North Fl Tyclone

Guess I will start a new thread on the Ty or Clone that I just bought:

I just got the truck home. It has chrome door handles, the under hood insulation has a large "4x4" printed on it, no overhead console, and you can tell where it was a column shift truck in the past. There is no ABS module or ABS delete, but the wheel speed sensors are still at all four corners. The motor is just about as stock as I have ever seen a sy/ty motor, to include the cross over tube and factory air box, egr, etc., and all of the drive train appears to be correct from what I have seen so far. I am 99% sure some one swapped a 1989 cab onto a Ty chassis. The story on the chassis is something I have to research. I took it on a quick spin, and it seems to run great, but I did discover a leaking FPR which would explain the rich running at idle and low speed. More to come.

Re: Tyclone ??

How bad is the rust on the roof? I still regret not picking this up, but at least someone on here grabbed it to save it!

Mark, I plan on fixing it enough to drive it, then repaint it. Might as well make it look good, and I don't have to worry about messing up an original truck

The is no rust on the roof, just peeling paint. There is no rust around the cladding or windows. The only bad spot is that hole in the rear pillar, but I can fix that easy with a welded patch and some body work. Some of the cladding has cracks, but I can fix those also. The body underneath is sound, with minimal rust. The motor starts and runs fine, and the trans seems to be fine. There is no blow by when I removed the oil filler cap. It does need a new prop shaft, plus a lot of other things here and there that I will be posting in the WTB section once I get a list. I think I got a really good deal, and this was exactly what I was looking for: something I can screw around with without out worrying about destroying it's value, because this truck basically has no value other than parts.

So it is a SyTy? :rotf:

Nice - another one saved, even if spirit only! And the chassis and cladding etc.

What colour?

Re: Tyclone ??

is the dash original to the cab? I'm guessing yes, but maybe the SPID is still in there if it was swapped over with the seats and stuff?

More mystery:

Pic of the master cylinder and cruise:

Pic of the date stamp on frame. Says 10-25-88

Either a massive amount of effort to make a clone or a stolen truck.

Re: Tyclone ??

Here is a pic of the trans tunnel just below the center console. It looks like a bolt on tunnel cover. I don't think this is stock for a 92 TY, but I may be wrong:

Dear fellow Floridian:

It appears that you are now the proud (or not) owner of a chopped up Blazer. Lets only hope law enforcement in north Florida is not as competent in the field of auto theft recovery as they are further south.

Best of luck,

Sy1566

Thanks for your input, fellow Floridian, I guess you don't know the back story.

Re: Tyclone ??

Who says its stolen? Drivetrain swaps arn't hard, just time consuming. Quite a few memebers on here have syclone/typhoon guts in regular S-Series.

Your going to have to get the motor VIN and check it out, that will likely tell you where all the TY goodies orginally came from.

Re: Tyclone ??

looks like someone tried really hard at wanting a TY so they got everything they needed to swap. id say good find for $1650 if it has some type of theft mystery that's no longer your issue I say stop searching so hard and just enjoy it before Haters keep trying to pull stuff out of the woodwork on this one.

Whos to say this thing wasn't put together 15 years back.

Re: Tyclone ??

Cleaned up the underside today, any thoughts on the trans crossmember? It is a tubular style, not like my SY.

Re: Tyclone ??

That crossmember looks like the one on my Syclone.

EDIT: Then again...

Re: Tyclone ??

Some brief polishing, starting to look better: I put freon in the a/c and it blows cold. It has been converted to R134.
