calling all ls1 swappers, help needed! stuck!

i fought the engine drop in all day and this is what i have to show for it

some facts
turbotime ls1 frame mounts
turbotime ls1 pan
4l80e conversion

1. how in the world should i go about getting -10 fittings in here? The one on top of the diff will not be possible, so what is the solution?
319x425.aspx

2. i ground the ridge off of the trans and the firewall looking for roon any way i could make it. anyone else done a 4l80 and ls1 swap? turns out the grinding was a waste as the rest of the trans hits the tunnel at this point
425x319.aspx

3. how am i supposed to make this work? see how much lower the hole in the mount is? I can't put the engine any higher because the trans hits the tunnel. The drivers side is worse
319x425.aspx

4. i dont know how much this is impacting the install but there is contact in this area, i cannot grind the pan because it is a welded seam i would be breaking through
425x319.aspx

please dont let it just sit like this after all the investment

Sy0506 has this in his. Not sure if he used Eric's stuff though.
I don't understand why everything is so far off. Something has got to be in wrong. You may have to do better pics. Some of them are so dark, you can't tell what your looking at. Hopefully Eric can chime in.

don't suppose switching the mounts and/or pads side to side would make a difference?

I looked at PPI typhoon's and the mounts ended up being an issue. Sy0565 has the stuff in. You'll have to talk to him. http://www.syty.net/forums/showthread.php?t=56026
I said 0506 earlier, I meant this guy. His is in place. LQ style engine. Maybe there is a difference in the TYPE of engine used? Don't know. Has to be some reason his dropped in.

Sy0565 is local to me and he has ran into the same exact problems. Currently he has cut out a section of the tranny tunnel to fit trans and is in the process of making new motor mounts because of fitment issues with contact between front dif and oil pan.

Good Luck David. Looks like some fab work is going to be needed to get it right.

My friend in the city I live in, has one in his s-15 4x4. He changed the pan from a truck one to a car one( or vice versa). I know nothing about what he did, I can try get a hold of him. He bought some "street rod conversion mounts" off of a car vendor, he also changed up some pulleys, he swore lots about it and his knuckles were worn out. But damn the thing is a rocket now.

I just picked up my 4l80e from George, I have the ls1 in place witha 4l60e in it. I used my own mounts, which are cut down f body mounts, I have a tt oil pan that I was going to replace mine with to gain the oil drains and the extra oil capacity. I had the same questions about the fittings clearing the front diff. I have a set of tt motor mounts that i didn't install because i measured them and they seem to be the same dimensions as mine. i have my front diff out right now so i can't check the clearance on the fittings, mine are -8an. i had planned on pulling the engine again to clean up and paint some stuff before installing the 80e now i'm wondering if it'll fit.

that motor mount has too much webbing in it it doesn't look like the fbody mount will fit in it. the webbing in the tt mounts i have is only 3/4" from the bottom, also there is a P on the pass" side and a D on the driver side, the mounts are different .

Re: calling all ls1 swappers, help needed! stuck!

when the stuff was out you are right i did have to grind one of the mounts to get it to clear the f body clamshell; it is what i was told they are made for.

sparkwire i would love to see the pan you are considering using

i had the 4l80 in the car and working fine behind the 6; so i feel like the trans position is not the problem.... but i didn't find any info like that beforehand reguarding the swap like 'to get it in there the trans has to sit up higher' etc

I could definitely make myself some shorter mounts but that still leaves me with the oil pan problem... dont think i can make an oil pan.

I guess I was being ignorant to think buying these parts meant there would be no problems. w/ the swap :(

Re: calling all ls1 swappers, help needed! stuck!

I sent you an email with pics of the tt mounts i have, there is a link to the pics of my truck, you can see the truck pan i cut. I wanted to change to the tt pan to pick up capacity, as well as the turbo drains and the oil cooler hook up. Look for my email your junk filter probably dumped it.

Re: calling all ls1 swappers, help needed! stuck!

I've had my truck on the road, but only in my local( no plates) I want to redo my turbo headers, don't like the steering shaft clearances, need to hook up my engine oil cooler, run a/c lines, still may ditch the a/c, the truck pan I cut only held 4.5 qts. of oil, so I wanted to use the tt one. I have a vacation end of april, figured i would do the 80e swap, change the pan, and go for a tune on the dyno. EFI live COS3 2bar turbo tune on ls1 pcm, It's just started to get warm up here.
There is another guy witha 6 liter in a bravada with a 4l80 that used the tt motor mounts, "Just Dreamin" was his name, he may have some info in some of his posts

yea you should go ahead and pop the pan, mounts and headers off, ill tell you if they fit a 4l80, give you my pan, mounts and a box of tubes (to build headers again) in exchange lets do this. :D

Re: calling all ls1 swappers, help needed! stuck!

After spending all day last weekend with the motor in and out 4 times for tunnel mods, I finally said screw it. I am going to make my own motor mounts and fab up a new tunnel. At least now the trans will not be rubbing and is centered front/rear and side/side. I knew it was not going to just drop in. :) It sure it easy to tighten up the trans bolts now though. :D

Sweet.. Just don't catch anything on fire when you weld your tunnel back in.

After talking with Jeremy, I believe I will use Zus fasteners so I can get to the trans if needed later easy. Not 100% yet though. We will see when I get to fabbing it up here this weekend.

wow... my 4l80 fit, worked, and ran fine behind the v6. all i was trying to do was remove v6 and put ls1 in its place and thought the pan and mounts were designed to make that possible :(

so what pan and mounts do i really need?

The 4L80E will fit just fine with the stock 4.3 V6, If you go to a LS motor and want the turbotime mounts and modded pan to work then you will have to use a 700r4. The pan and mounts were not designed to work with the bigger 4L80E. I am making my mounts tomorrow morning. The stock tunnel may be able to be sectioned out a little instead of cutting it out and making a new one. I gave up trying :) Gets old real quick without a lift :) I am actually looking at firing it up this weekend.

I will post up tunnel pics and dimensions on my motor mounts when I make them.

Re: calling all ls1 swappers, help needed! stuck!

had a bad day today

seeing the hacked up truck (no offense) makes me sick

i am looking at all the perfectly good (11.3-11.0) v6 stuff sitting in the corner and thinking i should just put it back in so i can get back to enjoying the truck.. i am not enjoying it right now.

interestingly enough, my buddy is doing a turbo ls1 rx7 swap and is interested in buying every piece i have invested in for my swap (other than these mounts and pan)

i wouldnt mind hearing a reason why i should stick with it, or go back to what i had. I am NOT interested in cutting the truck, i would like to have it maintain its value which is something that was in question when swapping the ls1 anyways.

what do you guys think?

i am pretty sure i wont be able to stand it sitting long enough to invent my own pan and mounts IF it will even work at all without cutting the tunnel.

Re: calling all ls1 swappers, help needed! stuck!

I am a little surprise some of these parts don't work. I think one probem is that almost no one has really completed a LS1/4L80E swap, it seems like a bunch are in process. I am going to guess that Todd (Tydriver) used a 700R4 and no one realized it it would work for a 4L80E.
