They aren't that price new but they are close. I know for a fact the Sti's are in the $35000 range brand new.

Yeah, I can relate, first ride was a 69 SS, cool factor was off the charts, wish I could string up the bastard that stole it...
Replaced it years later with the TY, but cool factor was not quite as high...

For me it's not about going fast down a quarter mile strip. In fact, I have never ran my truck on a track and I don't abuse it either. I actually do like the way these trucks look and I appreciate their performance potential. They also remind me of my high school days and of times long gone by.
I own my Syclone because I always wanted to own one -with all its virtues and shortfalls. I was the kid looking through the dealership's windows at the Syclone being displayed on the showroom floor back in 1991, and the kid taking pictures of the Syclone and the Typhoon sitting side by side at the 1992 annual auto show in Miami Beach. Still have those photos in fact. :tup:

The base STi is 34,300 plus destination which puts it over 35k. Evo's are slightly more and the higher levels easily exceed $40k. At under 30k its probably a Wrx, those start at 26k and can be bought for $25k. Comparably a Syclone at 25,500 in 1991 is in the ball park of evo's and STi pricing.

At this point in my life, 95% of my ownership is about this community, regardless of how hated I am :lol:
I've made too many friends to just walk away (sorry to disappoint some of you), many of them seem like family. I've been to some of their weddings, been invited to many others but couldnt attend. We get together WITHOUT our trucks and still have a good time. I can call members up if I happen to be travelling through their town/city/state and no matter how long its been since I've seen them last, when I stop by we pick up exactly where we left off..... usually with a beer.
13 years ago when I bought my truck, I wanted it for its performance and rarity. Since that time, performance has jumped like computers and cellphones, as soon as you buy it, something bigger, better and faster is coming out. So knowing that, "keeping up with the Jones' " is practically pointless, even for Camaro and Mustang guys.
I've really grown to love the AWD platform and I have zero desire to own a Subaru after working on so many of them and I really can't think of any other reasonably priced AWD vehicle that would lend itself to so many various horsepower combinations.
The other 5% of my SyTy Pride has to do with the fact that nobody knows what a Syclone or Typhoon is. I don't think any Mustang or Camaro owner will ever know what thats like or have to educate people on exactly what they are driving, maybe thats how they want it, but personally I dont think I could drive "just another Camaro". If people don't know what our trucks are, sucks for them. It might hurt our values, maybe one day the market will wake up and prices will come around, personally I dont care, thats not why I own my truck.
My truck hasnt seen pavement in 6 or 7 years now, does it make me sad, yes. Do I miss driving it, yes.... but honestly since my truck isnt even at my house, I rarely even think about it. One day Ill get my garage finished and start working on it again, but until that time it will just wait for me (or rust away to nothing).

the modern equivalent to our trucks is the SRT Cherokee. Can't say I'd buy one though...
I'm sure I'm the only one who's going to say this, but I actually like the smallness of these trucks. I'm not 6'5", and my Ty isn't something I'd take a bunch of friends cruising in... so the extra size of the Cherokee or any current comparable vehicle is just a waste and more of an inconvenience to me.
I don't think I'd ever buy a car based on whether or not people thought it was cool. I couldn't possibly care less about what other people think. I didn't buy the Ty for them. I bought mine cause it obviously hauls ass, is rare, is small, a GM, and a sleeper. I'd rather people thought it was some uncool gang banger low rider, and had no idea what it was. I worry less about it getting ripped off. I like keeping it low key, especially with the incredibly bored cops in my town.
I'm sure I'll eventually cut loose of this POS and get something else... most likely a CTS-v. But that's not something I can justify wasting money on right now, since that's a vehicle that will only depreciate. At the least the Ty's are somewhat holding value 21 years later and may even go up, so please... keep totaling them guys! :lol:

I think it was road and track magazine that has a list in the back of all the cars they've tested in the back that has all the main spec's. If its not road and track its motor trend or one of the other newer car review mags.

They rattle and they squeak at least mine do. I have more money in my trucks that I would never get back if I sold them but they were never purchased with the intention of ever selling them. I still don't intend to sell them even after how much of a pain in the ass they can be to work on.
I like them because I feel they fit my personality. Most don't know what they are and those that do have nothing but respect for them. I also take pride in being able to own and drive something that most people wouldn't have the means or ability to work on and maintain such finicky vehicles. I find it nice to own the only two running syty's in a 150+ mile radius.
The community is one of the best. I don't know most of you personally but I did get to meet a few at Nats in Denver. Everyone there was so nice and friendly, wish we could go this year. I also keep in touch with other members thru either text or thru messaging here that I have yet to meet and one day I hope to do so.
So we drive S-10 shitboxes that were designed to be surrounded by the most delicate, most expensive parts of the the whole vehicle. I'm okay with that just as long as I don't get backed into, again.
