Re: Possible 32 spline input shaft GP

All that being said, Mike, thanks for the offer on the shaft, but I've made some progress on the gp. I'm mailing out the stock pieces early next week, and expect a quote by the 2nd week in Jan. Either this is a no go, or shafts are being machined by end of Jan. PERIOD

As I said before, I have everything I need at Jeff's to make my own, it could be done Sunday. But we were hoping to make a 1 time run gp to help motivate some people and get a few more trucks running.

As for the 80e breakage issue, the cryo treatment on the output shafts, as well as the spline downsizing is the issue here. My shaft twisted, just as george intended it to, twist not snap off. Had I not smoked my converter I would still be running on it. I just cannot justify putting it back in when I know its bad. I have talked to a ton of local trans shops and none of them have any hard parts for 80e trans laying around. Because they dont break hard parts. I think its just a matter of dialing things in. 4000 lbs plus gobs of torque=extreme abuse. I have every confidence this is my last major tranny rebuild.

JSM guys are def extreme duty application. Each of us has also broken a transfer case on a stock motor truck. Some guys break stuff real well, its just a coincidence that we've somehow all assembled the way we have.

UPDATE! Sent samples off today, should hear back by next week. Also talked to another manufacturer who does alot of custom race car axles, etc. Their engineer seemed excited to quote for us, as soon as I get my hands on another input shaft, I'm mailing it out to them.

Got back first quote today, it was double what we are shooting for, but I am still trying.

New update.....

Got back samples from first machine shop, received quote from mark williams race cars, and took samples out to new shop today for more quotes. Also talked to Moser engineering for a quote. Mark williams came up with a two piece unit that will work, and is cheaper, but I think the single shaft packaging is a better set-up. For the difference in price the two piece is not really an option, but all current quotes are too high, but definitely getting closer though.

Local shop I talked to today seemed promising.

Am also negotiating with George's original supplier

Good NEWS finally. :tup::tup:

We have had SEVERAL different companies quote, 1 even no quote after giving a rough quote.

Be 2 prices, 1 for prepay, 1 for pay when they are complete.

I still have a list of those interested before. The prepay option looks to be in the mid-high $300 range like we had hoped, pay when complete is low $400 range.

We are going to place the order next friday. I should be able to post by saturday morning the final price once hardman, jeremy and myself run the final numbers tomorrow.

Re: Possible 32 spline input shaft GP

yeah, i shipped those parts all over the US and the place thats doing the work is in downtown, and I drive by it everyday, go figure.

specs are: hardened 4340, with the extra .6 in length on the engagement to the trans output.
Plug and play operation.

Only catch here, is we gotta sell 20 to make the minimum for the shop to do the work. Jeff will post a new Gp thread, and we can get this thing underway.
