93 TY running issue - timing ?

That is a 2-bar map sensor.

The adapter the chip is plugged into has the capability to switch between different tones on the chip. I don't know if more than one bin(tune) were placed on the chip. But there could be. And is the tune a 2 or 3 bar tune? Hopefully it is 2-bar like your map sensor.

I circled the switch on the picture of your adapter. See how it is marked A,B,C,..... each letter could be a different tune.

Re: 93 TY running issue - timing ?

From what I googled it came up as a 2 bar map

Thx again static

I just replaced the coil , I gotthe truck up in the air - there is no catalytic convertor so I guess there isn't a need to pull the O2 sensor. It has a big circular aftermarket muffler on it and what looks like 3 inch pipe all the way back.

Fixing to go for a test run again - if the coil didn't fix it Im going to try the vacuume line off the regulator n see what it says

Vac line off FPR? Oh hell no
O2 is in DP right behind turbo

I pulled the middle line on the FPR witht it running and it did nothing to the fuel pressure

I pulled the vacuum line off while at idle and it killed the truck , started it back up with the line still off and fuel pressure was about 50 pds - thats 10 over normal.

Should I still pull the O2 even though there is not a catalytic converter that could be clogged?

So I could turn it one notch and see what happens ?

Re: 93 TY running issue - timing ?

The way your jumpers are set on the adapter(red things on the top right side of adapter). If you have the chip described it the attached link I am providing you could have up to 16 tunes.

http://support.moates.net/g3gp3-configuration-and-use/

Ok we are getting way past my comfort level here but I am noticing something:
That button that is hooked up at the bottom of the link to the bottom black plug isnt hooked up on mine, mine is also set at the #6 - so does that mean this does not have a valet mode and I can mark that off the list of possible culprits ?

If you are talking about the thing plugged into the adapter with the ribbon cable then no. That thing is for switching tunes without having to open the ECM.

Switch the knob to 5 or something else and see what happens. That should put you on another tune. If you still have the same issues. Then I would say it is not on valet because that is a tune. And you should be switching to a different one.

Thx , I will try that right now

Re: 93 TY running issue - timing ?

Ok am dyslexic - it was on 9
But anyway I took it for a test run - I tried 5 different levels
It still hits a certain rpm and just won't go past it.
Right now it was doing the exact same thing but at closer to 3500 rpms, withthe tune it liked the best the hesitation wasnt as bad and the miss was gone ( i think the coil replacement had more to do with that though )
This is very frustrating.

Don't let that truck get you upset. The fix will probably be something easy to fix. But sometimes the cause is hard to find. You just have to be patient and keep working at it, We here will keep working on trying to figure what the cause is.

Did you look at the exhaust system the full length to make sure it was not damaged? If you had the truck shipped. The pipe could have been bent restricting exhaust flow.

I got a pretty good look at it when I got under it last night looking for the catalytic converter .
All looked pretty good , clean too.

My mothers gonna come get my son today and take him to lunch and the zoo, that will give me about 4 good hours to start over from scratch and check everything out again.

The stock chip is there, it is the brown bar ( has 2 chips on it, one that looks like it has hot glue on it gets used with aftermarket chips and should be on right side where pins from adapter plug in Brown bar) plugged into your chip adapter, have you 're seated the chip on the ecm connector?

Read the whole thread.
If you have all your stock parts, I suggest you put it all back. Scan tool is must if you want to know all your sensors are within parameters. Datamaster and a cheap aldl cable will work if you have a computer.

"Sometimes you have to start all over again". Someone else's quote.

Right now you know little about your truck. Make the equation simpler. Reverse engineer.:2cents:

I haven't forgotten about you. I'm still thinking about this. You did make sure the throttle cable is able to make the lever on the throttle body open all the way.

I do not have the stock parts , at this point I wish I did.

Thx wildphil - I appreciate that.
I sure did , I read an article on here about how the cables stretch so I did check the throw on the throttle body - I had my 5 year old hop in and push the pedal - it has almost full throw I'd say 95% , the -5% wouildnt hold it back that much. But I do plan on fixing it tonight if possible.
I fixed the binding - that was the cruise control slide binding on the bracket.
Once I get the kid to bed I will have some time to work on it tonight. The weather here was bad today so the zoo trip got cancled for my son. So I haven't had anytime today to work on it.
