kaufmann, who sold it to Tom.
FWIW Aaron gave me 13800 for it,and sold it to Tom for <13k,so I think the 15k was a GREAT settlement.

I have been watching for parts from this Ty to surface. There are a couple of unique things I know to look for,and hopefully can help bust the person who chops it up.I'm hoping it's found in one piece.

Yeah, Jeremy pulls his ECM fuses too! (just thought I would speak in 3rd person like the Rock) My insurance Co. has kick ass rates but won't fully insure the SY. I hope you don't find whomever stole your TY because you wouldn't be anygood in prison. If you do however, give 'em hell! :evilbat:

Yeah, the 15K was a good result on the claim. I cannot complain about that one bit. I paid Aaron $11,500 for it and with sales tax and registration costs plus the few mods I made like wheels/tires, k & n filter, and a replaced ignition tumbler, I didn't really make any money on the deal, I just got it all back. I have to take into consideration also the stuff I lost inside the vehicle. So the net effect was that I didn't lose any of my own personal money on having the truck for 4 months. I made a couple hundred bones is all.

Somehow, my old credit card that was inside my wallet was used at a local restaurant about two weeks after the Ty got stolen. The account was cancelled the morning of the truck being stolen. So, after the card didn't go through approved, the damn restaurant did it manually anyhow and charged $156+ to our account. Never did find anything else out about that event OR the truck's whereabouts. Assbags :fist:

Glad state farm treated you ok on this deal as they were one of the worst to deal with when I was in the body shop business years ago..

That being said if you ever get hold of the slime that swiped the truck be sure to SLOWLY cut off one of their ears with a dull steak knife while telling them "this is from myclone...he hates thieves too".
