I know the real reason why you don't want all the salt/snow or anything on the road. That way when you do your shake down runs and all the tools fall out from the 5+ years they will be easier to see and pick up :D

Re: Project Never Ends

Congrats on getting it running & driving Jeff!! Very impressive - Is this the first turbo V8 SyTy with A/C??

Hell, is this the first fuel injected turbo V8 SyTy that runs & drives?

Either way, we all can't wait to see how it runs under BOOOOOSTTTT!

Saw it move under it's own power yesterday. Sounds better than I expected. I'll let Jeff tell you guys about the small issue we found though :D :D

Most progress that trucks seen in a long time.

Glad to see it!

BTW, you're pictures are getting better but still totally whowacked and crooked. Do I need to buy you a tripod?

Just buy him beer without alcohol in it. He won't know the difference.

Re: Project Never Ends

I am not sure what that small issue is, well aside from the ones I already knew about.

Exhaust got fixed today, just a few hangers left to build and it is done. Everything clears finally.

Just a minor hood fitment issue that we found. Kinda figured it'd glaze right over you :D :D

O yea, who needs a hood let alone one that will close.

Re: Project Never Ends

Hood now closes. The "easy" way out would have been a cowl hood and although I like them, I wanted to keep this truck as stock on outside as possible. Might still do a cowl hood later but for now stock hood will do.

Had to modify my uppipe and got it lowered some, then it was time to cut some bracing from the hood. Took several trys as I didn't want to just hack it all up but we got it. I won't say it has a ton of extra clearance but it all fits now. Time to put a hood latch on it a few minor things and drive it.

I'm coming down for that.... Hummm... you can tune and I'll drive :)

Now that sounds like a fun weekend. Especialy if I drive the Camaro down!

$hit now that gas is 10.00 a gallon Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr....

Can't wait to see video with all 8 injectors running Lol!

Re: Project Never Ends

6yrs and counting today was the first time it made a trip to the gas station for a fill up. WAHOO

This time it got a tank of e85 though instead of gas. Did a couple autotunes and truck is starting to really come around. I would trust driving it more than just a few blocks away and actually put about 10 miles on it today.

Tune was way lean and the reason the pops in the video I posted many weeks ago. I knew it needed tuned back then just didn't have much time and have yet to push the truck any.

I can tell you I am very happy and have a grin from ear to ear. Lots of tweaking remains on a lot of things but being able to drive it is a nice change of pace.

Pics and video I promise will come some time. I am enjoying being behind the wheel instead of a camera.

CONGRATS!!!!! It is great to see how much fun you are having with the truck!!!

In a different direction I was wondering what wideband you have? I searched the thread and didn't see it.

Also if you could post what you changed in code $59 to allow you to autotune it I bet people would love to see that... Even if it is on the code $59 forum...

Thanks!!!

PLX

I have posted bits of info on what we did but the main thing is code59 spits out flags to signify when acceleration enrichment, decel enleanment, power enrichment. Autotune then removes those data points when calculating average AFR for each VE cell that is active.

stock syty code doesn't output those flags into the data stream so if you did an autotune type application it would include those also which can complicate and corrupt the averages.

Of course code59 has 512 data points in the VE table instead of ~80

Dang I forgot to add E-85 in my question. It should have read what did you change in Code59 for the E-85... Makes a completely diffferent question.

I also have a PLX and it looks like it automatically reads 14.7 as lambda no matter what the fuel. (To get the actual afr you have to calculate it on your own) So It appears that you can just put e-85 in the tank (with a pump and injector upgrade) with the PLX and it will send the correct info to Code59 allowing autotune to still work without changing any thing major in Code59.

Is this right?

Re: Project Never Ends

Although i am no O2 sensor expert your info is correct. Your still going after 14.7 number even with e85.

As an example this actually kicked me and had me wondering sunday. I drove to the gas station which is 2-3 miles away. Truck was running ok, but stumbling in some areas from being lean. Remember my tune is very early in development so I expected this.

Pulled up before I got gas, and did an autotune. Sure enough it was adding fuel to areas I knew were lean.

Put $40 of e85 in the tank and head back home. Truck is better in some areas but worse in others. Got home and the damn thing wouldn't idle on its own, before it idled perfect as that is all I had tuned.

Took me a couple hours later when I drove the truck again to realize I had just put a full tank of e85 in -vs- the 50/50 mix with gas I had before. DOH! :banghead:

Did another autotune later that night around the block sure enough it was adding fuel again, so much I have maxed the VE table out and need to make an adjustment to another table.

Give me about 20 miles though and it should run pretty damn good.

I think you should be shooting for something a little lower in AFR for the E85 numbers.

If ethanol (stoich AFR of 9) is mixed with gasoline (stoich AFR of 14.7) the resulting gas has a lower stoich AFR than 'pure' gasoline. As the fuel injection is tuned to mix a certain amount of fuel for a given amount of air, the resulting mixture would be leaner when using a fuel with lower stoich AFR.

I pulled that from here

Just some food for thought!
