Re: Syclone in surgery

Thanks Shaun. This is not Sy/Ty related or Corvette related but I'm stoked anyway. Lingenfelter just put thier 2010 Camaro SS in the 8's today. The combo is a LS9 (original engine from my ZR1) with a 2 stage of nitrous and a TR6060 6 speed manual trans built by RPM ! Race weight is 4300lbs !

I have two 94 60e cases planning to have one built mildly locally and the other with a Transbrake by someone professional. What years cases are you all using for your builds on the SyTy's? I like the early model cases 94-96? they have the four bolt tailhousing that will except the factory transfer case adapter. I sent an email to TJ at RPM Transmission's requesting a couple differant stage quotes for the 60e several months ago and I never heard anything back. I guess I'll just have to call.

Before I dish out that kind of money for a 60e build I want to know what ingrediants im paying for.

Im going with the 60e, just havent decided who I want to build my expensive one yet. Im awaiting to see what kind of life I will get out of my mildly built 60e on 600hp in a 3200lb Sy. From what my results are with it I will decide how much I realy want to put into the next one. I'll have under 1,000 in my mildly built 60e without a TC.

The results are proven the 60e or any electronically controlled trans will outlast the TV cable of the 700r4. Being able to control shiftpoints and line pressure electronically has proven to make a longer lasting transmission, racing or street driven. The 60e has had it's issues, but the fix's are proven for quite some time now. RPM is a good example, just wish they would have responded to my email several months ago.

On a side note transmissions are not difficult to work on, all the information is available to learn. So it just depends all on your quality of work. Tearing down one and learning the parts and inspecting components is a good way for a beginner to learn. You can dissasemble 99% of a 700r/60e with general hand tools.

RPM is the way to go. I plan on getting the same transmission as T-Bone for my truck if/when I ever get to that point. I know it's not a syty, but they did build a 4L60e for an 8 second corvette that has been holding up.

Re: Syclone in surgery

The old adage "you get what you pay for" normally holds true. Time to spend more $$$ but this truck is gonna be rock solid when I am finished practically "rebuilding" it from the frame up. I thought I was buying a built $50,000 truck (although not a single receipt was produced) and it has sucked up about $15,000 more in exchange for about 860 miles??? Ughhhhhh...

I can affirm RPM transmissions has a reputation many tranny shops envy. The build they did for me has been reliable although it was a bit costly but I would rather pay big and be finished than pay small and have to repeat the process in 3-6 months.

I haven't done much with mine other than put a few miles on it around town but so far my RPM transmission is working well.

Well the tranny is still performing flawlessly but my motor sustained a slightly bent connecting rod (at least that is the pre-teardown determination of the engine shop) :(. Fresh build getting dropped in @ mid March with about 90+ more HP than the current 515 so the saga continues, however NO tranny failure yet. Fluid is crystal clean. Pretty sure a 6.67 1/8 puts me in the 10 sec range for the 1/4 but a future run at Bowling Green will remove all doubt.

You went 6.67? Damn.

Did I miss the vid?
