93 TY running issue - timing ?

I know on some ECU's you can disable it by pushing the gas pedal down and hold it while you turn the key over one click... It gets disabled when the TPS shows over a certain percentage. That is how I have my firebird setup.

There actually is a switch undee the console the the PO had no idea was there that I noticed when cleaning the truck. I'm gonna be that is it. I might have pushed the button when I was cleaning.
Hopefully that's the issue.
after reading about valet mode last night it seems highly likely that is the culprit.
I will update first chance I get.

Return bumped valet switch to normal. Cheapest repair ever. Hard to beat free.

I wasn't so lucky , switch didn't fix issue. Tried both buttons ,several times. Disconnected the battery , no luck with that either.
The truck will rev to 4000 rpm in park , then does the same thing.
I'm going to pull the ecm tonight when I get home n see what chips in there , go from there.

almost like a rev limiter...does it have a MSD box with rev limiter pills on it?

The msd box isn't hooked up. It has a 6al box mounted with all the wiring , but it is not hooked up.
One of the little things leading me to believe I acquired someone else's headache.

I wonder if you are running a 3 bar map sensor instead of a stock 2 bar. It could of had a 3 bar chip and was replaced with the stock unit prior to selling...just thinking out load.

Code 42 is EST circuit. Seems to me this points to the ignition module in the distributor. You mentioned that you have a new dist. Wonder if you have a bad module. See if you can borrow a known good one to test with. Also check to see if the prom in the ecm is fully seated. Hope this helps http://www.fieros.de/en/v6help/code42.html

Re: 93 TY running issue - timing ?

I will check the prom when I get home. I could throw the old distributor in there n see what happens. The one in there now is suppose to be brand new n just replaced right before I bought it.
How do I check to see if its a 2 or 3 bar map sensor ?

My stock 2 bar has orange colored female connection and my 3 bar is black.
Disconnect the plug and check it.

What plugs are in it? Have you established that the plug wires are connected to the dist in the correct order?

You should be able to redline it in park.

I can't seem to figure out how to post pictures on this site - I been working away on this thing ever since I got home.

Re: 93 TY running issue - timing ?

Plugs are ACDelco R43TS
I traced all the plug wires and they are in the correct firing order

I rechecked the codes after disconnecting the battery today and did idle relearn - drove it probably 60 miles today as well - no more code 42

MAP sensor has been replaced before - none of the number in the link supplied were present on this MAP sensor

I pulled the ecm out - the prom is in firmly

I tried this as well with no luck.
I tried hitting the switch I found every way in every combination I could think of.
key on , off , started...
holding them down ect.. spent about an hour test driving this with no luck. At this point I am not sure if the switch I found goes to the valet mode or not , I am trying to wire chase it now.
