Re: my small project

doesnt the charge pipe have a bead welded arount the lip? My charge pipes are all welded around the ends and i have never had a problem losing pipes with t-bolt clamps. i cant see all of that being necessary :2cents:

If I remember right Tom's truck was in the 10s.. or at least when I seen it at hooters when he was up this way it had the makings of a 10 second truck :)

Re: my small project

The pipe itself has a stout lip. The problem is if pops off the TB. I was boosting and heard a pop. My guage dropped to 0 real fast. Scared the crap out of me. I thought I lost my turbo. Mike has a better coupling he is sending me. This is just temporary so I can drive my truck. If I am lucky I might see a very high 11. But I hope to be low 12's on a good tune. I was seeing 2-3* of KR before on 94 oct. With the alky I hope to get that down to 1-2*

Re: my small project

i have an a2a setup too. i have seen the problem on the tb side. im using a very heavy duty tbolt from a "big rig" shop that has at least an inch of clamping area. barely fits on the tb, but works great. mine is also the dequick dual front mounts and the charge pipe wraps behind the intake and runs down by the master cylinder through the drivers fenderwell. im sure that helps some too since its already kinda pulling into the tb, whereas yours may already have a little stress pulling away from the tb. i honestly havent removed the boot from the tb since i put that clamp on there like 2 years ago or more, its probably stuck pretty good (i hope ;) )

at least that  , we should find out soon, as long as i get my turbo back before the tracks close up. the track didnt like me last time i was there earlier this year, cost me two head gaskets at about half track, went 11.4something coasting through. hydrolocked the motor, got a tow home. i wont have that problem again with these cometics (the felpro gaskets are junk). i have done a TON of tuning in the last 6 months and the truck is unbelievable, especially compaired to the last time i was at hooters. i also upgraded to a hydroboost setup over this past week so cant wait to get the turbo back on and try that out. im looking forward to making more than 5-6 lbs at the tree without it creeping through the lights.

anyway, thats another post for another day

Re: my small project

Gheto setup holds 16lbs. I dont want to go above that till I get the alky and tune the truck. The truck feels good but right now does not feel as strong as it was before. Turbo spools real fast. Faster then stock. Very loud. Wastegate make a loud sound. Freaked out my wife the first time I came out of boost. Turbo sound drowns out all engine noise? I still have the wbo2 jumping around sometimes. Any Ideas on what might be causing that?? The A2A is doing its job. I can feel the big diference in the pipe feeding the IC compared to the outlet pipe to the TB. Big temp difference. The upper intake is cooler then with the a2a. Havent ran the DM but plan to tonight.

Re: my small project

took to the highway right now. 1st run had to let off. Had boost controler set to old turbo.. Bust shot up to 26lbs!!!! I let off real fast. Turbo highway spool is very fast compared to stock. I turned my controler all the way down and still got 18 lbs?? I guess I have to adjust the wastgate rod???? Is that longer or shorter? I can never remember. At 18lbs I went from 30mph to 90mph real fast. Has a spike of 2.3* then dropped to 0* :) :) this is without alky! IA temps were low. 75* at startup and 88* after the short run. Up to 12lbs I se no KR at all. above that I see a deg. or two but it drops off. First time I seen 16lbs of boost with 14* of advance on my truck. Brakes still squeak a bit.

Re: my small project

Whoa 26lbs!!! Good thing you let off immediately...lol...Sounds like she's running a lot better now with the new setup. Wait til you get the alky on and run 20+!! I think you turn the wastegate rod in for less boost. I'm overboosting a little right now. I have to pedal it whenever I get on it on the highway to make sure it doesn't go over 15. I have a 3 bar map and memcal here, just haven't had time to put it in.

Re: my small project

Thanks guys for all the help on my little, but expensive project. The brake squeak sounds like its fading as I drive it more. Took it out right now and did a little 5lb boost. Wholy $hit!!!! I spun all 4 for a few seconds!!!! By the time I looked down I was going 50+. I have the boost set to 15lbs till I get some alky. At 15lbs i see hardly no KR. Air temps are down. Truck feels strong. No leaks but the power steering. But thats another project along with the alt. I will have a shop do the heads in the winter, but for now I am happy. Thanks everyone again.

Re: my small project

truck ran good last night. got a few DM runs. I am running a bit rich at wot. I had a problem boost launching. When I turn the controler to 16lbs I can only boost lauch 3lbs. The controler has a knob for sharpness. would that help?? on a non boost launch it takes off good then as soon as I make full boost the truck takes off hard. Very hard. It throws me back. It feels so much stronger then before. I gota be in the 12's even without the alky. Cant wait till I can tune in the alky.

That's sweet man. I want a ride, then I want to fix mine. Haha. I've got a few things do to right now, then I have to meet a couple people at our shop for a few. He and I will probably both be free this afternoon if you're around. Xylene? Here may be a noob question, but what's that for again?
