Looking for a Syclone
Re: North Fl Tyclone

The silver looks really good, this clone is getting more TLC then I've seen a few legit ones get ;)

I pulled out most of the interior today. I will be installing new carpet in the front of the truck, and it will give me a chance to clean things up a little, and half way straighten out the old speaker wiring mess. (The beer can on the tailgate was added to give proper perspective on the size of the job.)

Where you getting the carpet from? going black or charcoal? I'm eventually going to be looking into carpet myself, I'm really curious if the aftermarket stuff has the cutout for the rear cargo hold down or not (I'm hoping not)

I got my carpet from this place: http://www.auto-interior.com/gmc13.htm#Typhoon

I ordered charcoal color, but a custom color "dark charcoal" would probably be a better match. This carpet has no holes cut out for the shifter, seat bolts, ect,, but I did not get the carpet for the cargo area, only the passenger area.

I did get the black colored carpet for my SY, but if I had it to do over again, I would have gotten the dark charcoal. Also, I ordered the extra "mass backing" on my SY carpet, but not for the clone. The mass backing adds at least 30 pounds to the weight of the carpet, but it does make the cab quiet.

Here was my solution to the cheap china window run channels that do not make it all the way down to the window sweeps. I was at pick and pull today and cut a small length of run channel off a junk Blazer, then cut it down to fit and used weather strip adhesive to fill the gap that was left after I installed my new ill fitting run channels. DaveP and I discussed this in the past. It looks pretty good and is hard to see unless you are looking. I know I have to touch up the paint on the door where I scratched it installing the outside window sweeps. Enjoy.

Re: North Fl Tyclone

I installed the carpet yesterday as well as the back seat, center console, and driver's seat. Today I installed the Turbo Tweak chip. The coverlay dash cover arrived a couple of days ago, and I will be installing it soon. I can't finish the cladding right now, as I am waiting on some mounting tabs from Tom at Sportmachines, but he is dealing with other issues right now. The broken console lid on the clone is sweating me, but a good one is not cheap. I will keep scouring pick and pull for a good one. If anyone is still looking, I do need to purchase a good set of front seat belt trim pieces, the one's that go from the attachment bolt by the console up to the belt attachment piece. Mine are shot at the top, and make the attachment piece flop over.

Re: North Fl Tyclone

Yesterday afternoon, we painted the last of the cladding, so today was cladding install day, and I got lucky (careful) and did not break any of the cladding or tabs. I think it turned out pretty good. I should have washed it before the pic, but I will save that for later. I still have to get the brackets to install the rear corners from Sportmachines. Despite the naysayer with the other clone that gave me the rolled eyes when I said I could repaint the truck for a few hundred dollars, the total cost of the repaint was $900.

This is what it looked like when I first got it. The pic looks OK, but there were a lot of paint and broken cladding issues:

I was concerned about how the repaired driver's front arch would fit, but it turned out good:

Before.

After.

The repair was done with cheap Harbor Freight two part epoxy, and lots of sanding and blocking.

Thanks for watching. Next is to finish the interior and install the decals. I bought the decals from Sticker Bomb, and they are red.

That is one nice looking truck! Those clear light in the front look really good. Just needs to be lowered a bit

I would be willing to trade this truck for a muscle car/interesting project car. No mustangs, though.

Interested in a 1986 Corvette coupe Z51 4+3 112K miles, drives great, needs minor cosmetics? A/C is cold, all power, black on black.

Thanks, Gary, but I am hunting for something a little older (pre 1972 or so). I will keep that in mind, though.

OK, too bad I sold the '66 Chevelle already. It would have been perfect.

Re: North Fl Tyclone

Yesterday, I tried the "aircraft stripper" on one of the rims. I tried to buff it after the clear was stripped with my air buffer, but it did not look as I thought it should. Today, I took it over to my buddies shop, and we put the buffer wheel on it. It turned out good. Next will be stripping the rest the wheels and center caps, buffing them, then painting the wheel inners and clearing the whole wheels.

Old on left, new on right:

These are going to look good:
