Re: Possible 32 spline input shaft GP
All that being said, Mike, thanks for the offer on the shaft, but I've made some progress on the gp. I'm mailing out the stock pieces early next week, and expect a quote by the 2nd week in Jan. Either this is a no go, or shafts are being machined by end of Jan. PERIOD
As I said before, I have everything I need at Jeff's to make my own, it could be done Sunday. But we were hoping to make a 1 time run gp to help motivate some people and get a few more trucks running.
As for the 80e breakage issue, the cryo treatment on the output shafts, as well as the spline downsizing is the issue here. My shaft twisted, just as george intended it to, twist not snap off. Had I not smoked my converter I would still be running on it. I just cannot justify putting it back in when I know its bad. I have talked to a ton of local trans shops and none of them have any hard parts for 80e trans laying around. Because they dont break hard parts. I think its just a matter of dialing things in. 4000 lbs plus gobs of torque=extreme abuse. I have every confidence this is my last major tranny rebuild.
JSM guys are def extreme duty application. Each of us has also broken a transfer case on a stock motor truck. Some guys break stuff real well, its just a coincidence that we've somehow all assembled the way we have.
