Taking the Typhoon again

Just looking for some tips on what I should do tomorrow. The last time I went, I ran 13.5 @ 99 mph with a 1.8 60' launching at 5psi. I was running about 15-16psi without Alky. I was spinning a little on the launch. I lowered my Tire pressure to 30 front and 28 rear. I am going to launch at the same boost. I am now running Alky with about 18-20psi. Trying to get the boost flatter as we speak.

Also, I left the Shifter in D last time. The RPM hit about 4,500 towards the end of the track, and was thinking if I should shift it into OD at some point down the track. Roughly at what RPM should I shift it at in 3rd gear?

Thanks,

Re: Taking the Typhoon again

play with your timing, after you get your boost to where you want it. I am running about 23* of advance right now with 15ish psi on my ty and it seems to like it, I havn't pushed it any farther yet though. I shaved alot of time off my 1/4 with just playing with my fueling tables and adding timing. Do one change at a time.

Re: Taking the Typhoon again

Sadly, I won't be able to make any changes to the Timing. It's coming to the end of the season so, I just gota see what it runs. I know it's making more power than last time for sure. Looking for a 12.9 hopefully.

Theirs always next year...

Re: Taking the Typhoon again

Rob that would be great. I will send over the Bin I'm using now, if you don't have it already. Same one you sent me. Just a little more timing so that I won't get KR. Probally won't cause I'm running more Meth mixture.

I'm guna be doing some DM runs in the morning to try out my Wastegate helper spring. So if you can get it to me by then, that would be great. I'm guna try and get the boost up in 2nd as best as I can.

Thanks,

Re: Taking the Typhoon again

so, are you running code59 and wyo is tuning it for you? if so, that is aweful nice of wyo, also shows skill. I'll tune nearly after every run at the strip when I'm getting started. I can't look at 3 DL's and go to my bin and just change it and have it work perfect the first time.

Yes, Rob is my mentor. He has been helping me since I got Code59. He has helped out a tremendous amount and I really appreciate it. He is a great guy.

He just sent me a Bin with some more Timing so I will try that in a bit.

I will let you guys know how it goes tonight!

Re: Taking the Typhoon again

It was about 55* and the track was cold. I got 3 runs in, due to all the fast Turbo cars breaking down and oil down the track:squint:. I tried Rob's new Bin he sent me with more Timing and it felt great.

1st Run: Launch at 4psi (Spinning on Launch)

60'-1.866
1/4-13.178
MPH-101.89

2nd Run: Launch at 5psi (Spinning bad on Launch)

60'-1.954
1/4-13.194
MPH-102.83

3rd Run: Launch at 3psi (Tire pressure at 25psi) Tires Chirping

60'-1.791
1/4-12.946
MPH-103.01

I'm so happy I reached my goal of a 12.9! I was spinning pretty bad on the 2 runs and my dad told me to lower the Tire pressure from 30psi to 25psi. I also launched lower. This was at 20psi most of the run.

I will have Videos up sometime tomorrow. Thanks Rob!!!

Re: Taking the Typhoon again

As you can tell, I was spinning a lot on the Launch. The track was cold, but the lowered tire pressure helped on my 12.9 pass.

Re: Taking the Typhoon again

Great job Sean! You've got another 1/10 hiding in your launch/suspension setup. We've got another 3 degrees, or so, of timing we can add. You could probably see yourself down in the 12.7's with a little massaging.... after you get an HD front propshaft ;)

Re: Taking the Typhoon again

Well I'm not really looking to max it out anymore than it is. I've done enough with the stock turbo to say I can move on. I completely ported it, 3" JSM DP. I'm running 20psi, and it was hard enough to get 20psi throughout every gear. I'm sure I can go more boost/timing, but I don't want to have to max it out completely.

I would like to move on to a nice size turbo and go fast easier. I know guys have ran faster with the stock turbos, but every truck is different. I plan on doing L35 heads this winter being that my Valve seals are bad so might as well upgrade heads. I'm rebuilding a spare block in school and guna add a upgraded cam, so I have plans and goals. When I'm ready, I'll swap engines with the L35s and Cam. I know the stock turbo won't like that combo and will be undersized.

I'm not going crazy, just a little quicker and I'm tired of the stock turbo. I even had to add a helper spring on my Wastegate which didn't seem to help much.
