I'm not cutting my truck either, only thing cut is the radiator support and that was done when i got it. I have the lsx engine with a 4l60e in the truck which will start and run. I measured the tt mounts and they are different from mine. and they do position it higher! i have everything for the swap to the 80e except the converter. I have to try and fit this in and i'm hoping I can do so with my mounts without cutting the floorboard. If it comes to that i guess I'll stick with the 4l60e and put the 80e in my 91 s 10, I'll cut it if I have to.
I have a vacation week after next, I'll find out then.

Look at how many trucks have embarked on the project to convert from the 4.3 to an LS1. Then look how many of them have an LS1 that runs and drives. How many have a turbo LS1 that runs and drives?

I'm not real hip to these projects but I think the number is either ZERO or 1. That tells me something about the "ease" of converting to a turbo LS1.

well i feel like a combination of a failure and being failed on, but because my buddy happens to need and is itching to buy nearly every piece i have bought for this conversion, i believe i am bailing out.

i am not certain i will keep this truck for the rest of my life, and something so significantly modified would be unsettling to a new owner.

I am a little surprise some of these parts don't work. I think one probem is that almost no one has really completed a LS1/4L80E swap, it seems like a bunch are in process. I am going to guess that Todd (Tydriver) used a 700R4 and no one realized it it would work for a 4L80E.

Todd has a 4L80. Neither his LS1 or tranny are in the truck yet. At least he hasn't told me otherwise. I have sent him link to this thread to see if he can help.

dgoodhue is right. When Todd did the mock up of the LSX motor mounts he was planning on doing a 700R4. So that was what he used. Later he decide to use a 4l80E.

I finished up the mounts tonight and am very happy with the clearances and AN fitting access. Here are some pics. The two motor mount pics are of each side. The rest are taken laying under the truck to show the clearance around the oil pan and AN fitting access. Enjoy.

This one is looking up the side of the oil pan at the corner where is about hits the front diff. ( If that makes any scenes).

rounding my part of this thread off, i have bailed on ls1 conversion, in fact $4800 of the $5500 i spent (pan and mounts left) is all sold to one guy. All going into a 93 rx-7. I have done that swap before; We're doing forward swept truck manifolds to the turbo and using an f body pan/f body mounts on a hinson k member.

The swap wasn't ventured to be a long term project to me, its allready taken too long while not even actually performing work, just waiting on the parts. I need this truck to use/drive, have fun with. It would be more all of that with the ls1, but right now its nothing. Maybe I will leech info or parts that fit from one of you guys in the future once something finally works.

So thanks everybody for your help, If i have more time in the future maybe ill collect the stuff up again and give another whirl. Hope this helped other people anyways.

*this was an ls1 w/ 4l80e together. i hear ls1 alone should work, and 4l80w/ v6 i know works, but not ls1 and 4l80e together yet.

if i'd have known the custom pan and mounts require the engine be moved up around half an inch, i would have probably not tried.. because that real extate does NOT exsit in the tunnel with the 80e*

I would of bought these from you but I just got mine. I had to wait awhile to get them too. Sorry to hear you lost interest in the swap, but I understand.

David, not sure if I even need the pan because I am taking mine to the fabrication shop next week to begin a LS1 / 6 speed 2WD conversion but shoot me the price for mounts and pan shipped to 37042. Might not hurt to have it just in case.....

Looks like I will getting rid of my motor mount plates from TT as well.
Maybe he could fab up a new set for the 4l80/ls1 swap together.

Is the bell houseing only hiting the transmission tunnel or is it the hole trany? I am about to start makeing room for the 4l80e. Thanks Bryan.

It was just the bell housing. Well about 1-1/2" 's of it actually.

i dunno mine was all up on the top of the tunnel.

i made room for the bellhousing and then 'something else' stopped the trans from going up.

i believe the other dude cut his floor out and raised it.

Ok, thanks guys for responding. I will be trying to put the 5.3 and the 4l80e in at the same time. I have done s10 V8 swaps where you had to beat the fire wall/tunnel in abit. I have beat it in pretty good, I think I have about an inch more clearence. I am useing a 3lbs hammer, its moveing pretty easy in the bell houseing area. I will bang away at it alittle more and try for another half inch or so. I will also give it a few hits in the tunnel and hope it gives as easy. I took some before and after pics, and will be posting them (of the tunnel) soon. If the hammer does not work, I will be cuting the tunnel as well. I should know something by this weekend. Any tips you can give would be nice. Thanks Bryan

If you cut the tunnel, cut it out in one piece and move it up and fill the gap. I cut mine in a few pieces and now have to fill more than one gap :rant:
