Fixing the wires did not help the cause in anyway. They were cracked at the boots from heat. :screwy:

I'm watching this for an outcome.. similar issues... not building over 8 pounds.. new solenoid, thought the would fix it.. running on a 16 pound tune.. thinking I may have the solenoid in line backwards.. checking that in the morning.. my 8-10 PSI is showing on my scanmaster and my aftermarket gauge..

No, I removed that as well as the dual pillar gauge pods and donated to a member here.

I can clearly see/notice that (factory) gauge does not climb up to the higher psi. Just romped on it again and I saw tops 8 psi. It floated a small bit above the first red boost bar.

Where before I would notice it shoots up no problem to 10-12-14 psi.

If you are trying to accurately measure boost from the factory gauge, you are chasing your tail in circles. Put an aftermarket boost/vac gauge on, and save yourself alot of time.

Or hookup a scantool and measure the MAP.

Noticed the oil pressure gauge fluctuates during idle. Looks like its jumping around. Not sure if its normal. Figured I'd point it out in case anyone knows it might be a symptom.

Bounces from the 2nd mark to half during idle.

I am probably going to try and set up the datamaster and see what's going on.

Well here we go.

Looks like some oil residue inside the turbo trunk, as well as inside the compressor side of turbo. Probably needs a rebuild. Going to be tough trying to find the right stuff. Did a brief search on the kinugawa stuff and they have like 20G, 60-1.. which is all " readily available" and I am not sure how to determine If what I have is 20G 60-1, or just stock 17c.

Turbo reads on outside 49179-54000 on outer compressor housing if that means anything to anyone.

Also looks like I blew the radiator out as well.:2cents:

a bad PVC valve would also cause oil in the turbo compressor housing. The turbo compressor sucks in air from the crossover tube. Which has a hose connected to the valve covers. It could be sucking oil from the valve cover and pooling at the turbo inlet. :2cents:


start with the cheap fixes, then move up to the expensive ones

I mean I see some leaky looking areas. Mainly the back pcv valve under the intercooler the front one to the intake is rather clean. I just had everything off and looked for problems and cleaned what was dirty. It really looks like it could be a seal inside turbo as there was oil in there. Also getting a puff of smokw now ( blueish ) on start up. I cleaned the throttle body and it was a little black/sooty looking.

What are the correct pcv valves 798/799? Its hard to say what is leaking because the valves are just pressed in the rubber elbow and that could be loose fit.

If you can easily spin the turbo by hand, and it free spins for a second or two, the turbo is fine. The turbo is not your issue. You need to datalog before you do anything else.

i have a question for you all about this limited boost situation:

i read the power tune plus article for tuning for high boost and a problem plagued them due to a vac line leak at the map sensor -once fixed
ultimately
though they determined a lower intake gasket blew-

so -question
how would you test the lower intake leak?

I put a PVC cap over my compressor inlet, set my air compressor for 40psi. Hookup the air hose, and listen.

I do the same thing for exhaust leaks. hookup the cap on the tailpipe and list for leaks.

I might try this later on today, looks like a plumbing fernco fitting will work with a smaller PVC cap. I have a way smaller inlet. Exhaust is 3 inch so I'd need a larger fitting back there. I see you have utilized a large intercooler coupler from the looks.

And to Gnocide, what lower gasket went? The intake manifold/plenum or the actual intake/head? I was just thinking about which one, and it might be harder to diagnose the intake/head gasket blown. Not the head gasket. The intake manifold to cylinder heads. I remember reading something about one being blown, and there was really no way to know unless it was ripped down? DaveP was that you that discovered the actual intake manifold gasket blown on a engine you did some work on?

I'll look over my map sensor and the line as well.

it was the lower intake to head that caused their boost not to come back during tuning.

and Brandon just showed everybody how to test that above(ill add soapy water to the mix)

Just finished doing the air test. Was able to do it.

Very hard go tell if I have a leak at the throttle body, but I do hear noise/hiss from the TPS area. Is it common for the tps to leak or the spring mechanism..? Its very hard to nail down the noise. I disconnected a vac hose in 2 different locations and its not a hose off.

Air is flowing through the throttle blades and I can't tell if I have a small hole in the throttle body coupler either.

Should the system hold 40 psi? It drained out very quick.

It will bleed off. Just give it some air, spray soapy water around all if the gaskets and see if it starts bubbling.

I just soap tested and like I thought there was bubbling at the TPS sensor. I also suspected the "spring mechanism" or throttle return spring on the other side was leaky, sure enough when I really sprayed it good I got a few big bubbles.. Both sides are leaky.

I guess the throttle body is worn or something allowing that much air to escape under boost?

Thats not your issue. We cant help you if you dont log and see if you are getting knock retard or not.

I think they all leak at the throttle shaft. I don't think that is your problem either. You need a proper gauge and some sort of monitor.
