Turbo Blankets: update SYTY PROTOTYPE PICS

the aftermarket downpipe blanket didnt fit (WAY too big), but the stock IC one worked.. I didnt like having the seam on the top side of the ic , so i need to get in touch with Julio and have them re-design it for cosmetic reasons.

I have a feeling that they are going to be out of alot of peoples price range though.

finally got an answer on pricing. The IC blankets will be $125 assuming enough people want them. The only difference b/t the production units and the prototype will be the velcro seams will be on the bottom side, instead of on the top. (i thought i posted some pics but if not i will do it again Friday/tommorrow)

As for the downpipe blanket, i think we may be able to use the top portion but it is undergoing some refinements. It should also be about the same price as the ic blanket, but the material is completely different.. The ic blanket uses a thin heat reflective material, whereas the downpipe stuff is more of a heat insulation. The drawings for the turbine housings were lost, so we are starting over there.

So if anyone is ready to pull the trigger on the intercooler blankets, i guestimated 25-50 units. I'll probably stock some for future sales, but at a slighly higher price. Should be ready in 2-3 weeks.

If you are interested email, post here or pm me so we can get a tally going. Shipping will be $12 to make things simple.

That's a little more than I was hoping for, but I'll take one anyway! Let's get this party started...

when i got the samples i was figuring they would cost more, but was actually surprised the price wasnt all that bad for the high quality.. Please post a name, and contact info to get orders processed. Email or PM if you are more comfortable.. thanks

i have received about 5 emails for the IC blankets. I expected alot more confirmed orders, but maybe people changed their mind or the price is too steep. At any rate we need some more people to order the blankets if we want anything to happen at all.

Doesn't seem like there was enough interest. Nobody wanted to spend the money. Not sure how cheap people thought they would be, but I thought $125 was a good price for a quality piece.

maybe its time for a GP thread on these...apparently insultech has enough data to get moving on blankets (at least for the stock I/C and turbo)....mike, did they ever have a chance to measure up a pte exhaust housing? can they do a downpipe cover like the one on the following photo? BTW, i've been monitoring my egt temps near the stock o2 bung and they are hanging around 1000deg. cruising around and climb as high as 1300 f under WOT....

i've kinda given up after all the hoops i jumped through to send them parts, test fit and give my feedback only for people to cringe at the price. I'm sure they can provide whatever you need but one part at a time will be even more costly. I really liked the intercooler blanket, but i would probably just stick to ceramic coating the exhaust/turbine housing. FYI, julio the one that was doing all the work for us, left the company.

I guess the only question I would have is this;

What would be the benefit of this Blanket over the wrap like stuff you cant get at a auto store for like $30 be?? I mean if we're only talking about a 100 degree drop (if say, on a 500 degree pipe..) for the Blanket, and maybe a 50 degree drop in the wrap stuff you can get at most auto stores. Is that little bit of heat drop worth the extra $100 or so???? :dunno:

And going off of that, to save even more if it is only a 100 degree drop, you could use a can of high heat spray and the wrap and probably still save money..

Someone stop me if I'm totaly wrong or something, or if I'm not understanding it right.. :wink:

I kind of forgot about and gave up on them because it took so long.

i still believe there's more of a benefit in covering the turbo and DP...that is the main cause of the intercooler heat soak...you can only imagine the reduced underhood heat and less burning plug wires ect...supposed to be a slight increase in performance because the hot air is accelerated out of the DP.... hope we can get something going with a pte setup as well...
