Re: How is this possible?
There's another aspect I didn't think of last night that makes these trucks appeal to the NE crowd over the West.
Emissions testing.
I don't think thats a major player, it may start to be one now at least in NJ, but they only dropped emissions testing on OBD-1 vehicles as of last May 1st, prior to that it was damn hard to get through emissions. Back in the early 2000's I used to have to take my Ty to a private inspector so I could drop my fuel pressure down so I could pass CO and NOX at Idle. During that period, I was told by multiple shops that NJ testing was 2nd to only California at the time. In face a lot of independent shops had to give up their license because they couldnt afford all the equipment required to perform the inspections any longer. The Green/Gray I bought was only sold because it would no longer pass Maine inspection and cost too much in repairs to make it pass.
Eventually, the NJ dropped the requirement of cars being tested under load (on rollers) and then many years later they dropped safety inspections and just kept emissions, then dropped emissions on 1995 and older vehicles.
My guess is state registrations only showed so many 95 and older vehicles on the road that weren't already Historic or Collector they didn't feel it was needed to waste their time with the sniffer test in the tailpipe since it would take 2-3 times as long to inspect those vehicles than it does an OBD-2 vehicle.
Either way I'm happy, I never have to get my Typhoons inspected again.
This trend of less activity on SyTy.net is happening across many different forums. People are posting on Facebook. I don't complete get it, Facebook is convenient for pictures, memes, video and the general comments, but it is pointless to ask technical questions that become buried after a day and cannot be searched for. I guess some just want instant gratification.
I created the FB Group for a couple different reasons. The first being the fact that a majority of our members were on there already, why not bring everyone together and take advantage of another media source.
As I think its been mentioned in another thread, with all the publicity these trucks have been getting; Clint Eastwood, Jay Leno, Garage Squad, Car Fix, Steve's YouTube video, Mecum, Barrett-Jackson, etc. we need as much exposure as we can get.
Heck, if the forum was actually 100% functional, we would be pulling members in from FB instead of everyone thinking the FB Group is pulling people away from here. People are on FB regardless of this place, everyone has the app, it takes 2 seconds to load it and look, push notifications bring your attention to your post as soon as it happens.... it does have its advantages, and I know I've said it before, but I named the group SyTy.net to help promote the forum, not to hurt it.
The FB Group will never replace the forum unless FB figured out a way to integrate a forum directly into their site. Search blows on FB, shit gets buried faster than your missing ex wife, the only thing FB does take away from is the bullshit that gets posted in the SyTy Lounge, granted its the most popular forum on the site, FB will not replace the Tech forums and it will never have the history and information this forum does.
