DB MN Dyno

I’m headed to DB Performance AWD dyno tomorrow in Rodgers MN. I’m hoping they can tune my truck. Sounds like he needs some bins and XDF files for tuner pro. I sent him what I could find off of Code59's web site.
Anyone have tips and suggestions. As to other bins I should send him. I’m not well versed in tuner pro. My mods are in my sig. I will post up a dyno sheets Friday when I get the chance. Input and direction is appreciated.

Keith.

Not to take the wind out of your sails, but you will want to have all your idle & part throttle tuning before doing any boost and WOT tuning. The base bins on code $59 forum are just intend to get your truck up and running.

I personally refuse to tune on a dyno unless your building a truck to run on the dyno and nothing else.

Re: DB MN Dyno

Can you explain why? I think its a lot safer to tune on a dyno than at the track or on the street. You can also see your horse power relationship with the changes you make.

99% of tuning is drivability stuff which is not related to speeding, being stupid on street or how much horsepower your making.

Tuning under boost is easy if you get drivability dialed in first. Tuning under boost is a total pain in the ass if it is not.

#2 dyno's do NOT load a motor like you will see on the street. Not even close, they try they all fail some closer than others.

Re: DB MN Dyno

Because on a dyno is like tuning in a vacuum.
It does not take into account any of the real time driving attributes.
That is unless your driving habits are back to back 0-100 WOT blasts.

Idling, part throttle accel, decel, rolling tip in, WOT downshift and lots of others need tweaking way before WOT blasts through the entire rev band.
Once you have the driveability dialed in close enough it may help your WOT performance to dyno tune but general rule of thumb is tune it to how you are gonna drive it.

I am anxious to hear how your tuning session goes and what all you get for your money.

Most guys will do a mild street tune for pump gas, all out race gas tune and safety/emissions tune for MPG.

Re: DB MN Dyno

Can you explain to me why loading the motor on the street instead of seeing horse power gain is better? Just asking and wanting to be educated.

Re: DB MN Dyno

I have the truck set at 22 psi on a T67 turbo. Running stock injectors and alky. Running 10 to 11 AFR at WOT. If the guy cant tune me I will just see what kind of power Im making. Im guessing around 300 whp.

Re: DB MN Dyno

horsepower is only important for 1% maybe less of the time you drive it.

So your option is to tune for HP as you as saying, or tune on the street for a drivable car that is fun to drive. You don't need a screen to tell you HP #'s to tune if you know how to tune. Other things tell you just as well and better.

Jeremy's stock turbo sy never went on the dyno in his 11second trim, it did before we got that far in tuning and really it sucked. Ran like shit on dyno yet ran perfect to/from dyno on street.

Roberts truck in sweden, was on dyno here in US, 1 run was aborted and we never ran it again. He doesn't tune on dyno, doesn't even know really what HP its making.

My truck, never been on dyno, never will. I just don't like or trust them.

HP means nothing to me, if I want a # to tell people I can do some math based on ET or MPH at track or just make a # up, dyno #'s from day to day, dyno to dyno will vary anyways.

But the real answer is 99.99% of a tune is not WOT and HP means jack shit.

Re: DB MN Dyno

i know DB , but I'll side with others here first. Do you really think the dyno can load the tires and truck the same as the street will?
Some have seen a change as much as 1 afr due to different loads on the street as on the dyno. A boosted motor will be more picky to changes in load moreso than a n/a engine. I would save your money, take your time to learn it and do it yourself. Once your done with the tune and you are dead set on knowing a "horsepower" at different levels then you could bring it to a dyno for some pulls.

If you still decide to get it done there, predictions, 360hp and 500ft lbs.

Re: DB MN Dyno

Ok I think I know what you guys are saying now. Im still interested in going. Its something I have never done before and Im interested in trying it. Im also interested in seeing the power it makes. I just have a one hour sesson of pulls for $100 booked right now. Im going with a friend because hes getting his evo dyno tuned. His car does really well on the street after getting it tuned. No one ever has dyno sheets on here after they mod. I guess the numbers dont mean anything. Sure sees like a lot of cars get tuned on the dyno.

N/A drag cars that have 1 purpose the dyno can help. Other than that its bragging rights IMO.

Just trying to help you here.

Re: DB MN Dyno

What is he talking about?

Do you have any info on what are the main tables used for tuning? There are way more tables available for your truck than most cars I tune, but some are similar to the tables we see in HP Tuners for the 2000+ GM vehicles. Do you know if it uses PE for WOT or is it all in the VE tables?

We would need to setup a bigger block of time on a different day, if you wanted to do some chip tuning.
