man i think u should paint ur grill letter white man it would look sweet with havin the stripe go rite there over them from the hood to the bumper there i just think it would be a nice touch

I have the 92 black letters but I think I will paint the border around the black white , the part that is chome on red letters. That would look pretty good I think and make them stand out a bit more.

ShuggsRR I've followed this thing before on another S series site and 1 thing that I've always wondered about :squint: Would you consider putting Bravada cladding on the side of this thing vs just the cut down fender flares??? My :2cents: but I'd donate the side kit for really cheap & I think it'd look better jus' my :2cents: though. Not knocking anything if you really like it but so be it.

So after the dash went in, the started kicked the bucket. If its not one thing....
So I decided to be cheap and pull the starter fron my parts Blazer and us it for now.

I learned that the 4.3V6 starter works BUT with the LT1 the solenoid is in the way of the exhaust. sigh. So I bought a new starter. It was MUCH smaller than both of them so it should work great for the truck.

After that, the truck STILL wouldnt start, so I pulled all the spark plugs out and cleaned them. It fired right up after that!

I thought about it for a bit but changed my mind, I have Typhoon cladding that I plan to sell someday as well. One day I would like to complete a Sonoma GT ground effects kit for it actually.

Progress has been very slow with everything going on in my world.

So the plugs fouled again and trying to start it I broke the starter with a little backfire/kickback. sigh... So luckily we buy so many parts from them through my shop I got it swapped out with ANOTHER new one. I also bought a set of NEW plugs this time. and again, it fored right up. (that was a one month process to do all that by the way).

I also got a few other fun new parts. I got new struts for the rear glass. I still want a no defront, no wiper glass... one day.

I got some new license plate bolts that double as licence plate lights so I dont have to shop up my roll pan to get some lights.

I also measured my useable space where an air filter will go and ordered a universal K&N filter that should do the trick.

I have an exhaust guy coming out to look at it and start workingon getting me some pipe to build my exhaust. i would like to have it done this week but may take some time. We will see. I plan to use my 3" single plan with my electronic cut out and then a magnaflow muffler out to a single hidden outlet. I cant wait to drive this thing!!

Yup. Good thinking. Then you could rename it a Jimmy GT and get a decal made instead of Sonome GT ? Just a thought. I dont think Bravada cladding would look right on there, or even Ty cladding for that matter.

Re: Project Tyclone SS: 85 Jimmy, LT1, AWD, etc

I drove an LT-1 powered caprice for 8 years. Those motors are great until they start to have ignition issues.

The only time I ever had one backfire while starting was when the opti was starting to go out on it (which happened 3 times) I never fouled a set of plugs though, and well, as dishonorable as this is about to sound, I never changed the plugs once. if your fouling your plugs often, either you gap is wrong, which I doubt, or you could have a bad coolant temp sensor, and to make it even better, the lt-1 has 2 of them. The one on the water pump is for the computer and the one above the starter on the block is for the gauge IIRC. You may want to hook up a scanner and see what the engine thinks the temp is, as if its broken if could be pegged super cold, and trying to 'choke' the motor by ultra enrichening it ( forget which way the resistance works on those sensors). same goes for the IAT sensor on that goofy rubber elbow.

everytime I had a backfire that starter snout would get shattered, and each time it happened, I would be the point in which I'd have to take a break, lol

Re: Project Tyclone SS: 85 Jimmy, LT1, AWD, etc

So for the 4th of July weekend I was going to trailer it home and spend all weekend working on it. Well, it died and I havent been able to move it since. Last Sunday was a high temp of 95 and we decided it was finally cool enough to work on it again (its been in the 100s ever since the 4th here in texas.) ack

Learned that my beloved optispark was having issues. We replaced the cap and rotor and it fired right up! WOOO! So now the plan is to bring it home and go get an exhaust built for it!

You should look into getting individual coil packs. My friends impala ss goes through opti's like hot cakes. It's just a flaw of that engine.

So the Tyclone made the move home over the weekend. I brought it to work Aug 2007 and it arrived back home Dec 2011. Now I should be able to work on it a bit here and there in the garage!

My boss let me use his awesome trailer, and my buddy pulled it home with his diesel Dodge.

Ahhh... the open road! lol

Man its sexy from the back end!

Now this is really a moment for me. My Tyclone safely in the garage and my little boy standing infront of daddys project truck. Someday he will be able to help daddy wrench on it and I hope to take he and his older brother on the Hot Rod Power Tour in it someday.

Man this feels good to see it home!!
jsw_img_8251.jpg

After a very productive day of moving the truck and all its misc parts home, we sat down to watch Cars and eat popcorn.

Re: Project Tyclone SS: 85 Jimmy, LT1, AWD, etc

I have decided that step #1 is to complete the doors. I want the power locks, windows and all interior parts done and then the door panels installed. Today we worked on the door panels.

I have the original Typhoon door panels from my wrecked parts truck. Problem is that the truck was TOTALLED in a head on collision and the doors were waded up. Therfore the panels were broken. I have three spare sets, light grey, tan and blue. I want the Typhoon door panel inserts and a clean set of panels. Here is what we did.

Started with taking of the switch plates and the Typhoon leather inserts.
jsw_img_8311.jpg

Then I took the same parts off the light grey panels.
jsw_img_8312.jpg

I then cleaned them up, masked them and scuffed them with some Scotchbrite and painted them with Duplicolor Vinyl & Fabric paint. AWESOME!

Here is a before and after shot

Here is a stock Typhoon panel on the left with the freshly painted Tyclone panel onthe right.

And she sleeps again...

Those door panels came out great! How much of a PITA was it to swap the 92 Ty leather inserts? I'll be tackling that shortly as I cracked a door panel in my 92 and I'm getting a syclone panel to replace it wirh.
