Mike, how'd you end up bracing the turbo? Oh, almost forgot. It sure is purdy.

This is the best I could do on the whole dipstick thing. Its kind of hard to tell how it is routed. Ill be honest, the dipstick is going to be a situation I think. It isn't long enough to put anywhere it can be reached without burning yourself. I was going to call Lokar and see if they have a longer one but have not yet gotten around to it.

Thanks Mike. The dipstick issue is frustrating. Such a simple thing shouldn't cause so many problems. Part of the problem is we have a flat dipstck so it only really bends one direction. IOW "S" bends don't work well at all. I'd bet that Lokar can make you a cable version any length you want.

Re: Ty 0073 Bowtie Build

So I found out that there is actually a 24" dipstick from Lokar. I googled the part number and have yet to find it. Lokar will only sell it retail at $139. At this point, I think I am just going to order it from them as I can't seem to find it anywhere else.

Got the plenum bolted in. The last bolt hole towards the firewall on the driver side doesn't line up with the intake at all. Its at least an inch off. I can see why they did it this way to clear things like the dist. Looks like I am going to have to mark the spacer through the plenum and drill the new hole then drill and tap the intake.

Definitely rough getting the bolts in there. I may weld a ring to an allen wrench and a chain to a bracelet so it never falls in the intake ports.

Mike just keep ur dipstick and changed the braided line in the center. I ordered the ed-5001 and it is no where long enough if I put it to a header bolt ur going to burn ur hand every time. I just bought me Teflon lined braided hose and made it longer the dipstick just unscrew in sections. And no lokar will not sell it to you or tell u where to get it.

Re: Ty 0073 Bowtie Build

OK, gettin some shit done!! I actually decided to tear it all back down and start building it on a final level outwards. I am basically taking old parts and either cleaning, restoring or replacing them and making sure that fit is good everywhere. Got plugs and wires in and had to re-do the steering shaft brace. Left header is on for good, wheels wells, pulleys, Alt bracket have all been painted, heater box powder coated, hole drilled and tapped in to intake manifold, got all new bolts for everything like TB, fuel rails, TB adapter, trans, headers, converter, etc.

As far as things left to buy, it looks like exhaust is about it and some minor bolts and what not. BS3 should be in this things future but not likely until next year. I do have to fab up a fuel pump block off plate. Next time this is out I will have the machine shop plug that off.

Stay tuned, this project should be over soon!!

Re: Ty 0073 Bowtie Build

I'm feeling that old obsession feeling again. I was reminiscing about how I used to always keep my truck running and how far I would go to do so. I kind of feel that way again since I am gaining so much ground but there is only one problem. I am feeling really old. If I work on this thing or anything else any time after 3pm, I just plain flat out ****ing hurt. My feet my back my knees. I feel like a bitch.

Anyway, here is my progress from last night.

Basically I got the power steering lines finalized and in place, the fuel pump block off plate is done along with the "custom" gasket. Also sandblasted the ALT bracket this weekend and painted it and installed it with the power steering pump.

Probably wont do anything tonight since my vag is bleeding and the debate is on. But tomorrow I'll likely get to the heater core. I need to have some -10an fittings welded to it. Then I'll get on to the heater box.

I also really need to find my third crank pulley bolt, that sucker disappeared on me.

Re: Ty 0073 Bowtie Build

Not been on here for quite some time so just getting back in the mood myself. I feel your pain. I'm only 47 but the last few years I've just been so damned tired from working long hours and a lack of sleep on Youtube late every night following various engineers and machinists, learning the trade so I can do all my own work and eventually offer my services. If I pay someone else and they don't do a job as well as I would, I get angry with myself.

Anyway, looks like a good thread to get my teeth into as I wanted a Bowtie block myself years ago. It's really no wonder why so many people go for SBC's as donor blocks and new parts are so dirt cheap in comparison and the sheer range of options is staggering.

Get more sleep is all I can say! Easier said than done, right?

Looking good Mike!! Think I read somewhere that you had issues with the Stefs oil pan.. What was the problem... I'm gonna be in the need of a pan soon and was hoping Stefs would be a good option..

So far I have come across one issue with the Stefs pan. I don't remember exactly where it was but when you would turn the crank you could hear it hitting something. It took me a while to find it for some reason but remember having to shave off just a little bit of material on the pan rail. I want to say it was on the dip stick side. I have yet to put oil in it so I don't know if it leaks. I saw the thread of the RPM pan leaking at the welds long after I installed my pan. Had I seen that early on I would have checked it first. Other than that it seems like a really nice pan and it fits!

Last night I got a little done. Finalized the plenum install and got the throttle body done as well. I had broken a bolt in the power steering pump shaft but got that out and it was setting me back some.

Oh yeah, I had to seek professional help on the job:lol: This kid is funny, as long as he can put a tool in a hole he's accomplishing something.

I should be making a rather large push on this truck tomorrow. My family is going to Denver for the day with my parents and I'll have 4 - 6 hours to me!! Weird!

Got the exhaust done yesterday. I can't install it until I am done with the starter, I just need to wire it up at this point. Running in to a lot of little stuff under the truck, converter bolts in, need to re-install trans lines and coolers, etc.

Re: Ty 0073 Bowtie Build

Although it may not look like much. I got the heater core modified and the box installed. I'm not happy that when I was doing the core I dropped a screw and had to pull the carpet back to get it and saw first hand how bad the mice got my truck a couple years ago. I will be needing an entire new carpet kit and will have to clean the piss out of the floor. I set traps in it (the TOMCAT sticky traps) and had caught 2 mice. It reeks in there and I don't want to go back in.

Anyway, also installed the AFPR, one heater core hose, notice the valve cover breather hoses? All fuel lines hooked up, turbo oil drain hooked up and the wiring harness sort of installed. I have to wire up the starter next so I can install the exhaust for good.
