I hear what you guys are saying about the 9inch. we are now leaning towards the 8.5. more cost effective. keith had 1st thought 8.5 he has one he doesnt need in an impala. harry said 9 inch for the brute strength. i didnt have a clue what to use. I think we finally agreed on the 8.5. 8,5 we can do for 1/2 the cost of the 9inch. besides the last thing this truck needs is more weight or something to take power away.

I told the wife what happened last night. she took it pretty well. however i didnt mention the video and am not about to.

Since were on the subject of not telling the wife. ONe of my Best friends had a very exciting run down the 1/4 mile engulfed in flames. He hasn't told his wife either.

However he did invest in a $600 Halon fire system for his car the very next day.

LAST Thing - The fire was so hot that he had melted glass (windshield) on the dashboard.

marty i think at the level i am at, i have been considering a halon system.

there is something about the fuel lines being next to the trans that have bothered me a long time, even with the ultrabell and the trans shield.

i can hear it now.... peeps see the halon bottle in the bed... Hey dude he's got nitrous!

the other thing i think we will most likely end up doing this winter is a parachute. I keep hear that in 2005 over 135 mph you must have a chute.

just keep in mind the 9" likes to soak up power.

Agreed. A 9" is overkill IMO but its your moolah.

An 8.5 with quality gears and posi will prolly outlive you cause the rear diff isnt taking all the power. Remember, youve got the front diff taking some of the power which gets back to the overkill thingy again.

My .02 FWIW.

can you say SPOOL!

Mike, dont forget Old florida boy, cal hartline....He's still running an 8.5 We've gone 9.80s @140+ in the impala ss with the 8.5 and big ford ends with an eaton and 800lb spring kit, I went 10.07 back in da day with my gn, 3700 lbs, stock block.

8.5 will do just fine....funny that I have an "extra" one just for ed....cause he's special....

Ed that was a wild ride. glad you made it so well in the end.

Strange have a intresting C-clip eliminating kit for roadrace and protouring.. the first C-clip kits was for dragrace only duty, made with ballbearing, the streetable onse are made with real sideload carying roll-bearings. I bought this kit for my Nova, for street use.. and the 8,5" axle is as strong as the ol´12bolt.. and again Strange make werry nice axles to..

Question. Are you using a transbreake on your truck in this "breaking" wideo??sounded as if you was using one.

An old trick when racing stock axles was to take them out clean them and paint a line on the length on the axle. then check the axle now and then and when the line was twisted a 1/4 turn you changed side and could use them until the line was straight again... then the axles was changed for a new set..

Also here in sweden when racing on a regular basic with cars using C-clip axsles its mandatory to have C-clip eliminating kits or disc breaks/calipers that will act lie a c-clip kit.

no sutch rule in us?

Seems like theese Ol´safety tips/trix is noverdays somehow forgotten about?

What about safetyloops?

one per driveshaft is a good idea..

what you see on the line. is dual line lock, solenoid to bypass rear prop valve for more holding power. gauges on brake lines say 2000+ psi brake pressure. 1 button controls line locks, sets msbc to launch boost mode, and turns on rev limiter in dfi gen7. yes it does look like a tbrake. let go of the button and the amusement ride begins.

the studdering is the rev limiter.

this brake launch setup i have mentioned many times previously on the bbs. in the video you can see just how well it works.

truck has loops ft and rear.

We should have a SAFETY FORUM/TOPIC and put our past and current experiences and solutions on there. This shoud be from from cuts and bruises, chemicals in the face, jack stand supporting, pinching fingers, fuel leaks, etc... didn't someone recently get their finger in the turbo...?

Some...and most of these safety issues (the less serious ones) often seem humorius after the fact, but the the reality is that these things can happen to any of us and in some cases could be serious or even life threating. A forum for this would make all of us think a little more on how we approach things and what is needed, as we go faster and faster.

i agree 110%!!! dad and i have talked A LOT over the past several day bout our truck and the speeds we think this thing is about to do and the 1st thing is said was in regard to ed's video. that should be a lesson to all the fast syclones PERIOD! cages, fire ext, safety nets ect..... i know our rear end is gonna be after market since watching that video. thank God ed's mishap was in the 1st 60 ft and not the last!!!!! GO ED!!!!

gentleman ,

And with that said y'all are now wondering how in the world can this guy be the same as the fabricator ed keeps talkin about...

all i can say is things get prettty humorous amongst us at times...

anyway keith stopped by my shop at 430pm.... dont know what had gotten ahold of him but at 530pm he had removed the old dif and took it away and was gone..... couple days i guess he will be back with my new 8.5 ass'y with huge huge brakes and a bling bling cap support type cover.

when keith has had some coffee and he is ready to start workin all i can say is watch your hands and feet..... just get out of the way.
:D
