Re: Sy#1784

Haven't driven the truck yet but turning full lock to lock I don't really have any problems, I"m going to adjust the steering bumps if I have problems later. I do have front coil overs with the stock control arms though. The tires I have are sumutomo hrz? or somthing like that, $108.00 a piece from tirerack and they got great reviews from people who have bought them.

wow, you dont scrub with the 18s up front? the 17x9.5s just barely hit my a-arms, and had to grind out a section on the front lip. wouldnt have that prob if i could afford coilovers

not sure if i wanna do 18s all around... 18" tires hit the wallet hard

Re: Sy#1784

Okay a little progress last night,

I found out that our transmissions full of fluid with transfer case and converter attached it heavier then I can lift and carry by myself (6'4" and 195LBS not much upper body strength).....but I did get it out of my bed by myself, just ended up dropping it on myself... :rotf: but it's a little cleaner now...

Forgot to take a picture of just the tranny

I got the routing of my KB intake to work in the stock location, I need to look into wrapping the upper pipe and finding new pipes that will work with the KB intake so I don't have orange piping in my engine bay.

and a font shot of the intercooler....I think I'm going to weld the BOV flange down on the bend up to the throttlebody, so it will be seen down there and be freaking loud.

I also have this problem with the RPM intercooler piping fitment, the pipe coming off the turbo to the intercooler doesn't seem to reach even with the couplers on each end, it needs about a half an inch in each end....and suggestions?

the pipe to the turbo..

and to the intercooler, pipe held in the same location as the upper picture.

Re: Sy#1784

I somewhat had the same prob on my RPM A2A. I had to make slots for the mount of the heat exchanger so I could move it around so it would all fit correct without gapping and fitting flush.

Bad pic, but you can see mine here when I was making a scoop:

http://www.sytyarchives.com/gallery/v/sy0237/scoop/DSCN3359.JPG.html

You can see the very first hole I drilled in the back, but couldnt use it and had to slot the rest of it so i could move it back and forth.

Dont know if you have the space left on the mounting plate, but you may have to move the exchanger over left or right to fit up with the rest of the piping...

Re: Sy#1784

I agree and I thought to do that but I have the Beltech front swaybar installed and I was worried about the pipe comming off the intercooler to the TB hitting and rubbing, I think I wil try that tonight, I have the intercooler spaced about a half a inch down on the back mounting points.
I thought about making a scoop, I think It would look sick, do you have any pictures of your scoop finished? as for my piping, If i can't get it working soon I'm just going to go get a longer coupler for the bottom of the turbo pipe and call it a day... :)

Re: Sy#1784

never did finish it yet... started right as i was moving out my old house, buying a new one and dealing with some misc job crap in between. plan was to make it from CF. since im back doing fiberglass full time, im going to start pulling out projects i was working on, the scoop being one of them.

Well when you ever get back to that project if I haven't made one out of alumn yet I'd be interested in one..

Re: Sy#1784

Well I haven't done much to the truck due to lack of funds, the holidays, and the fact that it has been 40-50 Degrees in my garage. I did find time to finish the mock up for my A/C Delete ( similar to R P M kit, Mike, I would have bought your kit and called it a day, but I just love making stuff from scratch.) and paint my new gas tank. So here are some pictures of that. (please excuse the quality of the pictures they were taken on my handycam. my dad went to Ireland / Germany for Christmas and new years, took his nice camera too.)

I welded up a bracket to bolt my tensioner in the right location. yes that is a 14mm craftsman deep socket, it's cracked down the side anyways...

Another shot, I still need to make a triangle brace to connect the socket to the plate then clean the whole thing up so I can powder coat it.

The new gas tank.

The clean tranny.

The engine as it sits.

Re: Sy#1784

I found a little time to work on the truck yesterday. It's becoming a little overwhelming with all the vacuum lines and wiring. I'm forced to just take it slow and look at pictures of a year ago, when I took the engine out. When I went to put a new cap and rotor on my distributor that the inside is all rusted out. so I guess I will be calling RPM sooner then I thought. But yesterday I:

*Installed the new gas tank
*mocked up transmission cooler and lines (need to make brackets for the cooler, then I can put the grill back on  )
*figured out how I going to use my stock intake piping to pass smog
*installed coolant overflow bottle and lines
*Injectors/fuel rail
*MAP sensor/EGR solenoid/ignition coil, and supporting bracket
*mocked up the turbo oil and coolant lines, only to find that I need a new oil return line
*painted the stock waste gate, and mocked it up on the turbo (I will be sending the turbo off to waller within the next month to get worked over, 57mm wheel/porting and such)
*mocked up the OVERLY SHINY Vortec BOV (I will have it welded next week)

I'm almost to the point where I need a battery relocation kit to continue/finish the wiring, I think I'm going to wire it up like flyin ryan or Syclone Rob did his with the original posts on the side of the fender.

Re: Sy#1784

Got a little more done last weekend...I'm hoping today will be just as productive.

List of what was done last saturday:

*BOV flange welded and mounted
*Transmission cooler mounted
*Battery posts mounted on fender and wired to the box in the bed. I'll be redoing the metal mounting service, it's just a little too small. At least the box is bolted in and the wires are secured.
*Bolted grill back on, and bolted the starter in.

Looks good, makin some progress! I'm really liking how you relocated the battery as well. looks slick.

Re: Sy#1784

okay so, I got the manifolds bolted on, the vacuum lines all routed (accept for the BOV, I need to "T" in somewhere and run the line.) the wiring ALL figured out and routed, the vacuum ball mounted and added another ground to my battery relocation. Now there is a ground line running from the remote terminals (connected to the stock cable that runs to the block) to the frame. and of course one that runs off the battery to the same frame rail. Do you guys think that will be enough grounds, or should I add more?

Now I'm going to take the plenum off to be powdercoated tomorrow (hopefully) then I will decide if I'm going to put it back on or wait for the turbo to get back so I can put oil in the engine and build oil pressure with a drill. It's a matter of if I want to work around my freshly powdercoated plenum, build oil pressure, install the distributor and setting timing...

anyhoo here are some pictures of the progress...

I"m really Loving the final stance of the vehicle, I'm just not looking forward to getting the suspension in alignment, I have what "looks" to be 1"- 2" negative camber :rotf:

Re: Sy#1784

Got the master electrical shut off solenoid installed in line to the battery. I'm awaiting the new stock passenger taillight to come in the mail. Once here I will drill a hold in the lens and attach the switch to it. Then when I go the drag strip I can just swap out my street (night shaded) taillight for the other taillight with the electrical shut off switch on it and be good to go with track rules and regulations. ( Thanks for bringing that NHRA rule to my attention Don W. )

oh ya and I won this item on ebay! Item number - 170198711229

WBO2 FTW!

Re: Sy#1784

success! the new tail light came today! So I took the lens and night shaded it to match the other side. Then drilled a 1" hole in the center of the lens and cut out the back side of the lens to make the switch fit. So here are the results...

I'd be worried someone would hit it to hard and crack the lens. :dunno: Looks great man.

I agree, and after getting it all bolted in the lens seems to hold the button pretty good. I did a couple "teat runs" to make sure it wouldn't crack and it feels solid even with a hard smack to the button. Also the taillight cost 40 dollars, and I still have two cans of nightshades lying around... so I could just build another one with a little metal reinforcement if this one decides to break.

I love the wheels ... glad you rescued that truck. The way you cleaned the cladding and hood (top of fender too) shows its potential :) ---

Thanks for the kind words, most of my paint is shot though. How is gathering up the parts to fix your truck? I wish I could get fresh paint like you will have in a matter of months...
