And attendence is up? From when? when 20 people showed up for Great Bend or Grand Bend whatever it was called? Last time I was at Nationals in KC there was 100 trucks or damn close, sure as heck not 40.
yeah, and that was what....... 8 years ago when not only were these trucks still somewhat "new", but actually still somewhat popular? oh again again, gas was what, $1.00 a gallon?

Obviously youre still living in 1998. The first 2 years will never be duplicated and its foolish to think the numbers will ever be that high again. If seeing 40+ trucks and 120+ owners/friends/family doesnt do it for ya, then you have no business even commenting on it. Times change, if you cant see that I dunno what to tell ya, but you cant live in the past forever.

Nats has been growing again in the past few years, but honestly I think its probably at its "core" size and will probably continue to be about 35 - 50 trucks and a couple hundred people and thats it.

In the days when these trucks were still kings of the street there were still only 100 trucks out of 7500 showing up. These trucks are not Hondas or even Corvettes or Buicks for that matter. We are a much smaller crowd, always have been, always will be. Stop trying to slam the community or whatever it is youre trying to do for the numbers being what they are.

wow is all i can say. It never seems to end with this group of guy's. Sooner or later everyone has to learn to get along better.

PS - Jeff can i get in on the bet of having my truck done before your truck is done.

Nope, wasn't 8 years ago, it was 6 actually.

I had planned on attending this year, but traded in my vacation time to get some other days off to play madden.

I will be there next year, unless I am still being told not to come.

And for the record, it is not the fact that there is only 41 trucks there that doesnt make me come, its the fact that my only experience I saw the community publicly ridicule someone who was there to have a good time and meet people, and I witnessed people tampering with other's trucks.

THAT is why I stopped going. But like I said, I plan on going next year, will just have to triple pad lock the enclosed incase anyone gets anymore bright ideas.

There hasn't ever been anything done to a truck that could be considered 'damage'.

I've had fuel pumps unplugged.
I've had stickers on my WINDOW. If it was on paint - that'd be different.
I've had my wastegate rod taken off so I got NO boost (that was fun to figure out).

What other 'tampering' has happened?

This was the most tension I've ever felt at the Nats.

Marty, I don't think you can get in on the bet since you're the only one having any work done on yours. :)

Oh I was there the morning SMAUG and his lovely lady were about to grab breakfast too. It had just showered some so the ground was wet. His fuel pump had mysterically become unplugged !! :squint:
He quickly was hinted to a fix and was on his way........he took it like a champ.
But I too would be a little gassed by that screwing with the truck. :squint:
All in good fun, I imagine. You definatly have a need to "not be thinned skinned" at any big event where you spend many hours camped together. Par for the course sometimes.
If they reach up in my stuff, better be careful........might find your meddling hand in a trap ..........OUCHY

i gotta say from an outside perspective it's pretty embarrassing what is going on and being said. This forum is a public representation of our group and community as a whole. There are how many registered memebers, and how many actually post?? Lots of people come on here b/c they want to be involved, they want to learn, and they want to be a part of a special community. Sit back and think how inviting this is to future events, gatherings, members and posts? How many magazine editors, or sponsors, or vendors such as myself want to be associated with this kind of behavoir?

Back in 1999 when i attended the first nats, there was no "clicks" or groupies.. Just 150+ people with common interests hanging out having a good time. Fast forward a couple years, the Chitown vs. RR dilema. People started to pick sides, and it has only progressed in a negative way ever since. This year it sounded like you were either with Bully or Robert... Didnt really sound like a comfortable enviornment to be in.. My hat goes off to Bully just for even showing up after all the attacks he suffered prior to the nats (maybe it was well deserved, but he still showed his face and truck) You honestly didnt expect him to welcome those who took personal attacks at him prior to the Nats did you.

In a world based on competition and ego, there will always be people who cheat and dont play by the rules. I wasnt there, kinda glad i wasn't but the real problem is Robert's truck did NOT meat NHRA rules. Contrary to what was being said prior to the nationals, his cage was not legal to 7.50 (which would be required to run 8.9X's), and by looking at it I cant see how it would pass NHRA cert for 11.99 with the construction of the main hoop and door bars. Instead of the community blasting Bully, why dont you attack those who led Robert to believe his truck would be able to run 100% and that special arrangements had been made with the track, etc?

One can only be responsible for their own actions and preparations. I would like to congradulate and personally thank robert for all the hard work and effort to bring his truck to the US, and show us it is the fastest AWD syclone. I had my doubts about those Swedish airport runway tracks, but i'm now a believer as are most of you. Bully obvisously sufferred some mechanical or electrical issues. Having an oddfire motor myself, let me tell you it is no easy task and weird shit just happens for NO apparent reason. As much as you all hated him there, and dont want him back next year you still took pictures and drooled over his truck. Without his truck it, there would have been (ONE) unique and fast truck. If this is what is desired, you can rest assure that next year we will see an even worse turnout with NO fast trucks.

Granted my opinions may vary if i was actually there, but every year people wonder why no heavy hitters show up. This drama is EXACTLY why. You cant let one person spoil a good thing, and every year it seems to happen.

Re: Thanks for the support from the Bully crew!

The good stories are what make the nationals fun. I am fairly certain Smaugs pump was unplugged by a close friend, not a random one.

I got a I love Renz's shaft sticker myself. I asked for another one. I am sure at some point Renz will get his revenge.

Robert had a good saying. "The ball is Round, what you dish out will come back at you so be careful!"

In terms of what Robert thought, etc don't be fooled or think he was led into something else. We discussed things in detail several times about the issues, I sent emails to people in the right places, etc. His truck is 110% legal in sweden per SHRA. We knew there was some risk bringing it in and running. Robert and myself took that risk, and we have no regrets. We just didn't expect others to try to amplify it.

I would suspect if you REALLY wanted, every truck at the nats this year could be disqualified from NHRA rules. I suspect it holds true at most races actually.

Believe me when I say, " its to interpetation" and it really is. Its not NEARLY as drama filled as it sounds. Not Nearly.
There was some tensions, but nothing like it sounds or is being portrayed. I met no-one who was a jerk,a$$ or overly rude.
I also was smart enough to weigh statements as I heard them.Any high emotions came from sources who continued to focus on it. Certainly NOT from the general audience's.
Everyone come again next year and make it your own experiance too. You won't regret it.

One suggestion for future nationals would be to bring the strippers to Dabney so the poor guy doesn't almost fall asleep driving to see them. He's getting older you know or Renz is getting slower.

I will say that Vinny's fear factor try out was more stomach turning then any of the tension going on. If Robert decides to make it back next year I will ask that they leave the delicacies at home and bring a Swedish cheerleading squad instead.

Hats off to the Nats staff and everybody who was there.

Re: Thanks for the support from the Bully crew!

The same people who talk about all the drama as a reason for not going to the nats are many of the same people who come on here starting sh!t.

Marlboro Ty --- Why do you insist on being a part of the same crap you say is the reason for less than 100 trucks at the nats. You want to know why there wasn't 100 trucks at the Nats??????????

Because drama queens like you sit back and type sh!t like this thread instead of getting off your ASS and bringing a truck to the nats.

The only drama is what ppl like you stir up. Maybe you should STFU about the event if you aren't going to bother to attend.
The group of us work our ass off to put this event on...pull our hair out trying to figure out how to make it more fun. People like you trying to make it out to be bad just piss me off.

So please STFU about 1999....last time I checked it was 06 and we had two AWD Sy's that have the potential to lay down 8's all day long. Seeing two trucks run 9's and 10's was great. And they weren't hacked up 2wd trucks.

The Bully crew is more than welcome to come back next year. They didn't understand the real core values of the event.
1 You bring your truck
2 You play nice with others
3 If you lose you do so gracefully and be proud you had the balls and money to build something to compete
4 If you help others the investment will pay out for years to come.
5 The Nats is NOT an episode of "Pinks"

In my opinion there should be no complaints from the bully crowd. Many people attempted to welcome them. I heard a number of people say they would have helped them but didn't because of their attitude at the event not because they called KCIR.
They did call KCIR and stir the pot. I know. I head up track day I sign the f'n contract.
Why?
For Roberts safety? The few things that truck lacked to meet NHRA rules should have had no meaning to the bully crew. The truck was very safe.
So why did they care?
They informed me that they built that truck to NHRA std for the nats. They spent the money on safety that Robert didn't. Since they spent money on safety they didn't have the money to make it as fast as Robert's. I pointed out that they had the parts to make the truck fast. They didn't need money.... they needed some TUNING.
If Robert had added the very few things needed to make it NHRA legal it would not have been any slower.
So why did the BULLY crowd feel the need to point out Roberts chassis?

As far as who won the PRO class it was Robert. The BULLY crew wanted him DQed because of NHRA regs.

BULLY guys let me let you in on a well known secret.
This is a private event.
This is not an NHRA points event.
This is sort of like street racing in a safe location with an ambulance standing by
This is not an NHRA event.

We come to win by laying down numbers... not worrying about others rollcage.

The nats committe determines class rules for performance.
The track determines who and what can run how fast.
AGAIN the track determines who and what can run how fast.

We do look at safety, however you did not get the trophy because you lost the race....plain and simple.

I'd argue your memory is faulty. Back in '99 as in '98 and 2000 there were plenty of cliques. There was the Chitown gang, the Socal gang and the Florida gang. We had peeps from Ohio and other states "clicking." There was much talk on the list about who was faster etc... There was also talk then about what message the behavior was sending.

The difference was we seemed to not let it all get in the way of why we were there, and that was to hang out as a SyTy group and have some fun. At that time, none of us would have ever fathomed someone from one of the other groups would have sabotaged the track day, with a telephone call before the event. That is all the more unbelievable when you consider Robert's situation.

Sure it matters, there are a number of peoples trucks I would screw with to get a good laugh at their expense. Smaug being one of them, Renz being another but he'll never have a running truck at Nats. Jason's truck had enough problems this year but it would be funny to make it idle at 2000 RPMs next year somehow, lol. Oh I could probably thing of tons of people who wouldnt mind having their trucks screwed with for a good laugh.

Its all just a matter of whos doing it, hence why many of as have become good friends and believe it or not, thats what friends do.

I dont think anyone in their right mind would dare touch someones truck their either didnt know or didnt think would get a chuckle out of the practicle joke.
