Re: Cash for Clunkers Sy

They both run and both need body work!! Those are the only issues except some minor bs like all of our trucks have. I have spent around 25000 or more for these both together and have so many extraa parts and original parts for these its crazy. I just got tired of the BS like everyone said. This would be the easy way out for sure.. If someone would want to part these out they would get plenty for them. I just wanted them to go to someone that likes these trucks and wants to work on them like I USED to ...I own 2 businesses and have a full time job and dont want to do it anymore...you guys can call me at my pro shop at 217-306-5333 and Ill be glad to answer any questions.

Even if the paperwork's been submitted, it's not over. My dealership just got the paperwork back on our first two clunkers. Both (V6 4Runner and Aerostar) were rejected due to some government error. They asked us to resubmit them. Someone needs to find that Ty and get in contact with the sales manager.

I live in Canton, Illinois, about 2 hours from Taylorville. I've fixed a lady's alternator belt in the middle of a tornado in 1999 in Taylorville, in fact (used to work in Springfield.) Had this been even a month ago, I would have probably bought the Syclone. You won't give me discount for being a card-carrying Syty.net member, will you? How about a "preserving history" discount?

Re: Cash for Clunkers Sy

Listen fellas, Ive been a member on here for years and before that on syty.org. its not my first rodeo. I know what these trucks are worth and what it takes to keep them running good. I was making a point
about the cfc program and I can see why instead of screwing with selling shit to people who pick it apart it would be easy to take the easy way out.

My trucks are for sale for the right amouts now, I own them free and clear as of last month. I talked with my bodyshop just this morning about painting the ty and fixing the little problems. Just the cladding and wheels on this truck will bring 4500 with the 13x,xxx miles on it. I have just resolved to the fact that I will put them in storage and drive them now and then. Unless someone offers me a fair and reasonable price. I paid 11000 for my ty with 85000 miles and it was not nearly in as good as shape as it is now then. I paid 8500 for my sy with a blown motor and put 4000 into the motor to rebuild it and put new turbo on, powdercoated intake and intercooler and misc parts. I know its worth more than what I paid for it...but I will only sell it NOW for a fair price...save your energy and dont send me emails about buying it for nothing...

sorry just venting, when I needed to sell them nobody wanted them.

People are only saying/doing that becuase you said you were thinking of tradeing them in for cash for clunker only to get 9k out of them both. Just becuase it is easier means nothing you say you are going to sell them to a dealer for this much but want this much to sell them to and indiviual.

Definitely, there's no way I should even be thinking about it, but I hate terribly to see these go off to the crusher for no reason. But think of the number that have been crushed after crash testing, the number of development trucks that have met the same fate, and the number that have just worn out. I would love to do the right thing with these two trucks since there will never be anything like them again, but there's a limit to my ability to do that.

i dont know if all states are the same but here in texas, these cars are not sent to the crusher. i work for a toyota dealership and we asked the manager whats going to happen to these cars. once they are in the system we have to blow up the engine or lock them up, then they get sent to a junk yard to get parted out. they can sell all parts exept for the engine.

Re: Cash for Clunkers Sy

The bodies have to be crushed or shredded per C.A.R.S. guidelines. Anything else that the j/y deems of value, they can remove, except the engines, transmissions and axles have to be destroyed. Best bet is for the car owner to strip it first, and sell the parts for a little $$.

Re: Cash for Clunkers Sy

or how about if you are only gonna get 9k out of both of em on a new car, make a package deal for like 9k or so and make the same money and let the trucks live on and be taken care of.

these trucks are rare and the rarer they get they still don't seem to gain value, to those thinking each truck that bites the dust just made their truck go up in value, it doesn't seem to work that way. i don't think our syty's will ever really increase in value unless there is only a couple hundred left.

so why not do the best you can to save the current ones and make someone else happy with a good deal. you get the amount that the government would give but the trucks don't have to get ruined

now who seriously wants to believe this reverse MumBO JumBO make someone else happy with a good deal jargon?? nobody is in this life to just make the bare minimum, especially to give away a truck at CFC cost because they think it will make someone else happy when they would rather seen it crushed because tirekickers wont pay more than that. i'd rather blow up my syclone then crush it, why? because its my right to do what i please with it and thats the same that those ppl did. I'm not gonna just give away something I enjoy, thats just nonsense, HoG WasH I say!!! becuase someone won't pay what I believe my truck is worth

I agree with everyone else...Sure it's your right to do whatever you want with it.

But if your just going to give it up to get crushed y not just sell it to someone who would enjoy it and love to have it.

I know people out there right now that would love to have one of these trucks for 4500. Shit I'll buy one tomorrow for 4500 if someone is going to just give it up to be crush. I'm sorry my opinion is that's stupid as hell.

Maybe you need to try a little harder?

This "woe is me" pity party act is lame.

My god,how in the heck do you think that anyone will be interested in them without pictures?

Ads without pics are useless.

and I bet somebody would love to have your 1997 Cobra SVT that probably qualifies for 4500 but of course you would rather sell that for 4500 than trade it in for CFC if that was the case if you were selling for 15K and nobody wanted to buy it for even close. i dont think so, its always different when the shoe is on the other foot

Re: Cash for Clunkers Sy

Hell I know my Jimmy isn't worth anywhere near the $4500 and you don't see me rushing out to trade it in. I love driving around in a 14 year old truck with no car payments due. I'm sure most people would call me crazy, but If I ever went to sell a future SyTy that I may own I would probably sell it for slightly cheaper just to cut someone else a break on buying one. I didn't become interested in these trucks because I thought they would provide income or a safe investment. I became interested because they're unique and something to enjoy.

Re: Cash for Clunkers Sy

To Jimmy,

I never said these were for sale I was just commenting on the cfc program and I can see some peoples point. No reason to attack me. I have never been anything but a loyal supporter of these trucks and our type of people. I just havnt been very active lately because Ive been busy . Get off my case. I do own sy 679 and ty 437 and I will do whatever I want with them . And fyi I cant post pics on this site.

If you notice it says sold next to the Cobra. Just to let you know I sold it back in 03' when the market for the older ones started to drop off. I priced it almost 5K less then any of the other cars out there. It had low miles and a couple of mods. It was sold withing 2 weeks and the new owner enjoyed every bit of it and got a hell of a deal.

My STi has 140K on it, the book says it's worth 12-13. Market says it's worth 10ish. If I decide to sell it any time soon I'll let it go for 6-8K and let it live on giving the new owner a hell of a deal and put a smile on his or her face.

I believe in letting other people enjoy what I've already had fun with. If I could only get 4500 for the STi and it was going to put a smile on someone's face I would definetly sell it for 4500 to someone before I would clunker it, Shit I'd sell it to someone for 2K before I would clunker it. I also know that I could part the STi and make close to 10K or so and that would benifit fellow owners.

I think the guy who sold me my Sy broke his neck to be honest. I've only owned mine a week but I can see the amount of attention and money these require to keep them in top condition. When I picked it up you could just tell it hurt him to let it go, and he'd had it for almost 9 years. He admitted to paying $5000 (at auction no less) for it as an engineless shell in 2001. I told him about the SyTy's I saw on CFC and he was pretty shocked. I honestly didn't pay much more than the CFC trade in value for my Sy, and I assure you its in pretty darn good shape... not a rust bucket at all.

Also, I agree that RIGHT NOW these arent going up in value... but you really need to play longball. You really won't see values go up until 25-30 years out. I mean look at VW Beetles, I'm sure most of you knew someone in highschool who had one and paid like maybe $500 for it. Good luck getting a non-rust-bucket Beetle for < $4-5k these days. I'm talking pre shitty 70's Beetles (but even those are going up).

The SyTy is a truck everyone rememebers, so as our generation gets older and wealthier it will drive up the prices most likely. If you're holding for profit though, you gotta know when to sell. The market is getting softer and softer for older hotrods as the generation who was interested in them gets old/dies off/loses interest. Hemmings did a pretty interesting story on all of this a year or so back I think it was.

I try to always remember that to most people a car is... a car. We don't know the people who traded in those trucks or their motives. For all we know that truck sat around in a pole shed for two years with a knock or something like that. People make rash decisions in car dealerships...
