Another alternative CAC pump (pics)

I LOVE 4UM SUPERSTARS
Dont know if anyone has posted about this or not but I didnt see anything when I searched it. I did some searching and found this baby on ebay. I know Ill get some heat for this but its from a 2003 Ford Lightning. This is the perfect replacement pump for a stock intercooler pump. Its almost a direct replacement. Ports are in the same location and same size. As you can see in the pics, its substantially larger, fits in the same place with minor mods, still an automotive part, also made by Bosch like the original but heres the best part. The site I got it from claims it pumps 9GPM and only draws 2 amps. Heres a link http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/_Car...diZ2865QQcmdZViewItem?_trksid=p4506.m20.l1116 I only paid $92 shipped. I was gonna do a HOW TO on this one but its been done so many times. I will just post the link to the best How to ive found on it and then put the pictures of my pump installation. I will say that to do this, you will need to buy a 3/4 heater hose with a molded 90 degree bend in it to place right at the discharge port of the pump. You will also need a fuel injector style plug. I clipped one from an old harness I had and then cut the wire off the old pump and made a pigtail connector with some new fuel injector terminals and the old fuel injector plug I had. To mount it, I just made a slot in the bottom of the original pump mount and put a larg hose clamp through it. Worked perfectly. This is pretty quiet too which was nice. This is the link to the installation for SYTY ARCHIVES

Eeek, like owning a SyTy isn't enough punishment, you have to go and put Frod parts in it.

Well said:lol: Clean install by the way!

I recenty replaced my stock pump with one I got from harbor freight, it moves 260 gallons/hr. I paid 30 bucks for it and it came with a 2yr warranty.

Re: Another alternative CAC pump (pics)

the lightning pump has actually been used as a good intercooler pump for some time, just was never considered a direct replacement. It is probably an .5-1" larger in diameter. If there are a group of you guys interested in going this route i actually get a decent deal on them. nice install btw.

Mike, What kind of price can you get? This Bosch pump may be the same pump that GM use as a Aux heater booster pump in the vans. I have a GM contact looking into it.

Re: Another alternative CAC pump (pics)

I am using the lightning pump. As far as i can tell it works great. I found a fuel injector pigtail in the Help section of a local "mom & pop" parts store. The chain stores I went to didn't have them.

Hi,

For any European syty owners this pump is the same as used in the latest Ford ST Focus. I have one to change out for my standard failed CAC pump.

Marcus

Thanks for the info! I have not gotten my pump yet, but it's now ordered. What type of injector connector do I need to get, as far as maybe a year and make of vehicle?

I'm pretty sure the connector is a Bosch EV-1 Type Fuel Injector connector. I remember seeing a thread on here that mentioned it, but now I can't find it.

Re: Another alternative CAC pump (pics)

Looking at the pics, I just thought I would mention the way I routed my lines, and why.

I ran the hose from the outlet of the pump to the lower port in the cche/lower IC, out the upper port on the cche to the higher port on the cac/upper IC, out the lower port on the cac/upper IC to the inlet of the pump.

The pump is pulling from the upper and pushing into the lower, this allows you to remove the cap while the pump is running. On the lower, coolant in the bottom and out the top, to prevent air from being trapped there. On the upper, in the top and out the bottom, to try to trap the air there.

And, buy one of these.

That link only went to a NAPA generic page. What were you trying to show?

Anyway. personally I see no reason for this. I pull, or pump, from the lower port of the lower IC to the lower port on the upper. The upper port on the upper goes to the upper on the lower. And I can take the cap off and watch the water with the pump on.

Some may not like my hose routing but what it does is allow the removal of the upper IC without draining any water. Just unbolt it and set it aside with hoses still connected. Done it this way through many engine removals. Saves the hassle of refilling the thing.
