serial timing is why its not keeping a connection, read the readme file for datamaster, helps tell you want to adjust.

to record, under the serial data screen go to file open and type in a random file name for the run and then hit open it makes this a new run then you just hit the record option.

for a run do some driveability, like crusing and light acceleration, look for knock and such., intake temps, inj duty cycles, boost control.WOT timing. then do a hard acceleration from 10-mph and go throught the gears. if you want a 1/4 mile run is fine, then you can use the 1/4 mile calculator if you record that. as long as you got WOT throught 1st2nd 3rd, that will tell whats happeneing with stuff at WOT

My Belkin F5U103 works with my XP.

Do this if you can. Borrow someone's laptop that has a serial input. Load it with DM and see if the cable works as designed. This is a big step. This way, you won't be trying to diagnoise the adapter and all along the cable might be bad.

I guess all of this is moot because you bought a Belkin.

when you speak of knock I take it thats the "knock count"? It worried me a little when it showed over 2,000 knock counts

Well there is a knock count field.. that's not what's most important to watch.. you need to watch the KR or "Spark Retard" field... also you can while your driving around go to "view" on the drop down menu and select "knock retard alarm" which will give you a bigger display of the spark retard field which makes it alot easier when to see when driving around etc..

awesome thanks, while driving around normally I had 0 spark retard. Do I need to save the file manually or does it do it automatically?

ok I think I figured this out but now I need someone to look at he dm files to tell me what I need to do. I did a recording of the truck at idle and one driving around, I didnt do any wot runs b/c my ic pipe keeps popping off at wot, then the dm stopped working (couldnt find a connection at all) so ill try it again later. I did also notice about 5-6* spark retard while driving around but I think there was a glitch b/c at that point it also said I was doing over 200mph
