I can understand being very angry about your Ty being stolen, but what you are implying upsets me. Still, I really hope you get your Ty back in one piece.

I wasn't implying anything Aaron. I just thought you'd see this as interesting since you were the previous owner of the truck.

By the way, what does "resting quietly in a field" mean in your signature?

Is it just me or has there been a lot of ty thefts lately. As much as i want one, I'm swayed the other way having to worry about every thief laying their eyes on it. Hope they find your truck in one piece. Did you have any alarm system on it?

Jimmy.....calm down man....I am not pointing fingers at anybody. I have just developed this senario in my mind of why somebody would steal this vehicle, that's all.

This is what I'm most upset about in this whole ordeal. I am upset that this vehicle is a collector item and is rare, so parts are scarce and very expensive and the fact that now somebody out there has it for the wrong reason that you and I have owned it. I am a lover of the automobile and love owning the ones that nobody else would even consider. Somebody took it for the WRONG REASONS :x and that makes me furious.

I would be shocked if I found out it was you behind this theft, Jimmy. But at the same time, I haven't discounted ANYBODY in this thing yet.

Well before you get all set on blaming the BB for your theft let me ask you this.. Do you take your vehicle to get worked on regularly at a local shop? or have you ever had an alarm install at a special shop... what i'm trying to get at is that yes someone knew where you lived and chances are they had seen the vehicle up close before.. I'm guessing whomever stole it from your house did so because they knew it would be there after a certain time.. but even so anyone who's ever worked on the vehicle while in your possesion probably had some mailing or home residence info on you and had seen the vehicle inside and out...

Most likely, I had a neighbor who had his caddy worked on by a body shop. A few nights later after he got it back, it was parked in his driveway and it was stolen, almost like they had a key.....

awww man, sorry to hear it..... Even more so coz its soo close to home. I really feel for you. I know I will always have a toy of some sort. I think if it were me I would have to just walk away from it and start over with something else.

Sorry to hear about it, I will keep my eyes peeled for you.

Let me just say this. I am not blaming this board or anyone else for my misfortune. I cannot point fingers at anybody because I have absolutely no leads on who took it, only opinions.

I know that this is the correct answer to all this. I only owned the truck for 4 months, and all the work I did on it was on my own at my house. I had the wheels mounted on tires separate from the truck, so the shop didn't even see the truck. Somebody cased me out and just wanted it more than I did. No alarm on the vehicle, that's my own fault.

Access to the keys (to make duplicates) and also access to the alarm system or any other hinderances that could slow them down.. Isn't it sad to think that sometimes you can't trust the people you pay... I'm not saying that's what happened here, but it isn't all that hard for a shop employee to steal a vehicle once it leaves the shop if they really want to...

I know you're upset and in similar circumstances I would be too. The trucks gone and the chances of seeing it again are getting lower by the day... All I was trying to say was that if your truck was left in the possesion of someone else w/ your keys it isn't that hard for them to make duplicates w/out you knowing about it.. I've been ripped off before by people I knew, but luckily it was only a stereo, some cologne, a hat/sweater, and cd's... and all of that I got back the next morning when I showed up at their doorsteps...

If insurance wants to cut a check make sure you take in all your documentation for mods/upgrades and don't settle for low value.. I know this doesn't help now ,but I also suggest next time you install either an ultimate, lowjack, and some type of alarm system.. I hope you get your truck back one way or another and if not hopefully you're able to find another that you can enjoy..

My Sincerest Regards on your loss,

J

Picking fights on I-65 since 2013
i know this doesn't help any..

but, when working on my truck, i noticed one hell of an alarm install, as soon as the battery was connected the alarm went wild.. and it still does..

it wouldn't let me start the truck, and i wasn't given the remote to control the alarm..

yet i still managed to get the truck started and running.. i had access to everything i would without the alarm installed..

alarms do jackshit.. they do nothing but make alot of noise and cost alot of money..

if you don't want you truck stolen you have to do something major to disable it.. hell I wish a cut off switch was all it took these days..

eitherway, im extremely sorry to hear about your truck.. hopefully insurance will cover it or the truck will be found unharmed..

:(

Nope!

Nope!

I haven't heard a damn thing about where the truck ended up or anything. It's almost like I never even owned it the heist was so clean......

Now, my claim is going to be handled as a total loss and I get to fight with my insurance company on it's value.

Me and the wife are looking for a replacement vehicle now. I'll be driving her Regal GS and she's getting an SUV, just haven't decided which one yet.

If and when I hear anything, it will be posted here first.

Thanks for the concern, Jimmy!

Average retail is 15k plus according to NADA Collector Car guide
High retail is 22k,which is what you should shoot for.The Ty only had 52,000 miles on it until January of 2000.

Don't let them try to give you loan value, which is around 11500.You had a pristine, low mileage exotic car stolen, and should be compensated accordingly.Don't take their first offer, even if it's 15k.

Hope it all works out for you Tom.

I got a LoJack, but have repeated heard it is practically worthless nowadays because someone will take your car at 2am, strip it by 5am, then dump the hull in a parking lot somewhere. Since there is no notification that your car is gone, it's too little, too late.

I am looking into something like this:

http://www.gpsonsale.com/vehicletra...Vehicle-Locator/VehicleLocator-Individual.htm

$399 one time for equipment (less than HALF the price of a Lojack)

Features:
Get Location
Geofence (if car moves out of specific location, you are called/paged <-- this is what I want)
Starter disable / enable
3 second extra output (unlock doors, honk horn, flash lights, etc)
Alarm input #1 (gnd for 12 seconds)
Alarm input #2 (gnd for 12 seconds)
25 packets per month for $9.75
There is a one time $25.00 airtime activation fee.
The first months airtime and activation fee are charged when a unit is activated.
One year contract, afterwards month to month

I am seriously considering one of these, now that pricing has come down so much. I know I will sleep much better at night.

Gonna need them to add a SyTy icon. then you can stage a theft just to see it pop up on the screen :p

Alarms arent pointless... if a thieft wants a car they can get it, but an alarm may deturr (sp?) them, or stop them. my alarm is a 2-way pager setup, so if it goes off my remote starts freaking out. they are basically to keep a small time thief from grabbing your car, not a pro, as most pros can get past an alarm and have the car in about a minute.

i was thinking of doing some sort of distributor cut-off, or simply pulling the coil wire whenever i park somewhere for a while. they may get past the alarm, but that bitch aint starting with no coil wire. id be cool to make a coil wire that looked like a real one but had no wire inside the insulation, so the thief couldnt find WTF it was no matter what.
