Re: FMIC project started.

nice write up.. I did one a while back and used one of those ic's but one where the inlet/outlet are both on one side so I could minimize the amount of piping needed. Worked out great and my intake temps are much lower and more consistent then with the stock a2w setup ever was so you'll be happy.

Re: FMIC project started.

I decided the pte51 turbo is to much monwy. This 25G is big! 60 trim compressor and 74 trim exhaust turbine. Im really giddy about this turbo. Its not water cooled either. Im excited. I will post plenty of pics when everything is done. I need volunteers now to help me with code59 in the future :)

Re: FMIC project started.

are you going to reclock the center section of that turbo?

I too am curious how that chinese turbo will hold up. I've heard some pretty bad reviews on them. Do you have a compressor map? specs on the exh housing? At least it bolts up/fits.

also...does the stock dp bolt up to it?

Really? What sort of things have you heard?
I am going to reclock the center section. I could not get the snap ring off . Its really one here. Even more so than the stock turbo. I took it to rochester fuel injection. They rebuild turbos and they have a tool for removing the snap ring. I told them how I wanted it to be turned.

Compressor:
60mm inducer / 78mm exducer - 60 trim / .64AR
Inlet 100mm / Oulet 65mm

Turbine:
55mm inducer / 63mm exducer - 76 trim / .73AR
Outlet 57mm

Re: FMIC project started.

just that the bearings wear out quickly from poor lubing. Wheels aren't truely balanced. And the castings in general suck.

There is a reason garret/turbonetic turbos are expensive....R&D and quality parts.

Re: FMIC project started.

Im reading that OBX products won the SEMA International Products award.
http://www.obxracingsports.com/about_us.php

I think the GT35R is driven up by hype. Yeah its an awesome turbo but is it awesome for $1500. Just like when the toyota supras were in the fast and the furious movie. All of a sudden the price on those things double just because of the hype. Maybe your are right about the turbo not holding together. We will see. For the price I pay for a Garret turbo I can buy three of these turbos.

On the obx web site the 25g turbo is $600. I just got the same thing for $475 shipped.

I contacted obx on getting the 25g journal bearing compressor map. Im not to worried about it because I have seen a 20g compressor map and I would put money down that the 25g will out flow a 20g.

well of course it'll out flow it...its a bigger turbo. the question the map will answer is whether the 25g will be efficient with your build.

lifetime warranty sounds great. Does that warranty also cover your motor for the pieces of compressor wheel it'll shoot through your motor if it fails? Not trying to scare you away from the turbo...i hope it works well and becomes a cheap upgrade for syty's. Just thinking you should be aware of it and check on it.

Thaks for looking out for me Renz. I hope this works out for me. Im sure the 25g is going to me laggy compared to the stock turbo. If tooky can spool a pte51 with the stock stall and run a 11.7 I hope to get the 25g to spool also. I also like taking roads less traveled. I will definetly be posting a great amount of info on this turbo and how the truck handles it. I will be watching shaft play regularly. Maybe I can be an example of what to do or what not to do. As far a needing a new motor. Im sure that day will come. Whatever breaks can be made stronger. The only thing that wont be stronger is my bank account.

Re: FMIC project started.

its a pretty small exhaust housing, so i'm guessing you should be able to spool it without much problem. Might take a lil more time to spool it on the line for you. Once you get the map you'll be able to make a pretty well informed assessment though.

In reality, you should be selecting a turbo based on goals and efficiency...not on size/looks. But trust me...i don't abide by this logic myself, so who am i to point fingers.

Re: FMIC project started.

Well I wanted something that I could use with a somewhat stock setup and yet be big enough for what I want to do down the road. 20g's are great for stock trucks. I just wanted to go a little bigger than that. If I was all about looks and hype the gt35r would be my choice. It also meets my goals budget wise. I can use the stock DP and current oil lines. It fits without modifying the AC bracket. I think I can spool this turbo with the stock stall. I just felt that stock turbo and intercooler were the biggest bottle neck on the system. I would say the heads and injectors are probably the next bottle neck.
