Turn-key L35 head package

Re: Turn-key L35 head package

I've just had some good luck in finding some cores, so now I can move forward. I'll order one set, send them to my head-building guy, get them back and check them, then post a bunch of pics.
I should be able to be pretty flexible on different setups, but my main purpose is to provide a well-built set of heads for a pretty much stock replacement setup.

Stay tuned!

I can get cores all day long $20 a set but have no hook up with a shop to do work on them, Stupid North Carolina.

Well, I could buy the cores from you and have them shipped.... I've got someone who can ship for me really cheap :)

Still working on this... trying to collect and get 10 sets of heads shipped up from Denver all in one shipment... or I may drive down and pick them up.

I'm watching this thread closely and am glad to see the L35 head project is still moving forward. I, too, am interested in a set of heads when they become available.

I'm interested as well. I was wondering if a comparison was ever done on a 4.3 engine between the L35 and the Vortec heads. Just changing the heads and the tune (Everything else being the same in the builds).

Re: Turn-key L35 head package

Small update guys...

Have got a supplier lined up for L35's. One good set coming to me, and one bad set that I can put on a bandsaw and cut through the valve guide centerlines. They're gathering 10 more sets for me.

I've got one of the best flow guys in the US lined up to come up with a custom port for us... this guy talks with Warren Johnson weekly and uses a Creek wet flow bench. I'm sure these L35's will be the best you can get once we get done massaging them.

Once the heads are boiled/magnafluxed and ported they'll go to my machinist/engine builder. We'll be putting together two different packages - one as a bolt on to a mainly stock engine, and a second package for use with bigger cam/turbo/injectors.

On Dig's suggestion I'll probably be recommending necessary/desired mods for each package. Even the package designed for stock motors will probably require bigger injectors. For the second package we'll try to get a recommendation put together for cam/turbo/injectors/tune/plugs/FP/AFPR, etc.

Stay tuned - we're getting closer!

Re: Turn-key L35 head package

Well, this really sucks. Every time I find a yard that says they can supply me with quantities of heads they never come through. I'm on my third source now and all have turned out to be flakes. I'm trying to find someone relatively close so that I can go there and pick up all ten sets at once and not have to have them shipped, because I really want to do these for as low of cost as possible.
I'll spend some more time on it tomorrow and see if I can find someone who will actually come through.
